sevenmints current senior med student. Extensive ps reading/revising/writing experience. An update -- have looked at about ~10 statements this last 2-3 weeks. Continuing to be extremely straightforward and tough (but not malicious) with feedback. Overwhelmingly positive feedback on help given. Current wait time is 1-2 weeks.
oogieboogie non-trad. Willing to read for content/grammar/spelling/style.
doctorwho101 love to edit (editor of two high school newspapers, writing intensive double major + honors in humanities & social science majors at top 10 university, writing center, etc) and got good reviews on the essays in my application at interviews. I am open to whatever kind of editing, whether you need general comments on the content or nit-picky notes on the grammar--i take editing very seriously and will give a lot of feedback if it's called for. I have a lot of free time at work so i can generally work through statements and multiple drafts pretty quickly. Feel free to pm me!
5/13 unfortunately, i have to temporarily remove myself from the list. I managed to injure my hand and typing is a bit difficult. I will do my best to work through my backlog in the meantime and hope to re-add myself at a later date. Cheers!
gobriightly will read for content/grammar/style. Successful cycle (13+ interview offers, multiple acceptances) as a md/phd applicant. I received positive feedback from multiple interviewers about my personal statement. I have extensive experience editing since high school and have edited ps for summer programs every year. Also willing to read research and md/phd motivation statements for applicants as well. I used this service last year and found the help to be invaluable! Feel free to pm me!
currently about a 3-4 week backlog... You can still pm but i won't be able to provide fast turn arounds
wavves i did this in 2011 and loved it, so i'm back to help some more. Bio/french major, writer/editor-in-chief for campus magazine, librarian, mcat tutor for verbal/writing sections, snappy dresser. Every interviewer stressed how much they loved my ps, and it was likely the reason i was invited to 11 schools. Will help with grammar, spelling, content, and flow/transitions. Please pm me before sending me your statement, though- it'll make it easier for me to manage the millions of requests i'll get. Also mention if you want me to focus on/help you with something specific, along with a band you think i should check out (i need a new summertime playlist).
latebutterflu: was an english major in college with a lot of focus on writing. Got excellent feedback on personal statement. Will be matriculating to an mstp this summer, so i'm willing to give feedback on the md/phd specific essays as well (although i might not be familiar with your specific research area). I love writing/reading/editing and will comment on content, flow, grammar, and anything specific you request. Quick turnaround (1-3 days) on weekdays. Pm me (and tell me your favorite book!), i'd be happy to help however i can.

dpan4 - incoming ms1 at a top 10. Md/phd candidate. International student. Majored in engineering for undergrad, but also did some creative writing. Can read both md as well as md/phd statements. Much better at content than grammar unfortunately.
NekoBeats - Matriculating this summer. Non-trad. Took honors creative writing, English, and composition-heavy courses for fun in undergrad and received high grades (at least an A). I love writing, and gave peers critiques on their papers/essays during both undergraduate and graduate school. Will read for content, flow, and grammar. Have previously read completed applications and personal statements. Be warned: If you send me your stuff, I will not sugar coat things
😉 I will be honest, but not mean. Also, do not ask me to send you my PS!! If interested in receiving feedback, shoot me a PM! I edit PS's on a
rolling basis (better get used to that
🙄).
As of 6/6/13: Still completely booked, currently not accepting any more new drafts. However, if I have already read your PS, I will still give you feedback on updated versions. And for those of you waiting on your drafts, I apologize for the delay. I'm trying to get through them as fast as I can! Please check your email and this thread for updates. Currently reviewing drafts received on May 15th
freesia88 - Journalism and Mass Comm major, English minor. Will edit content, flow and grammar. I will be mean and you will like it.

Kiddin' I can handle just one person at a time right now since I have stuff going on. Be glad to help all the same. BTW I am
NOT a med student yet. If you want feedback from a med student or resident etc do not contact me, please. kthanks.
No longer accepting until I clear out my list. For those who contacted me, I've been working on my grad school app. Sorry. Will get back to you in order received.
woland - non-traditional, foreign-born, incoming student for this fall. (finally, former) lawyer, but chose to follow the call of the heart. I will read for content/style, but will leave grammar to native english speakers. Edited many personal statements for pre-meds with successful interview/admission records. My own record: 27/30 invites with many acceptances.
update 5/26/2013: Temporarily closed to new submissions due to cross-country move. I will continue working with second edits and will complete already submitted first reads.
altruistss: Incoming non-traditional medical student with seven years of research experience. Been a wyzant tutor for a while and recently completed a course in expository writing.. I have been helped last year by the forum when i was drafting my ps and am here to give back to the pre-med community.
i can edit with style and forceful use of language. I am flooded with requests. You can send me your ps but i might take longer to send my comments but i will send them eventually
smarts1: Biology major in undergrad, but have extensive writing experiences (journalist for state newspaper and school newspaper). I love editing and giving feedback on writing. Will read for content and flow. Just finished my ps and will be applying this cycle, and so i'm willing to help anyone who needs an extra pair of eyes to look over their personal statement.
am flooded with requests for the time being. Will remove this when ready to take personal statements again. People who have sent me ps requests/sent me their personal statements will get feedback.
camy99: English minor with an emphasis in creative writing. I love to write and read, and as non-braggingly as i can say this: I've been told i'm great at it.
i am a harsh critic. ex. I will fix right down to your semicolons! But it's because i genuinely care. I will probably usually wait until the weekend to send feedback if i start to get a lot, but in general i'll try to get to them asap. Class of 2017er
🙂 As of 06/17: closed/going on vacation
clued: Incoming m1, cell bio major, a bit of a non-trad, GLBTQ background, received great feedback on my personal statement from faculty/peers/interviewers. Excelled in undergraduate writing courses. I'll help with content, structure, tone, and grammar. I've helped edit my friends' statements but it is my first time on here. I can be a little picky and direct so i hope you are okay with that!
As of 5/25: I am booked! I will get through what I have received so far as quickly as possible before I take on others. Look out for another update.
mimelim:Not Accepting - hammered at the hospital, huge queue. Will read all that have been sent so far and then open again Vascular Surgery resident. Former student medical school admissions committee member. Extensive research and education background. I will not edit your grammar or typos unless they are major issues, in which case I will simply point it out. I will give feedback on content and structure. I will not review any PS by members with less than 50 posts or anyone with a new thread to reply ratio higher than 0.1. If it says, "Accepting" next to my name, send your PS by SDN PM to me along with a sentence or two answering the question, "What should mimelim be thinking when he finishes reading my PS?"

Rocknrholim Hello there! I am a non trad, urm, and incoming MS1. I received a lot of praise for my personal statement from many readers. I was a social science major and received awards for my essays including my honors B.A. thesis. I can help with structure, theme, tone, and content, and with grammer/spelling if you request it. I will also be very blunt in my criticism, but you are of course free to not make the changes I suggest. Thanks!
UPDATE I won't be able to read anymore. If you sent me something I probably didn't get to it b/c of issues with my internet. Will update again when I can take more PS
SilverCat Incoming MS1 this year. Willing to edit for content, grammar, style, and structure.

earf Not Accepting - high queue. Also for those of you who have under 50 posts and especially for those with 3 years, 0 posts and still PM me, I will not be making any exceptions. Incoming MS1 this year with multiple acceptances and 16 interviews (40% invitations/applied). Non-trad, econ disadvantaged, and low GPA (which meant I had to make up for it with a stellar PS). BA/BS double major in Bio & Psych with a minor in global health. Took 2 years of intensive writing classes and tutored students in those classes for one year. Willing to edit for content & grammar. I like what mimelim posted above and will copy: I will not review any PS by members with less than 50 posts. If it says, "Accepting" next to my name, send your PS by SDN PM to me along with a sentence or two answering the question, "What should earf be thinking when he finishes reading my PS?"

RE-Accepting I appreciated the feedback I had from readers on sdn for my last cycle, so I'm willing to give time back, as I'm much more relaxed now. Nontraditional student, will edit for content/grammar, 800 sat writing (though not a lit major), 5 interviews from 14 completed secondaries. Will also be honest with first impression. No cutting corners here.
Just finished the pile in my inbox, currently accepting again via PM + "What is the take home message for syoung?" Going with the flow, only posts > 50 will be read. If you've sent me yours once before, I will re-edit 2nd drafts.
battousai -

Gatsby0216 -
ACCEPTING - Non traditional applicant Economics major and Teach for America alumnus; currently in medical school; received a lot of great feedback on my personal statement. I am willing to provide feedback on content, theme, structure, etc. Would much prefer to edit for content over grammar. Please give me some specifics that you would like me to address as that makes the editing process easier for me. I look forward to reading some now that I have a break!
spelledout -
NOT ACCEPTING - MD Graduate 2013, starting residency in emergency medicine. Non traditional applicant with anthropology and classics background. Would be willing to provide feedback on content, flow, and grammar, as well as how to make the PS unique without being overdone. If you have specific questions or concerns, please let me know so that I can focus on that.
Queue has filled up currently. Will revise when less bogged down

NOT ACCEPTING at the moment - Non traditional applicant applying this cycle. I have already turned in my applications in early June so no worries on me copying anything. With apps done, I find myself not knowing what to do with all this free time, so I thought I could help anyone that needs an extra read on their PS. When working on my own PS, I sought help from several professionals (medical school interviewer, healthcare professional, and English majors) and have an idea of how a good essay should go. My final PS received lots of great feedback. I can edit for grammar, content, and flow (preferably the latter 2).
Lya -
Accepting - Applying this cycle, I received a lot of help from people above, so I would love to give back. After finishing 30+ secondaries, I have some down time now for PS review. Positive feedback from several readers for my PS. I worked at a writing lab for 2 years, had extensive engineering projects overseas as well as research experiences for 4 years, and was a TA on multiple subjects since my freshman year. I also had a semester abroad for a cancer project. I am quite harsh with editing, so expect lots of colors and markings. I will mostly edit for content, flow, and theme. (After you PM me, it will be best that you set up the Google doc, allow "the person with the link" to edit, and PM me your link. So that I can simply click on the link, go to the Google doc with your PS on it, and I can edit online. Otherwise, that's alright too; we can work it out differently.)
Ismailidoc -
NOT ACCEPTING M4, Applied through ERAS and interviewing now. This will be the second time doing this. Will edit for content only. I assume that volume will be low at this time, but will stop after 5 PMs (until I can get through those) and then continue...
SnakeOilForSale Accepting Ready to accept some more now. I've been an English tutor for around three years now and my best skill in editing is getting rid of all nonessential information and chipping away verbal fluff to get to the heart of essays. I'm willing to edit for grammar and succinctness of ideas. I don't have a particular limit, but please don't message me if you have zero posts or some such. Thanks! 🙂
keepitloki - Accepting - BS Molecular Biology, Currently in MS Medical Science program. Non-trad. Happy to help if you need someone. I'm willing to edit for content primarily. Let me know what your concerns are! My PS was good enough to get me to the Class of 2018. So there's that...
😛
ihatebluescrubs - Accepting - Incoming MSTP MS0 that got a bunch of great PS feedback last year from SDN and hoping to pass the favor for anyone applying 2014/2015 cycle. I've served as a editor for two publications over the past three years and have received many positive feedback on my essay during interviews. I can provide a holistic review of your essay. Specifically, I can help with MD/PhD statements as well as any PS that may touch upon LGBT issues. If interested, just shoot me a PM and I'll give you my email to send your PS to.
