Hey there everyone! Figured I'd start this thread since I recently started preparing for the June 18th MCAT. For those of you who are taking the June 2nd MCAT, June 18th MCAT, or still considering one of those two dates, feel free to post here with any questions, comments, concerns, or support you have to offer!

Good luck to you all! Let's crush it.

are discussing general topics okay, or should we edit our posts?
General topics are ok but you cannot discuss specifics; the AAMC has reported several users who have included specifics on questions or in study aids.

But be careful not to say, "on the June 2016 exam, I had questions about <insert general topic>" because that will undoubtedly get reported as well.

Okay, I edited just to be safe. thanks for the heads up. i've seen people discussing specific questions from section banks to clarify why X answer was correct, so I didn't realize the rules were so strict for the study materials.

TBH, the AAMC interprets the rules more strictly than SDN so when they report we do review our agreement with them before taking action.

thank you so much for clearing that up! i was literally confused for the longest time. Wouldn't temperature be a factor into this though? Since delta H is positive and delta S is positive?

yep! At higher temperatures the reaction will be more spontaneous (due to a more negative deltaG)

Are any June 2nd'ers studying in anticipation of a retake? I kind of feel like I should so I am not completely rusty but just cannot bring myself to do it.

As far as explanations went for EK 1-4 and NS 1-4, if it was odd I just ignored it. I mainly took away the big concept/high yield material I got wrong and have been adding to this mistake notebook I have that I look over every day.

Not to say that exams ever really have a "theme," but it seems when you buy exams from a test company, each exam tends to kind of have one. EK 1-4 didn't seem to have too much overlap. Neither did NS 1-4 (IMO.) It's a good thing though! I definitely wanna see as much different potential material before the exam that I can. This is how I've kinda justified my scores not changing too dramatically. Each exam might have a different "set" of information and if you go over everything you get wrong in each one, it sets you up so that you've seen a ton of different material before the actual MCAT and maybe that is why almost everybody scores better on the real thing that does a lot of exam practice.

Thinking about it like this made me feel a little more confident.

What kind of stuff is everyone planning on writing on their scratch paper during the tutorial? I'm at the point where I know the AA's cold (writing them on my bathroom mirror seriously helped), so I'm not going to waste my time writing them out. I'm thinking about doing Lineweaver Burk plots for the different kinds of inhibitors b/c i tend to doubt myself if i don't have a reference to go off of for those. Otherwise maybe a few unit conversions and essential equations?

The first time I took it, I wrote a bunch of formulas, but I honestly don't know what to write this time! Right now I might do a little chart for AA's (NP, Basic, etc), wave spectrum with frequency and wavelength, thin lens equation doodles, etc. Inhibitors is a good idea since they are so high yield.

A little peeved that I haven't seen a single question on replication/transcription/translation specifics yet on any full lengths lol (though, haven't taken AAMC b/b section bank or scored yet)

Did the first half of the C/P section bank yesterday and got ~70%, and was feeling pretty discouraged, but I feel a lot more energized today and I've been doing the second half of C/P and have been scoring over 90% haha, certainly a lot of lucky guesses, and maybe the second half is a lot easier, but it's making me feel way more confident at least

the C/P section bank is so hard. i shouldn't be surprised that you're doing extremely well on them after your sample FL score. 😉

Is it bad that I haven't studied that much this past week? I was so ready for June 2nd, that I've mainly been reviewing every day for a few hours.

How do you check if you got what on the section bank when you're not done?

You're probably better off doing that than continuing to cram!

Do you think i'm losing information since i'm not cramming more? I know that sounds weird, but I redid the section banks and went over the unscored/scored. Do you have any advice on what else to do? I was thinking about doing one test tmmrw- either the last EK or a NS.
Also: I'm applying TMDAS and AMCAS- i've applied TMDAS already but only have done a little of the AMCAS yet. Do you think i'm really late?

You're making me blush :joyful: Seriously though, a lot of lucky guesses haha

I know your type... You say it's a lucky guess, but then if I asked you to explain, you could definitively rule out 2 answers and give a reasonable explanation for why one of the last 2 is wrong.

And finally... just got my first 130 on a B/B 30 min EK exam, on the chapter I expected to do worst nonetheless (kidney/digestive). Scores have otherwise been 123-127 -_-; EK really makes you think sometimes though, I definitely learn from their stuff. Probably going to end up taking all of their FL (another $200, seriously...)

Most in the Amcas questions thread say as long as you submit by the end of June you're still early so I'm sure you're fine. I think you'd benefit from doing another full length before test say. Just to get yourself in the swing of things again and focus for that long. Since the mcat really isn't about memorizing, I think you'll just benefit from the added time. I know material that I learned a few weeks ago more deeply than what I've just learned, and I'm sure it's the same with you even if you feel like it isn't as fresh.

Lol I guess that's the case sometimes, but definitely not always. A lot of the time I narrow it down to 2 and then take a pretty random guess, and only have 50% chance of getting it right.

That's awesome, congrats on your EK B/B score! Yeah their FL's are pretty expensive, but I liked them quite a bit (only took the first 3 though).

I think there's something to be said about cramming for P/S. There's a certain amount of critical thinking to that section, but there's definitely a lot of random terms that are good to just hear a couple times before you go into the test. I think the KA 280 page word document from Reddit is gold -- most of the information you see on test day is in there (based on what I've heard from people who used it).

Good point! I read through almost the entire TPR psych book the two days before doing the P/S section bank and that worked really well. Def need to reread it before test day.

Where can I see this word doc?

started sample test today... still working through it.

I finished C/P section 30mins left and was able to get to the answer easily... I hope the real MCAT C/P section is like this...

B/B2 30 minute exams, all done today, read the chapters 2ish weeks ago: 127/123/127/126/130/127. Guess I need to review the nervous system 😛

Hey everyone,

I have a lot of stomach problems in general and it was really worrying me about what to eat for the 30 min break for test day. At first, I wasn't going to eat at all but then I don't think I can last through the second portion without eating! So I bought some protein bars - CLIF and Lara bars. I'm only going to eat one but i bought both CLIF and Lara because in case one is nasty, I have another one to eat lol. They're high in protein and carbs and I ate one today to see if it would mess up my stomach but it didn't! And it keeps you full for quite some time! Just a tip if you were struggling to find what to take to eat on the 18th. Also, if you choose to go with protein bars, just make SURE there is not a lot of fiber content (10g or more)! THAT is a sure sign you'll have to run out to the bathroom during the second portion of the test lol.

Also, I've been struggling with stress induced insomnia these last two weeks or so. I haven't tried melatonin and was too scared to try it too close to the test date but my mom made me some chamomile tea and it worked like a charm! I wasn't groggy the next morning and I felt like I had more energy due to a good night's sleep (finally)! I think I'm going to drink it every night this week and if I need it on Friday night, I can drink it and fall asleep. I got mine at Publix in the tea/coffee section: Tazo calm chamomile tea. It's not delicious, but it's not horrifying either. It's tolerable lol. Just a tip if you were struggling with the same! 🙂

Hey when you applied to TMDSAS, did you only apply to one school and then after you get your scores back apply to the rest of the schools?

I am curious, I am submitting most likely on Thursday to AMCAS but I am also only applying to one school so by the time my MCAT comes in I should be verified. Then I can add the rest of my schools on the 19th of July and they should go straight to the school and be submitted since I was already verified. Is this a good idea?

That's exactly what I'm doing!

I am 🙁 I even signed up to take the July 9th one just in case, sucks cause it's cutting it a little close with the scores too so regardless I'll have to take it

Nope, I heard on TMDAS you can't go back and change your app. This could be wrong- but I didn't want to risk it.

How did you all do on the sample test? With score conversion, I got 505... 🙁 The main problem I think is the CARS and Psych. For C/P and B/B I got 127 on both, which I dont think is a bad thing. But CARS wasn't too bad for someone who ran out of time, but idk wth happened in psych... For those who did well on Psych/soc, how did you prepare for it? I'm planning on intense psych/soc and CARS practice until friday... and I guess I can just do section bank and qpack for C/P and B/B now.

For psych, use EK and supplement with khan. I got 48/59 on the P/S section on the sample, with most of that knowledge coming from Khan. EK gives a brief overview but Khan will get you all the random **** that AAMC throws at you.

doing the aamc FL scored... soooo pissed at myself, i wasted a ton of time on 1 stupid calculation and had to blow through the final 10 problems in 5 minutes, including a gimme problem that i could've done if i had the time. note to self:: move on rather than obsess over a single problem. overall i thought the c/p section was really fair though, which is why i'm so pissed at myself.

have you tried looking at the units of the answers to speed up your calculations? i've gotten away with getting calculation problems correct without knowing equations just from looking at the units/general dimensional analysis

yeah, that's what i normally do! said problem was a percent question and i was able to rule out 2 choices, and the remaining two just bugged me b/c i knew WHAT to do, but the math wasn't working in my head. in the end, after wasting like 4 minutes on it, i ended up with the same choice my instinct told me to pick.... :/
