Official MCW Class of 2009 Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I went to the farmer's market at Cathedral square today and there were two guys selling buffalo... mm mm tasty.

The prairie has wifi. WHEEEE!!!

You can't get cable and cable internet in the country in WI either. My house, for example. We live 0.5 mile outta town, but no cable. It costs too much money for the cable company to put in cable lines all those miles and miles and miles of countryside for only like 10-20 houses per sq mile.

meant to post this Friday, but SDN was being a brat.

Guess where Splat will be for his July rotation??

Go ahead, guess!!

Too late!!

Children's ER!! Children's ER!!!

SDN's been really strange on my computer recently.

Yay for you getting kid's ER. Does that mean you'll have plenty of time to go blaze trails and have pool parties before I have to start ob/gyn?

you know it!! almost every other day off, seems like.

During surgery on Friday... Xandie's pager goes off. The circulator walks over to me and says "Xandie, I think this is yours. Who's Splat?"

Congratulations, little one. Glad to see you happy.

Let's all give a siiiiiiiigh of blessing to happycows today!

Don't worry. By the end of July, EVERYONE at the area hospitals will know the name "Splat."

Who's having a fun vacation? Ashers sure is! I've got a root canal scheduled for today!!!!1!!!!111!!!! 😡

My parents and I were supposed to go out for dinner tonight. Maybe we'll go out for ice cream instead.

Are you at CHW ER for an elective, Splat? I can't remember what you had first.

Has anyone done the online course for the EPIC system yet? I started to work through it this morning, and it's PAINFUL.

I was at school for my Fin. Aid meeting this morning (sorry I didn't stop by, Splat), and I saw CPMG hanging around the library. I thought he told me his MCAT was on the 15th. Anyone know what he's still doing around school? Did he pull a Splat and postpone the date?

I just got that wart on my finger re-frozen today (for the 3rd time now). Overall it's not a bad procedure, but it hurts like a bitch for about 3 hours afterwards. I'll probably treat myself to ice cream later for enduring the pain.

Otherwise I've been having fun. Ed Oberle's wedding in Columbus was a good time this past weekend, although we spent almost as much time in the car driving there and back as we did in OH.

Jenny and I made our first attempt at homebrewing beer last week. It'll be a couple of weeks before we have the finished product, but it's an interesting process so far.

Good luck HappyCows!!

So my vacation is super boring so far. Should probably start packing up stuff I don't use on a regular basis. Or do that pre-orientation homework we have. But it's so easy to not do anything.

Plus, I've been having trouble with my sleeping again. Didn't fall asleep last night until 5am. Slept like crap, but still slept until 2pm!! How the heck do I get my sleeping back on track? Pull an all-nighter so I can go to bed early the next day?

Thought about doing mini-golf today with Kapila, but it looks like rain is coming this way.

Glad Ed's wedding was fun!! Charlie got married this last weekend too (in Minneapolis).

Have fun with the root canal Ashleigh. I've been needing my wisdom teeth out for a couple years now. I'll get it done someday...

Still no internal medicine schedule... 👎

Is the homework painful as in hard or boring? I've found other stuff to do other than that. Like get my stress level high while learning to drive stick shift.

Maybe he's keeping Splat company.

Crazy... so many people getting married.

Painfully boring, not hard. You can go through the slides fast, but you have to read the words on the screen while someone is saying them, which can be hard to do sometimes. Luckily, all my years of annoying my wife by answering the Jeopardy questions before Trebek gets done reading them are paying off.

Here's a creepy photo from the "Blastoff with Epic" presentation:

I thought it would make a good SDN avatar if someone wants to use it. He looks like he's talking to someone calling from a banana phone.

Oh geez. Not only will I have dreams about the questions I was back and forth on from boards, I'll have nightmares with creepy homework people.

I'm betting that will soon be photoshopped (not by me -- I can't work photoshop).

I got CHW ER for my peds outpatient month. Lots of 5pm to midnight shifts....totally in my element. I can sleep in!

Have a fun month, and make strong impressions. It could serve you well.

why do people make posts like this?

Side note: By the way guys, med school is really not bad. I've found it much easier than engineering, and I'm near the top of my class with ~240 on the boards (<<30 MCAT by the way). Just have a good work ethic, a good attitude, and sense of humor and you'll get through it just fine. As for getting accepted, keep that GPA up and take Kaplan in a major city where the teachers have been doing it for awhile.

Like I told him, his advice doesn't carry a whole lot of weight, since he's obviously significantly above average. That's kind of like Tiger Woods saying it's really not that hard to hit a golf ball onto a tiny little green surrounded by water 300 yards away in a gale force wind.

I'll bring the brattiest kids from central Milwaukee to you then, because I just scheduled my first shift back on the streets, y0.

i bet you look really cute in your little uniform on the ambulance.

hhhmmmm... something to consider. Since I'm obviously not much of a morning person. Though I may be in the morning groove by then. Peds in Nov/Dec.

Question: Do our step 1 scores get sent directly to us, or do they take a pit-stop at school?

Thanks!

Congrats on being done with step 1 HappyCows!! Well, you should be done within the hour if you didn't start early at least.

Funk said something about them getting sent to the school electronically and to us via snail mail, but I really wouldn't know. I just wanted to comment on something.

My lower right jaw is numb. But I got vicodin! 😀

does anyone know what our schedule for TTC is? I figure it's written down somewhere but I'm also sure I lost that, so I have no clue when to be where (but I do know where to park thanks to the e-mail).

DONE!!!!

The best part of the test was when the guy next to me let out a huge fart! I had to keep myself from laughing out loud. It dulled the pain of taking the test at least.

Directly to you. The school gets them, but they don't give them to you (as far as I know).

TTC has been added to ANGEL. If you really want.

Another question: What books do you recommend for medicine rotation? I've been browsing the IM book thread, but there are just so many books and so many opinions. What works well for our school? We have a shelf for IM right?

HappyCows, if you wanna go out for a celebratory drink, just let me know.

Oh wow... and they have a detailed schedule in the calendar thingy. All I knew before was I had CPR certification the first day.

Dang it... couldn't they give us Kerrigan?

Say, about that CPR stuff... did you guys do American Heart M1 year, and so it's just a refresher dealy? I had cpr already, so didn't do it here. It was nice cuz the last time I got mine renewed, it was from one of the guys at my hometime hospital. I just had to do the written test, he signed me off, and I was on my way. So convenient.

If you guys did red cross, will I have to do mine on my own?

Red Cross... technically our certifications are only good for a year (so we weren't certified last year). You'll have your time scheduled during TTC I bet.

So we have to completely redo the whole damn thing? Can you opt out? Not that big of a deal, but what a pain in the butt. I like American Heart cuz it lasts 2 years. Mine expires at the end of July.

So we were all certified 1st year, but then during 2nd year, when we had much more clinical contact, most of our class was no longer CPR certified? Yeah, that makes sense.

i'm getting mine through american heart on my own time before TTC...I will not go through the same training again for a different agency's card when the AHA is generally the authority on this stuff anyway. they accepted my AHA card at the beginning of M1 and they will do so again.
