Welcome future classmates! Looking forward to trailblazing the first of many outstanding classes to be graduated at MWU's College of Dental Medicine! Valley of the Sun...here we come!
Congratulations guys! I'm on the alternate list. Hopefully I will be joining all of you!
Plakmama- I still laugh when I remember the guy at Louisville getting in your face when you told him about the high cost of tuition. good memoriesGood luck to everyone on the alternate list. You guys sound sincerely enthusiastic about the MWU program and would definitely make a great addition to our incoming class.
Word. I think it'd be cool to live in Glendale.
OH NO........
plakmama, you didn't just change your avatar to THAT. We're going to have a problem.
Hehe. You guys are brutal!! Haven't I suffered enough this postseason?
In light of all this tough love, I have no choice but to sport my green packer scrubs for the next four years - in appreciation, haha
Stay Strong!!![]()
Oh no! CompositeA2, you're not a Cheesehead too, are you??
didn't see that yet, thanks for sharing with us
curriculum is looking great from what I see. Can't wait to start.
Orientation starts on the 27th of August, how early are you guys planning on moving to Glendale?
I don't know Chipab, I was thinking 20th, do you think thats too early or too late?
All right, don't think I'm too big of a dork for doing this. I got to searching the internet and the MWU website for a good MWU logo and couldn't really find one in good quality (I just wanted one for my PC desktop). And, I don't think that the CDM has come up with one of their own yet. SO, I took the liberty of pulling the MWU logo off of an online pamphlet and modifying it a bit. I had to decrease resolution in order to attach it on SDN, but you'll get the idea. What do you think?
If somebody would like me to do one for you in a particular color, just PM me & I could send it to your personal email. Or you could tell me to find something better to do with my time, like maybe study for my upcoming Biochem test?
Thank you Kdawg for sharing this information🙂

Also, does anyone know about the laptop issue? I'm planning on getting a new laptop soon, and I know some schools require us getting a specific laptop.
i know this is dorky to ask, but do you think it's required to take notes with a laptop? I've never done that before, and I bet changing my habits at the start of next year is not the greatest idea. let me know what you think
I'm not exactly sure about this, so don't quote me. But I have a brother who is in MWU's Podiatric program and they are not required to have a laptop at all, let alone a specific kind. As aseebing mentioned, my brother also likes it this way because he's always been used to studying by paper method. I think that I will be the same way. In fact, I've spoken with dental students at schools that require laptops and some of them just end up printing off all of their notes anyways. I know that I hate staring and reading a computer screen for any kind of extended period of time, as evidenced by my DAT scores!
Good question, though. I'd like to know the answer for sure.
Although I have a hard time taking you seriously with that patriots avatar, kdawg, you brink up a good point. However i don't remember anything in the interview where the mentioned a laptop. And if you remember the DVD they gave no one in that was using a laptop in class. As for the teeth thing I read in an earlier post, I hope they tell us soon!!!
I would hate to have to collect those things last minute. If pressed I will pull my own and wear a full denture, thats my plan. All you guys are welcome to adopt it as your own.😀
After browsing the " Which Schools do you have to collect teeth for? " does anyone know if MWU will require us to collect teeth? I hope they arn't going to inform us in July or something.

COngratulate to all of you !
Is there anyone who is accepted into MWU but will not have completed all course requires of MWU before the class started this Aug?
I will be interviewed very soon, however, I will not have done Microbiology Lab & Anatomy with Lab before the class started. I am worry if the fact will hurt my chance to get in the school.

Hello future classmates!
I am currently a MWU student in the MBS program and I thought I would let you know that we do not need laptops. If dental is like all the other programs, we will have mailboxes that are only for mail from our profs. Most every prof prints our notes off and puts them in our mailboxes (or hands them out in class) so we will have a packet of notes for every lecture or unit. Our notes are also posted on Blackboard for each class. The mail room is in the library building. We also receive our grade sheets that are printed off from scantrons (after they are posted on our student portal/website...the same site you went to to pay your deposit). If you don't have a laptop, that is fine. No one brings them to class. Once they finish the 2nd floor in the library, there are suppose to be more computers for student use. I don't know about the teeth so I will try to find that out.
I e-mailed Heather Kim about this issue last week, but I haven't heard back from her yet. I'll post her answer as soon as I get one.
I e-mailed Dr. S on this issue and haven't heard back from him yet either. I know those guys are busy. I doubt that they will require a specific laptop because most of MWU uses PCs and Dr. S is a Mac user, so I'm sure everything will be compatible. But, since all our textbooks will be on DVD, I'm sure there will be some minimum system requirements. When I hear something I'll post it.
Patriots? I thought that was the Denver Broncos!
Yeah your right, I am sorry I was watching a Tom Brady special on TV last night while I was checking out SDN and I guess the patriots seeped into my brain and I got confused. DAME YOU BRADY!!
It is a denver broncos avatar.

I didn't know how many of you look at the Dental Student forum, so I brought a recent post by a current DO student at MWU in here for our class to read. Pretty interesting. It was in the thread: Midwestern...advice please
another post from the Dental forum. all this talk about MWU, its getting me quite excited to start.
I hope we will have a good class. From the looks of it, I think everyone is excited. I know I am!!
I can't wait to meet Dr. Simonsen again.

As a graduate from the first class at ASDOH, I can agree with what has already been posted as far.
If you are a laid back person and things like constantly changing schedules and policies, uncertainty in grading, not having any upper classmen to show you the ropes won't bother you, you should be fine. Going in with a "go with the flow" attitude will take many points of your blood pressure.
Huge plusses, you will get more one on one attention from the faculty than any other class. The school will do whatever they can to help you succeed.
Unless you are caught doing coke off of a typodont mannequin or something, you are pretty much gauranteed you'll graduate.
Dr. Simonsen is good guy, and you will probably get to know him better than most other students at any other school would get to know their dean.
Hope this helps, Phoenix is a great town and you will have a good four years in the Valley.
medschoolsoon :
I'm a first year D.O. student at Midwestern and am on the committee overseeing our class size increase and addition of the dental school.
I wanted to say that I'm sure there will be some kinks, like with any program. However, when it comes to faculty, there is no equal. In all of my higher education I have not experinced anything close. I have had faculty meet with me on the weekends, at night and into their lunch breaks to help me out. I know they have done the same for other students. In this regard, a huge plus.
Second, you won't be in classes with med students or podiatry. We are large enough as is and are not going to make it any bigger. So you will be in class with only your class. Another plus as our class feels big.
The buildings will all be ready and are going up at a ridiculous rate. There will be enough space, cadavers, faculty, etc. to meet all your needs. On the other side, there are still issues being worked out. There will be a new "testing center" for all classes and it seems they are having a difficult time getting this going (don't know much else). Again, I'm sure there will be logistics to be smoothed out as well. Tuition I'm sure is high as it is high for us (you can thank us if/when you get here for paying for it).
Finally, the weather, women, and fun can't be beat (not that you'll have any time).
Best of luck to you in your decision and feel free to ask me any other questions.
