Official MCW Class of 2009 Thread

Here I am, here I am! How's this for twisted: I'm so burned out on the daily grind of board studying that my post-exam plans to drop my cats off with the in-laws, have my financial aid appointment, and clean out and throw away old lecture notes and random crap from my closet sounds like a rip-roarin' good time. Yikes!

I made spam musubi, had a financial aid appt, and hung out at school for 4 hours. Then I packed and didn't really clean, which means I have to clean when I get back. =(

I'll also need to put away my lecture notes. I went out to dinner with one of my friends who just graduated, and he's like "I don't know what to do with my lecture notes from the 1st 2 years. If I throw them away, I'll feel like I'm throwing away $70,000."

I'll have absolutely no qualms with tossing out my stacks and stacks of lecture notes like the worthless piles of paper that they are. The problem is finding where I hid all of those stacks over the last two years just in case they came in handy for boards studying (they didn't).

I'm a complete packrat. We'll see how long I hold onto mine. I used biochem, pharm and path to reference in boards studying.

I heard Marty got 3 biochem, 4 devo and 2 anatomy questions. Lucky.

Who counts stuff like that? I'll be lucky to be able to tell you how many questions is on Step 1 after finishing the exam, let alone give a full breakdown by subject and body system.

Marty apparently... but would we expect any less of marty? I can tell you I had 350 questions with a whole bunch of certain subjects, not enough of some, and like 5 Guillain Barre, 2 Turners, and 2 Chagas, just because they were random questions. Marty could probably also quote the questions. 😉

I could only quote part of 1 question I started laughing in.

Glech, I should really go out and run some errands, including scoping out directions to this testing place, but I'm feeling so flippin' lazy. I was supposed to review some pharm today but my brain has the dumb (thanks Donnyfire!)

It took me 22 min from my apartment leaving at 7:50, got there at 8:12.

I took the 45 N to Capitol turned W onto Capitol, then you go for a long time. 1st left after the Brookfield Rd intersection is like Richland Pkwy (no light, just a left hand turn lane). Then you take the first right into this place with a lot of buildings, there's fedex and UPS drop boxes on the left as you enter. Go straight back to 19435 (I think or 19345) anyways, last building very back when you turn in just go straight. Then you have to go downstairs when you go into the building. (Suite L04)

My top way to waste phenomenal amounts of time:

Get Stumble Upon.

Nice, might have to check that out! I had planned to spend a good chunk of the day playing my old Nintendo 64 that I had stored away since first year but could only stomach about 20 minutes of Mario Kart--anhedonia. Thanks, NBME!

Thanks for the detailed directions! That should make things mucho easier. Does that mean that I'm going to be taking the exam in the basement? That would be a little disheartening because, you know, I always thought that I would perish before being put in the coffin.

Oh, wait. I forgot that SDN is the land of (false) Step 1 bravado! Um...disregard the previous statement and replace with: "I's goin' to get a 267 fo sho! NBME be my biznatches and whatnot! 105% on Qbank!"

Yeah basement. I already detailed the temperature there. Started with a sweatshirt, took it off at lunch. There's a fridge to keep food in too. Some people took first aid and referenced it during breaks.

I never go over to the step 1 forums, so I wouldn't know. 😉

Oh yeah, and if you get there early, you can start early too. Some people got there at 8.

Wait... maybe I got there at 8:22... that must be it. Yeah, I thought it took me 30 min. disregard the 8:12. I got there about 8:20, started at 8:40 after registration and such.

I never visited SDN while preparing for the MCAT (thank god) but let's just put it this way: If a 240+ is the cut-off mark for approximately the top 10% of test takers, then the Step 1 forum must be the hangout of choice of about 98% of those top 10% Ya dig?

IC IC. People without lives who want to show off to people they don't know? No thanks. I'll stick to allo and the MCW-class-thread-sub-forum-to-be.

Yeah, they should probably just rename that forum "Who's Got a Tape Measure?"

Oh, as a note for driving to/from the test site. Going to was always no problem (N on 45) -- I wish I had just taken North to go back to Tosa. The 45 going S was stop and go the day I went to check out where the site was and after the test.

yeah, I take 45 to and from school, and it's always stop and go Southbound in the afternoon.

Took me 15-20 minutes to get there from Normandy.

So I'm free.

Step one can suck my butt. I feel so stupid now. Oops, I mean, Funk it's an awesome good time, and you'll get every question right with bunches of time leftover.

Lots of renal, respiratory and details on my exam. A drug I'd never heard of. Some other medical lingo I'd never heard of. But then also a bunch of duh questions too. I have no idea how I did.

Time to go kill off all the brain cells I worked so hard to build up.

Congrats on being done! Enjoy your vacation from all things medical! 😉

Good luck, Dr. Funk. And congratulations, akpete!

SPARTA!!!!!!

Stringbean, I will have you know that I am sitting at your table in the library, defending it with vicious rhetoric from the legions of creepies who are attempting to encroach upon it.

Don... Pratik is sitting here studying the day before his exam. We have apparently taught them nothing.

And everyone else... being strange has its benefits. I'm writing a discussion for an H&P on necrotizing lung ca, and I'm doing it in a sonnet format. This is how we make life interesting.

15 days!

Damn, I missed wishing Funk and akpete good luck on their exams. 🙁 Well, hopefully Funk is kicking ass right now and akpete is recovering from her hangover nicely.

Check out this post from the Lounge....looks like Prowler has a stalker.

Yikes, I thought thats what My Space and Facebook were for. Although, admitingly I have a secret crush on pratik7. He can keep me warm with his "permanent sweater" anytime 😍.

Congrats on being done akpete. Can you bring your glove again this week? I still can't find mine.

Ugh... I have to go to the dentist for the first time in like 2 years. Stupid teeth that break with mushy bananas.

Only I could get injured while studying.

Edit: Update -- so I need a root canal in the broken tooth, and I have multiple cavities under previous fillings. The dentist thinks it didn't hurt because the nerve is already dead. This sucks -- especially for someone who carries floss with them. 😡

Edit again: Funk, you done yet? How was it?

Very disappointed. 😉

But good luck on your exam tomorrow.

Funk, did you survive?

I survived, but boy, talk about random questions about topics only peripherally related to anything they taught us during M1 and M2 year. You'd think they would have a vested interest in making sure you at least knew something of clinical relevance instead of this crap.

But yeah, for those who haven't taken it yet--you'll do fine! Oh, and trust me, studying the day before would have been useless for me (I only managed about an hour and a half). So enjoy the brain-rest.

Yay! Congrats on being done.

Edit: does this mean you're going to go post something in the Step 1 forum to freak people out now that you're done? That'd be entertaining.

congratulations, Funk.

I can't express how proud your parents and I are of you.

great news everyone!!! the hardcore studying music has arrived, and now I can finally start REALLY rocking out and kicking butt!

received copies of the following in the mail from Mom today:
Emerson, Lake, and Palmers albums!!!
Their self-titled album, Tarkus, and Brain Salad Surgery.

I know you're all extremely jealous.

Also got a brand new copy of Chainsuck's album "angelscore" for 2 bucks today!

Ohhhhhhhhhhh....

Actually, OB has turned out to be not bad. I can see the appeal, as it has a lot of parallels with urology. By which I mean, medical and surgical management, etc.

I think uro-gyn would be a pretty cool subspecialty.
would you see ANYTHING other than incontinence issues though?

would you see ANYTHING other than incontinence issues though?

Yeah, actually. A lot of women with endometriosis prefer uro-gyns and gyn-oncologists because they feel they're better at the detailed attention their surgery requires.

How do you suppose they partied in 1699? Although without cars that elimates the problem of drunk driving. Maybe they had laws against drunk riding. Do the horses know you are drunk?
Nah, the horse knows where you live, so it would just take you home. Me, that's why I've got a wife.

Ah, good point. My half-bro's uncle is a highly regarded gyn-onc doc. He's a new prof down at Northwestern (used to be at UWisc).

What the *(&), dude?! I'm about to get some e-ass, and you've got to mention that I've got a wifey?? Thanks a lot. I've seen you too, and frankly, I was a bit disappointed. :meanie:

figure this one out.

it's 85 degrees in my apartment courtesy of the sun beating through my shades today.

i turn on the AC.

the temperature goes up to 88.

LOL, I figured it was common knowledge on SDN that you're married. At least, any stalker worth their salt would have figured that out by now (she probably doesn't care anyway). She's probably reading this right now...:scared:

e-c. blocked!

Congrats on being done Funk! I hope you're out having some fun right now. Don't have too much fun though! I've got a fat lip as a souvenir from my night out last night. 😳

I have no idea how I acquired a stalker. I usually try to be helpful in pre-allo, but I call out the trolls pretty regularly.

JIMMY EAT WORLD'S COMING TO MILWAUKEE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Who wants to come to the concert with me?

Jimmy Eats World is a nice little band. Maybe I'll go if the financial burden isn't too high (like, say, if they were playing at the Rave where they charge $30 per ticket and then another $20 for parking, which you need to pay because the surrounding neighborhood is dicey--not that I'm complaining or anything).

that's not a dicey neighborhood. A mile north of there is a dicey neighborhood. The only time I ever pay that much for parking is in Chicago. the last five times I went to the Rave, I got paid to go. 😀

Sorry, I should have prefaced my statement about that neighborhood by saying that I come from a city where people of different races generally don't dislike each other on first sight. That being said, I get really annoyed with all of the nasty looks I get whenever I drive further east than say 40th St. on either Wisconsin or North Ave.

Hate to badmouth Milwaukee and all, but I've come to the understanding that race relations here are only marginally better than such cultural meccas as Detroit.
