spending money is part of this game. I just think having gap in education dont seem right to schools and thats probably the reason i didnt get in this year. Everything else was fine little below average GPA but i saw people with lower stats than mine got in. I cant figure out what to do next.

How many schools did you apply to and interview at? With your DAT scores it'd be an outrage if you don't get in this year.

Don't over think it. If you did well in undergrad and well on the DAT, you have proved your intellectual aptitude. You're not going to get dumber, you just may have to dust away some cob webs on your study methods

Yeah, I am really worried too. I also graduated in Aug 2008, but so far I only have 1 interview coming up in Dec. I think it might be because I applied fairly late, in July 7/24 and then I didn't take my DAT until mid-August.

I also noticed I forgot to put my # of shadowing hours on my application. >.<

I was thinking of taking a dental assisting course to "make use" of my time, but that's extra $$ wasted because chances are I won't even get to do DA since the course is a year long program.

10
1 interview also one school say im in queue to be scheduled for an interview dont know when.
ASDOH rejected
yeah i thought with good improvement on DAT my chances will increases increase.

Guys, I just got into Penn. Hang in there, with the great stats that many of you have you all should have a good shot at getting in somewhere.

Seems like your grammar/writing is a little off. Was your personal statement good? I can't think of anything else that could have earned you only 1 interview from 10 schools with a DAT score like that.

Congratulations!! You are hereby honorably discharged from this thread. Good luck out there!

oops i didn't see what i wrote..lol. No, my grammer is not that bad. Personal statement was not the best but then i had it proof read and it was good enough.

which schools have you applied to? I'm coming from Texas too and similar GPA with lower DAT score than you.
But I applied to 18 schools (including 3 texas) and i did my research on schools before applying which I think was very important also. I looked at GPA/DAT range, how many OOS accepted vs. IS accepted, how many Asians are being accepted plus how many Asian males are being accepted since I'm an Asian male (i think race/ethnicity also play big part), and previous acceptances from certain schools/states (also tried to find schools with my school alumni as their faculty members, which I ended up having interview at Western with - b/c i think they try to match you during your interview with faculty that will understand you better).
I am pretty sure you'll get more interviews once all this settles down and you will land a spot somewhere but if you have any questions about applying to OOS from Texas (which is little bit unusual since most people usually just apply to Texas schools) feel free to let me know.

i applied to total 10 school including 3 texas. I mainly focused on schools with higher acceptance for OOS with higher number of seats to offer.

so I have already had 7 interviews, although two of the interviews were texas schools and I am out of state, so that really leaves 4 interviews going for me. I need some advice with coping. My stomach is in knots all day long waiting for a phone call or email. It took me about 3 hours to fall asleep last night worrying about what the heck I am going to do with my life. This is absolute torture!!! so any advice on how to cope with this, would be appreciated.
just a side note, I called University of Pittsburgh and they said that I wasn't on the accepted list, or the rejected list, or the waitlist. Rose, the bearer of admissions news, told me that I was like one point away from being on the first round of acceptances. Does anyone know what this means and is it possible that I could get accepted there? Ill keep praying for ya'll and maybe tomorrow I will start making small animal sacrifices to inspire the help of the gods. 😱

at least you guys have had interviews! i'm in the late submitter club and haven't had any yet 🙁 it wasn't until yesterday when it really hit me that i may have to wait another year. i'm already in my 5th year of undergrad completing a double degree, and i don't know what i'd do with a year gap! i'm so scared i'll have to apply again..and i don't know what i'd do differently. when people tell me, don't worry you'll get in eventually (like in the years to come), that doesn't make me feel better! sad

i too, have not been accepted yet...🙁.... ive been waitlisted for two schools- had interviews at 4 schools (my 4th was on december 1st)

this is so frustrating....just waiting....and waiting....and waiting.....😕

Just canceled my interviews at UDetroit and Minnesota. Hopefully one of you interested in those schools will get a call today. GLuck

I graduated in may 08 and i have been trying for admission. This is my third time and its not fun. I ll recommend to everyone who are graduating to continue your education in anything because I dont think my gap of 1.5 year is shining on my application. Remember nothing is guaranteed so its better to either start masters, post bacc, or something useful. I dont want to make anyone feel bad but dont want anyone to feel like me either so make sure you continue your education. Also, job market so crap that there will months w/o good stable income.

Also keep your hopes up. 🙂

I graduated in December 2005, 4 year gap. I had a job at an insurance company, and then did church service in Europe for a couple years, nothing related to academics. Personally, I feel that getting a job waiting for the next application cycle is the best option, but with the way things are right now (I've been out of work for 5 weeks) staying in school may be a good alternative. Whatever happens, don't have a gap on your application that is vacant. Fill your free time with volunteer work, pick up a hobby etc, show that you were doing something to be effective with your time. They will understand how difficult the job market is.

I know I need to apply to some OOS schools next year and I need to decide how many and which ones to apply to.

I quit my job to study for DAT and I did better than expected but since then I have been helping my dad at his business because finding a job is really hard.

To say you did well is an understatement!
You rocked that test! Nice job. 👍

Got the official rejection letter from UF today...as a Seminole, can't say I'm really disappointed that I won't be living in Gainesville and hanging out with a bunch of Gators haha...just annoyed at the fact that everyone I know from FSU got accepted at UF and I didn't...I thought Nova was such a nicer school, so hopefully something comes out of being an alternate! :xf:

Looking at Predents, UF definitely has some questionable acceptances/denials. Maybe they closed their eyes and picked out of a hat. Your stats should have gotten you in over some others.

you guys that got waitlisted at nova....did you have a status change on aadsas or get a letter in the mail? because I haven't heard anything and I'm starting to think I've been waitlisted...

Hey guys, the application cycle is only half way through. Keep your heads high and keep fighting through the battle!!! If you really think you might not get in this cycle, please start preparing for next year like looking into Master's, Post-Bacc .etc Have faith!!!!

I honestly don't know either...one thing that all the FSU people I know who got accepted have in common is that they're all officers in the pre-dental society, and with like 10 officers (half of which don't do much), it's really not that big of an honor...haha I am just trying to think of reasons why they all got in and I didn't.

You should have spent less time studying and more time accepting meaningless positions in future-professional clubs.

How'd your interview go? I know that's 1/3 of your total "points"

I though it was pretty decent...the only thing might have been that they mentioned I don't have a ton of shadowing hours (even though I thought 60 was plenty, but whatev..). And the thing is, the people I talked to after the interview (the ones from my undergrad), said they didn't think it went very well, but they both got accepted...so who knows

So is the low shadowing hrs the problem? I don't have a lot of shadowing hrs too and things aren't looking too bright for me right now. Your stats are great and you're a resident, so I have no clue what UF is lookin for ahah

I don't think that is the case.

Four pre-december interviews for me but no acceptance AS OF YET. I am pretty confident that I will be accepted eventually but the feeling of uncertainty is killing me! Patience is the most important part of this waiting game!:xf:

I think you got a good shot at Maryland. At the end of the interview I remember they told us that they can't send enough acceptances to fill up their class in Dec 1st and that if you didn't get accepted at Dec 1st, doesn't mean that they aren't interested in you. You got a good shot at Jan 15th, cross your fingers.

I'm kind of surprised by your stats and the rejection from UF. But you know what, stats aren't everything. Some people with high stats don't have the personality (not saying you don't though). How did you present yourself at the interview? Did you wear a suit?

Also, why are you "hating" on those who got into UF? If you didn't want to be a Gator, why did you even apply if other schools are so much nicer? Seems like somebody got bit by the jealousy bug.

So I've been reading these posts for a while now, but never actually joined. I was feeling this thread b/c I don't have any acceptances yet 😕 which has me worried, but it seems like this is turning into a bitter thread against those who got in - which is why I just joined. I know it sucks not to be accepted on Dec 1, but we still have a while to go. Why should we say negative things about others who got in? We all had equal shots? I don't want to jinx myself just in case I get some kind of good news soon!!! Here's to hoping for the best, but prepping for the worst. 😱

Of course I wore a suit, and I think I was nothing but absolutely professional and friendly. Mostly, I applied to UF because of the huge advantage of in state tuition. I've had family in Gainesville all my life, my dad was a huge Gator fan, my mom graduated from UF, granddad was a law prof there- it would have made no sense NOT to apply. Also, I know that I have a strong application, stats, and that I present myself well, so I am only bitter about the fact that some people who I (and others who would agree) believe have slightly less to offer. Honestly, I am somewhat relieved that I was not accepted, and thus do not need to deal with the pressure (mostly from myself, for the obvious financial reasons) of having to attend and be somewhere I do not think would make me completely happy. Nothing more to discuss.

I also applied to UF and am still awaiting a reply. Although I haven't received an acceptance yet, I am not bitter. I just find it hard to believe that you can actually say you have more to offer than some of those who got accepted. There is no telling what made the difference between you and another person who got accepted. All I am saying is think about what you say because when I read your posts you come across as someone who was and is still bitter about the fact that you did not get accepted to a school where you thought you were a "shoe in" even though you didn't even care to go to there. Perhaps they could read it in your face that you didn't care to go their school. Instead of dissing the school and the students they chose to accept, suck it up and hope for other acceptances.

Victoria, im going to take a stab at it and say that maybe your attitude is working against you. Maybe you need a year off to grow up.

Really not seeing where you got that impression? 😕

Victoria, im going to take a stab at it and say that maybe your attitude is working against you. Maybe you need a year off to grow up.

It's just some frustration showing.....which is understandable especially when you put in the hard work that victoria has.

Really, what is with the attacking? I never implied I was a "shoe in" whatsoever, I am not that naive. You're right, maybe there was something I don't know about that those other people had to offer that I didn't. I have made my statements based mostly on the stats I see on Predents...obviously there is more to someone's application than that, but we are not always privy to that kind of information. I am not trying to offend...and honestly, I think I have a right to be a little upset about not having an acceptance after working so hard to earn a decent GPA/DAT/ECs.

Everyone is entitled to feel their hard work should pay off. If I had her stats I think I would feel the same way. Even though its not all about numbers, they do play the most important role in an application IMO. I've never seen a person on predents.com with a 3.7 not get an interview.

At any rate you still have two interviews left. I would practice interviewing with people and get some feedback from them, see if they think improvements can be made upon your interview responses (or the way you carry yourself even during the interview). If not then just stick to what you've been doing, the app process can be pretty fickle sometimes. One thing I've noticed with some of the people I interviewed with is that certain responses that sound good on paper sound fake and scripted in real life. If that's not you then that's cool but just thought I'd throw that out there for those who have had bad luck with scripted responses.

Victoria, hang in there girl. Be strong and you still have a lot of chances for this year. It's early yet. Just be yourself and analyze what you/your family or friends think is the area of improvement. We all have room to grow. Just take a step back and think about your experiences. Don't lose yourself or your confidence. Live, Learn and move on. Best of luck.

I am sorry if you feel that you have been attacked. That is by no means what I meant to convey when I wrote my comments earlier. All I am saying is it sucks to be rejected, but lets not downplay those who have been accepted or degrade schools that rejected us. Just remember everything happens for a reason, even if we don't know it at the time. BTW - I know you're upset, I've been there, it sucks....but everything will work out in the end! We have to stay positive!!!🙂

I'm new here but have been viewing these forums for awhile this is my opinion on this situation involving Victoira

I'm not sticking up for any side on this debate but it is human nature to be a bit jealous and bitter if one is not accepted. She is just saying what many others are thinking if you were in her shoes. I do believe stats should play a substantial role if the interview did not go so well. I kind of hate it when I see stats where a person has a low gpa but high scores and gets accepted over people who are more well rounded . If you take a step back and think about all the long nights of studying and someone with a crappy gpa gets in it kind of shows that they were not mature enough to study while in undergrad, what do they think is going to happen while in dental school!! It blows my mind when these people get accepted before others who truly do everything right. Their excuses are always the same cliché responses. Give me a break, I was in the military and while I was in I took classes while working over 40 hours a week. There were also many times where I had to stand a four hour watch at night, go to work in the morning, and then attend a night class. So if i can keep my gpa at a 3.89 and 3.99 science I cant see what excuse anybody else should have that have stats that are sub par 3.0~3.4. Victoria's gpa shows that she did study and probably studied many nights when she could have gone out but chose not to because of what she knows is important in her life. So to Victoria, I can understand where you are coming from, I would be bitter to its only human nature.

I also know I will get attacked on this site for what I said but that is okay let the fun begin

I understand completely what rejection is like. But basically you feel you have a right to be accepted? That, at least to me, shows a lack of maturity and a poor attitude.

Your showing alot of that now and on alot of your other posts...

Theres nothing wrong with victoria, or any other person with good stats for being upset about not getting acceptances. But bashing on people with lower stats is just ridiculous. There are so many factors to take into consideration, having a high GPA probably means you work hard but having a low GPA doesn't necessarily you are lazy. A lot of students go to very challenging schools, and just because a couple individuals from difficult schools post high GPAs doesn't mean that its the norm. Dental schools recognize this which is why you'll see a fair bit of users getting in with GPAs that are even a tad bit below the averages.

I hardly think night classes (most likely taken at a JC) provide anywhere near the same scholastic challenges that competitive 4-year institution provides. 3.0-3.4 is far from subpar, 40% of all people in dental school got in with those stats. If you don't like it then tough.

Obviously didn't read my post...I said I have a right to be UPSET, not accepted...and really, that's great that you have multiple acceptances, but I would be celebrating right now if I were you...not going out of my way (yes, you went out of your way by coming to post in this thread that is obviously irrelevant to your situation) to insult the people like me who only wish we had something to celebrate about.
