Official MCW Class of 2009 Thread

from what you're saying I'm guessing that you have what's called a coaxial inversion, which weakens the signal. I would take a look at the tuning band array in your building's cable box and check for any crossed circuit loops.

Come here. Now. I'll put pants on.

Boy, the whole idea of a latenight "cable" call just brings all sorts of wrong to mind. Shame on you both.

Oooooh... new rumors. Splat and Marty and Splat and Xandie.

Oooh...you know, I heard Splat was up all night last night. I wonder if this had anything to do with it?

So I was labeling some cd's with what I thought was a regular sharpie. When I looked at it, what did it say? Not "Sharpie"... no, it said "Lovenox (enoxaparin sodium injection)." That goes along with my Zetia pen that I would've used during that test had I wanted to use a pen -- it's a great quality pen. Diflucan makes awesome pens though.

Now instead of living in total oblivion and thinking it's cool I have "doctor" pens, I know what the stupid drugs do. *hmph*

That reminds me...

LOL! I almost watched that last night instead of Indiana Jones. Except if I had started Spinal Tap, it probably would've turned into a Christopher Guest mockumentary marathon.

I was trying to get my wife to give me some money yesterday to buy frivolous DVDs and I tried singing this song to end the debate. Turns out, it worked about as well for me as it did for Spinal Tap.

i totally slept like a freaking rock last night. it was great. I was having a dream of some sorts when the alarm went off, and I woke up having no idea where I was and what was going on. still a little groggy but I feel a bit more well rested now.

i seriously think for sure this time that I'm never pulling an all nighter ever again.

hold the phone there buddy....
are you trying to say that when I get married, I'm going to have to beg my wife to let me buy things?????????

I just fell in love with Melissa Etheridge last night, so I guess I better go buy that CD now before i'm married.

I always thought the wife was supposed to ask the husband for money because the husband's the breadwinner, and the wife stays at home with the kids and doesn't work. 😕

I knew I heard bad porn music when I opened this thread!

xandie: My cable is out. Maybe you should check my box.

sex scene--1 hour 33 minutes

xandie: Now I'm going to get a cigarette out of my medicine cabinet.

I live a good ten blocks from those two... my medicine cabinet smells decidedly of coconut oil...

Spying/driving to my apartment via 114th street. 😛

I hope the snow starts melting soon. My dog's paws freeze so we haven't been for a walk for a long time. I was gonna buy her some booties, but never did. Oops.

So you're saying that even though I think I never see you, in fact, you've always been right there. 🙂

So I made a to do list yesterday.

Today, I'm gonna try to accomplish something on that list.

Wish me luck. 🙂

Seeing my dog wear booties for the first time made me laugh harder than I have in a long time. She didn't know what the hell to do with them on, and instead of walking, she tried to jump everywhere she went.

I'm around... in fact, I was at school already once today and I have a meeting with my advisor at 3, so I'll be back! Twice in one day... that's like a record.

performing experiments on your dog AND laughing at it. you sick freak. you make me sick. i want to vomit.

i'm a bit behind on my to-do list for today but i'm getting on it! i'm so proud of myself.

I'm cleaning my bathroom for the first time in a month (thank god for 2 bathroom apartments). Really quite terrifying in there.

man. all I did today so far was 4 hours of path lectures, pharm preview, and about 25 kaplan practice tests. and i bought a melissa etheridge CD.

i'm not 100% serious about something in there.

So you didn't buy the CD?

well, I did. and all I can say is that it's ironic I just watched Chasing Amy last night, because I too have found myself in love with a lesbian.

Who hasn't? Of course, my infatuations have always been with the pretend, insanely hot lesbians (like in Chasing Amy). Probably for the best.

the funny thing is I couldn't figure out where I had seen her before...she looked so dang familiar. turns out she was in a cheap crummy old video game called "Emergency Room 2" i used to play years ago
she played this hot nurse that said things like "great job, doctor!! maybe you can give me some tips later!" (very coyly, i will add) then spun around and walked away in her cute little nurses' dress.

I think the only other movies I remember her from were other Kevin Smith flicks. Nothing like playing on the old "hot nurse" stereotype though. Great career move.

if i had a dollar for every time I correctly solved the multiple choice questions that game presented regarding the patient's chief complaint and she then verbally teased me along...i woudl only have to take out half the student loans.

She was on an awesome show in the 90s called "Second Noah"... (her name is Joey Lauren Adams, for future reference).

oh...sorry. AKPete has the smokey medicine cabinet and you have the box?

What box? (I'm confused).

Hey Don... tell me not to worry about the pre-medicine rotation shelf.

Let's just say...half the people in our class have a box.

You know this whole "encouraging diversity within med school classes" thing is just getting out of hand when a whole 50% of the first-year class is made up of homeless people. How is that diverse?!

Well if we're talking about that, Ashers and AKPete have boxes too. 😛

Don''t be worried. Seriously.

It's not graded (which should say it all), and no matter how you do, you get a letter that says "if you recieved such and such a grade on step 1, or below this % on the pre-test, you need to study, or you are in danger of failing the shelf exam". 🙄

I know this is more than you asked, but my advice for the medicine rotation:
MKSAP is essential, then it's your choice of review book. I hated/didn't read Kochar, which they tell you is required, and did fine on the shelf anyway (I read blueprints instead). For the EKG portion, the test is open note/open book, but I liked Sebastian's lectures (because he's hilarious) and I think reading the Dubin's EKG book they give you is worthwile, because you'll actually be able to read and understand a 12-lead EKG after you read it.
For the wards, the book "Pocket Medicine" by Marc Sabatine is great for day to day patient management, and will make you look like a star to your attending.

When people say they don't like dane cook or that dane cook isn't funny it is because they used to like him but now everybody likes him and now they don't feel like a unique snowflake any longer.

edit. And these are the same people who grit their teeth and say that the White Stripes are an excellent band.
edit. and they also say things about David Bowie.

I don't think he's all that funny, but he's not unfunny.😉

And I don't really care much for the White Stripes, but Bowie rules.

Coffee and Cigarettes-- Have you seen this movie?
Favorite scene

You might also recognize one guy from that movie Derailed.

"Don't swallow, Bill Murray"

Okay, so here's my thing: can I borrow any/all of those books from you? (I'm so incredibly poor right now, it's not even funny). I'm actually going to go buy Pocket Medicine, probably, since those are fantastic for everything and I'll probably keep it in my pocket through residency, since I'm not doing a "medicine" specialty (thank God). Incidentally, I'm at the VA for March and outpatient in April.

And I'm not at school, I'm home preparing divorce documents for my lawyer. What a way to spend a day off. 👍 👍
