Hey guys! Time for a new thread :)

Here are some helpful links in regards to writing your PS:
**The Official Personal Statement Guide and PS Readers List **
To Premeds: General Advice on Personal Statements
Depakote's Personal Statement Guide/Tips

Just a few notes:
  • It may be helpful for you to include a bit of a background (ECs especially), so the reader knows a little more about you and can help go from generic -> personal
  • Contact the reader via PM to find the best way to share your PS-- Do NOT post your email address (or any other personal information) here.
    • Common ways are directly in a PM, via Word through emails/attachments, or Google Docs.
  • Reading PS's take time, so give your readers a week or two to get back to you :)
  • Be sure to have multiple people look at your PS, including other readers and friends & family too!
  • Be wary of those applying this cycle- not to say everyone is out to get you and they're gunna copy your PS, but it's better to be safe than sorry.
  • Please only send the readers final drafts. They are busy and do not have hours to spend working through a PS with you. Please proofread your statement and send it to us for feedback regarding content/flow.
Readers:
  • If you would like to be added or deleted from the list, PM me! (And include any information you'd like users to know).
  • This is strictly on a volunteer basis, so do NOT ask for money or any other type of compensation. You will be removed & reported.
  • If you are unable to read/getting swamped/anything, please let any new requests know so that they aren't waiting on you, and let me know if you'd like to be taken off the list.
  • Do NOT share any part of a user's PS without their permission.
Readers available! (arranged by year, then school):
--- new list soon ----

Not available. Please don't message these users about reading your PS!:
-----

- If you have any issues, such as a reader not getting back to you timely or an applicant/reader being rude/harsh, please PM me! I'd like to know the issue and work towards solving it.
- Remember, if you'd like to be added, PM me or post here :)

PM the reader asking if they are available to read your PS! Do not post here, waiting for a reader to message you!!
Best of luck everyone! Let me know if you have any questions/comments/concerns! :highfive:

I don't know whether to be in awe or to cringe that this service is being provided here. I have tremendous respect for readers volunteering their valuable time to provide this service, but something about it seems off to me. I would suggest candidates primarily seek out their schools writing centers, faculty or acquaintances when seeking help with their personal statements. Strangers on the internet feels like bad joojoo.

You're entitled to your opinion but I do this out of the little free time that I have, to help others who may not necessarily be in a position to be able to seek help elsewhere. Also, this is pretty much just accepted/actual dental students reading/editing/giving feedback. Nothing is "off" about this - I don't allow people that have few posts or seem like they're applying this current cycle to be on this list reading PS's, to prevent ideas from being stolen. All of these users have plenty of posts that provide great advice/feedback/information, and have been vetted by me :) "Bad joojoo" could be said about any advice given on these forums, even yours so....to each their own.

Good luck this cycle!

Aye, to reiterate, my initial post was misinformed. Artist2022 is the real deal and you would be fortunate to have her check your essays. Sorry for doubting :)

Hi everyone,

I've had my PS read by several people already and actually edited it several time. It looks nothing like the first draft and I have one question:

When do I know it's ready?
Even now, some people have stated that they liked it and some people said it's okay, getting there, needs work, needs unique/wow, factor. When I read it, I personally think it's okay/solid.

When can I know that it's ready to be submitted if I can't meet everyone's changes?

I think it's when you think it's at its absolute strongest and there's really nothing more that you can add to it.

Hey everyone, I think it's time to retire this thread. Keep on the lookout for next year's thread (to come sometime in March!)

Thank you to everyone who volunteered their time to be a reader for applicants this cycle, and I hope some applicants will pay it forward by reading PS's for the class of 2025! (cue: :wow:) PM me if so and I'll add you to a list!

Happy Holidays :)

Hey guys, as it's mid-March now and the cycle will be opening up in a few months, I'm looking for readers again!

If you would like to be a reader, please PM me with the school you'll be/you're attending and any relevant info (like HPSP, NHSC, URM, reapplicant, nontrad, military, etc), and have the subject be "I'd like to be a PS reader" or similar. **This is on a volunteer basis**

I will be picky about those I "accept" because I want trustworthy people that will not steal a user's PS, so you must have an active post history and have already applied and been accepted. No trolls either

A list will be posted at the end of March!
