Ah, I see. I'm gonna go for the ortho elective if I get my big 3 first, but may not if I don't. I'm not sure if I would want to do it without having had surgery first, even though it's not a pre-req.

Otherwise I'm looking at rads, ENT, Sports and Spine rehab (PM&R), or plastics.

I emailed my preceptor to see if it mattered if you had surgery yet, and one of my friends had his ortho elective before he did surgery last year, and he said it was fine. Ninomiya said it was no problem doing ortho before surgery. Just don't take my spot, or I'll cry, cuz I don't want to do an elective in like fam med. 😉

Now I feel dumb for desperately wanting a vacation month third year....

no, wait...i don't.

Me too! We can be triple track buddies!!!

For the record, didn't you recently say you were GLAD we weren't taking boards the same day? and now you think we can be track buddies?

i ain't no hollaback girl, beyotch.

This is different. Step I is one day that has a large impact on the rest of our lives. I would relish the chance to joke around on the wards with you, as a couple of goof-off sessions won't ruin our grades.

So high maintenance....😛

PS: I've been drinking...by myself.

that's okay. I have a date with some phenylephrine...but not the kind that goes in your nose.

we should do one of those "most likely to..." polls for our class. we can vote on people in our class that are mostly likely to do things like..

...become surgeon general
...have the most malpractice lawsuits
...have a hospital named after them
...become the next Marvin Wagner
...yell at their patients
...kill a patient out of anger
...kill another doctor out of anger
...kill hospital administration out of anger
...kill nurses out of anger
...kill custodians out of anger
...kill patient's family out of anger
...kill random bystanders out of anger
...kill them all
...cure a horrible disease

you know, things like that. it would be fun and neat!

Hmmm...I may have to think about this a little harder.

I was actually thinking the same thing for all of those.

Most likely to give a non-verbal warning shot -- Marty (sigh or throwing glasses)

i can see this happening during his surgery rotation. the doctor pimps him on something overly hard...he get's frustrated, and whips off his glasses....right into the patient's chest cavity.

HAHA. So I'm in the library sitting directly across from Marty, and I just started laughing.

He thinks it'd be embarrassing to throw his glasses in the chest cavity, then having to irrigate the patient with LOTS of Abx.

Does he ask the surgeon if he wants to "take this outside"?

Am I eligible for some of those awards? Because I'm all over it. Also "most likely to make someone 'spill mayo' on themselves at the sight of her". That's a good one. 😛

Tracks schmacks. Doesn't matter... you have to do everything anyway. Electives are good times, although if I hadn't had my Vac/E month in JULY (!!) I would have probably taken it given the way the year has gone. Ah well, hindsight and all.

Just giving a shout-out to all the OGs that are getting ready to bitchslap our first exam of the new semester.

I reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally shouldn't have procrastinated so much this block. Pharm is going to have a phield day on my ass. That is all.

I didn't procrastinate on pharm, and I'm still gonna eat it.

I don't even know what those drugs are that are mentioned on the 2011 thread. I really need to study.

I'm such a procrastinator. But I'm getting better. As of right now, I have at least read/listened to ~70% of the pharm lectures. That's probably why I don't know the drugs...haven't gotten there yet.

If this was last year, I'd be on lecture #1.

So I just finished listening to the Serotonin lecture. And heard the "Can you tell us what emesis is?" 😱 I visibly cringed and felt embarrassed for her, even though I'm listening to it 5 days later in my apartment.

Was it Kelly?

So you waited until the day before the exam to study physiology?

What is Kelly?

In my omnipotent mercy I decided to omit that portion of the lecture from the co-op. No one can say I'm all bad.

BTW, nice coop homestudy ninja.

Indo, when I say I procrastinate, I'm not kidding. It's the norm for me to read a few lectures for the first time the day before the exam. I did exaggerate a bit with the Lecture #1 thing. I wouldn't recommend it though. Loss of sleep, and as my mom would say, I'm not working up to my potential.

The boards will be another story though...

How long are you planning to study for Step I?

I don't have the memory to study something once like that. I suppose some things I get the first time around but I'm not the type of student who has much wiggle room when it comes to med schoo.

My dog is weird.

She's been sitting and staring at me for the past half-hour. I think she wants me to go to bed. I tried to toss her in bed with Jenny, since she usually starts the night off in bed with her, anyway, but she jumped off and followed me out of the room.

Now I have her little doggy bed sitting on a chair next to me with her in it, but she's still just staring at me with those big puppy eyes. What a strange dog.

She probably has to poo. haha. Or else there is an earthquake coming.

That's what I thought at first!

Or else there is an earthquake coming.

Either that, or I have an epileptic seizure comi...a;dokifjwae;oifjnaew;ovnaerglkn.

Breaking news: I am seriously screwed for this pharm exam. Bad idea to finish making notecards of all the drugs at 9 pm.

Who's pulling an all-nighter?!!! *raises both hands*

Like I told someone else earlier tonight, these all-nighters are just good practice for the sleepless nights of residency.

Unless I go into path. 40hrs/week would be awesome.

Actually, this is the first all-nighter I've done this year. If the test was multiple choice, I would've gone to bed hours ago. Oh well.

My dog will do that too. It usually means she wants to play fetch. But not only will she just sit and stare at me, but she'll also try to use her paws like hands to pull me away from the table. So if you ever see scratch marks on my arms...that's why.

I've decided to go the opposite route. I'm not screwed. In fact, I'm quite confident that I will come out of this exam with a 102%. Indeed, I will make gunners tremble at the mention of my prolific feat, and the masses cry out for more of my teachings on the definition of emesis.

I'm like Neo and Pharm is like my Matrix. Only, you know, not as hokey. And the sequels will actually be decipherable.

I lied--I'm not a Pharmacological Neo. I'm just a little man with a pencil, a borrowed calculator, and a semi-complete photographic memory of several homemade drug tables.

Listening to Nine Inch Nails before an intimidating test was a bad idea.

How far off can you be on the spelling? I think I started to make up drugs towards the end. J/K.

Instead of Edrophonium, I put Ephodolium.

I definitely had some novel pharmaceuticals written on my test as well. I think I put something to the effect of "Echothioline" when I meant "Echothiophate." I'm actually surprised I was even that close. Unfortunately, I think they're pretty strict about the spelling for bolded drugs. Maybe we'll get a little partial credit...I heard they're overall pretty lenient with the grading based on content, if not the spelling.

I definitely pulled the answer for the 5-HT3 antagonist out of my ass, too. I knew that drug was near the end of my notecards so I just randomly picked Ondansetron and guessed at the spelling. w00t!

For what its worth...i would give you credit 😀

Is there something special about tracks 14, 15, 16? Did I miss something?

i thinkwe all want a short surgery rotation, but not to have medicine first. plus the whole "big three first" thing. that and everyone heard me say it and naturally they wanna be like me. you too, right?

So how was the pharm exam?

well, if I miss out on my choices 1 and 2, then I'm right there with ya. I chose medicine first, well, because I hate it.

Indo, pharm sucks. Well, actually, I like pharm, and it was one of my favorite classes in undergrad. And the drug stuff isn't so bad once you remember how to spell them. But Hillard has a way of asking the kinetics/dynamics stuff where I have to stop, scratch my head, and try to figure out what the hell she's trying to ask about. I think pharm can only go up from here, besides the final. If you can memorize, you can learn pharm.

I searched this thread for "phys" to see what you all wrote about the first exam and I noticed that the M2s actually held discussions on Angel. Did they put a stop to that after last year? We don't do that.

Do you all think ALA synthase when you see the word alas?

haaaay, committed step for heme synthesis. it's like, 5-aminolevulinate, right?

anyways, I haven't been on campus since Monday.......anything happening? I'll be there for the protest....

The discussion forum on Angel is the Phys department's way of having you challenge exam questions. It will be great fun for you to see how petty and gunnerish some of your classmates are. Make sure to post copies of the best quotes on here for us!

Nothing is happening. Not going to class is turning out to be a great idea for this term but I'll have to see how I do on the first exams before I am truly sold on not going to class.

Okay. If we get anything good I'll put it on here. Haha. I can't wait.

It's funny to read some posts, but I actually love the method of challenging questions, because you get open access to all the other students' challenges. Being able to see everyone's thoughts about the bad questions on the test lends itself much better to open discourse about the test material. It's much better than the other departments where you don't get to find out that everyone in the entire class thought question 17 was flawed, or whatever. The pathology dept. adopted the same discussion forum method after 1st block this year, and I think it's great.
