Has anyone gotten in off the waitlist at Rush or knows there rank, please post... Also, has anyone rejected Rush after being accepted? They were supposed to release their ranking of the waitlist this past Friday but I couldn't get through, did any of you guys?

Hey Anxiousmed,
I called this morning to get my ranking on the waitlist, so you can probably do the same. If you do decide to call today can you ask them how the waitlist is broken down into percentiles.

Hey I called, I was placed in the top 50% percentile, what about you? The waitlist is 200 people, last year it was 150 and 65 got in. This sucks, Keep in touch
VERYanxiousmed

I also called Rush this morning and I found out I'm in the top 25%!!!!! The lady who I talked to sounded as if most everyone in this group will get off the waitlist. Rush is my first choice so I'm really hoping this is true. Is anyone else out there wanting to go to Rush really really bad?????

Hello Jennien, if you don't mind, what are you stats, mcats gpa's? I am thinking that since i'm in the top half, I won't get in so maybe I should retake it. Thanks,
anxiousmed

Waitlisted at Rush also. Top 50%. Would love to go there.

Hi AnxiousMed! My GPA is 3.8 and my MCAT only 25. I have lots of research experience and great extra-curriculars. Also international education for three months. My MCAT is really low but I've already been accepted to one other medical school, waitlisted at Rush and still waiting to hear from UIC post-interview. Don't give up hope! Not everyone has 30 MCAT scores!!!!

Hey Jennien, My background seems very similar to yours...a lot of research, leadership positions, experience, graduate degree, etc.. I don't know if I should retake the mcat again, I don't know have the "motivation" to go through that. Well, I wish you the best and hopefully WE endup classmates at Rush,
Anxiousmed

Has anyone heard from Rush since the post May-15 date?

yes i was sent an email (and to other accepted students), that RUSH was NOT enforcing a may15th deadline, but rather June 1st. the reasoning was that the rush financial office is behind in giving prospectives their financial package, and this can be a significant (or deciding) factor in choosing a medical school. So the office wanted prospectives to have more time to get their fin. aid package and see if they still want to go to rush. So its possible more seats will be given up on june 1st, rather than may 15th.
This email was sent to me the day i sent my release. thought it was funny because i was thinking i had to send it out by may 15th, but in fact i didn't have to.

Good luck in getting into Rush, i'm sure there will be alot of movement. Just cross your fingers and drink alot of beer and relax.

upper 25%; was told by the lady that we would be hearing in a week. she said it is a sure thing to get off the waitlist with this rank! and I guess it moves fast too.

AWesome!!! I'm in the top 25% and I was wondering when we would hear anything. It kind of made me nervous with the post about the May 15 deadline being put off until June 1. That made me think I wouldn't know anything until mid-June. I keep sending in all of this financial aid stuff to the school I'm holding an acceptance to, but I really want to go to Rush so I wish they would just send me an acceptance!!!!

Does anyone know how much the waitlist actually moves?

I was told during my interview that last year, roughly 200 people were wait-listed and of those 75 people were eventually accepted.

That seems like good news...hopefully the list moves as much this year as well. Does anyone know how full this year's class is?

My friend just got in this past friday off the waitlist so get ready guys its moving!!

I talked to rush today, only 7 people so far have given up their seat.....

I'm afraid more won't come until after june 1. My friend is not giving hers up until then.

For those of you who are in my position waiting for their 1st acceptance, are you planning on retaking the MCAT?

I just called Rush today to ask about movement off of the waitlist. The lady told me that there was no movement since the last time I had called (5/13) but in all the years she's been there, the top 25% of waitlistees have gotten in. She said to be patient and good luck! She also mentioned that she records the date people call in and she lets admissions know who has still been actively interested in their status.

hey anxious, didn't you apply to uic as well? just wondering....

someone told me only 30/150 got in of the waitlist last year from a pre-med advisor but that doesn't make sense b/c i've heard numerous times that like 60-70 got in...this years list is 200 right?

I've heard these two sides also. one, the sec and people on sdn say that they pull a lot of people off the waitlist, but this may be wrong since I think the secretaries may be just trying to keep us interested in the school incase they need us. two, friends have told me that they heard that about 30 people get in off the waitlist.

or they could both be right and that rush goes to a lot of people (like 70) from the waitlist, but only about 30 decide to accept

hey- so for you guys who are itching at getting into Rush-- may I ask why you'd like to go there? What specifically is it about Rush that tickles you??
i'm going to apply to all the schools in chicago- uic, loyola, northwestern, and maybe u of c(i hear it's not fun there though), and rush. So just curious...
good luck to all of you though on getting in!
dave

I loved the atmosphere there, their curriculum, early clinical exposure.etc. I've heard that they accept they first quartile always so that would be around 50 people thus far..i just hope it moves

June 1st is coming....bump......

why won't this waitlist move?? I havn't heard of anyone getting off the list!! anyway, tomorrow is the new deadline so hopefully they hand some acceptances out

I keep in contact with Kerry in the office and she said that after June 1st she expects the list to definately start moving. I'm in the top 25% and she said I have a very respectable rank and I should be hearing soon. Good luck to everyone and hope to see you at Rush in the fall!

hey, thats good to hear, thanks for the info. is the list ranked in the quartiles also? like did she tell you where you were in the top 25%?

She didn't tell me where I was in the top 25%, but she told I "have a VERY respectable ranking". She used the caps and everything! She also said it wouldn't be a question of if I get in, but "when" I get my acceptance letter. I think the only ranking system they use is in percents: Top 25%, Top 50%, or Bottom 50%.

jennien, that's great news for you...i'm glad. hey vdawg, i posted earlier that my friend got in off the waitlist already however he was ranked reallly high on the list. i hope it moves...jennien are you out of state resident? you konw I already know about 12 people that are going there for sure...i don't know if that's a good thing for us...oh well...are any of you guys filling out the amcas again? thanks

Well, the June 1st deadline has passed! Hopefully the list will start moving. Anxious Med....I live in Indiana currently but am a IL resident. Good luck to everyone!!!

I called the office today they said they won't make any decision till next week since this week is graduation....more waiting

next week meaning after the 10th of june?

Vdawg, congrats.....i read the other post..you got into UIC...i'm sure it feels good! Would you go to rush over uic? just curious.....my friend is in the opposite dilemna..he got into rush wants to go to UIC.....oh well...congrats once again......

In the top 25%...waiting to hear. I have been touching base with Kerry about once a week. Should I up this? Anyone have any thoughts on why so many people decline Rush? Does it make a huge difference if you are an out of state resident in coming off of the wait list? Also, any perspectives on Chicago would be greatly appreciated as I was in the city for less than 24 hours and didn't enough time to get a good feel for it. Thanks

-p•••••A lot of people decline Rush because most got in at both Rush and UIC - and UIC is by far the cheaper of the two, which is attractive to lots of people. I think that once a week is fine - you don't want to appear desperate and needy.

I could write a book (with many, many chapters) about Chicago - what is it that you want to know, exactly?

Hey any general info on Chicago would be great. Pros/Cons of the area. What activites do the students partake in? Do you have any personal perspectives on Rush from people you know who go there? What are the students like? I ask because we only had the opportunity to meet with two students during our interview..who were in the middle of exams...doesn't really help you get a great perspective.
Thanks,
-p

-p•••••The UIC/Rush area (the two schools are only a few blocks away from each other) is great. Little Italy is right in the area, and you're right on the outside edge of downtown Chicago. There are SO many things to do in Chicago, I couldn't possibly name even 5% - you name it, Chicago has it. Including crime - it can get a little shady around the Medical Center area late at night (after midnight) because you have some inconveniently placed ghettos in the surrounding areas. Honestly, though, I've had more problems with this sort of thing on the north side (which is considered safe) than downtown. You just have to be smart - don't go to ATMs at night, don't walk around counting money at 2am, always let someone know if you'll be out late, etc.

As far as Rush itself, I have a really good friend there who is finishing his 1st year right now. According to him (and people I talked with on my interview day), people at Rush really love it there. There are lots of student activites and they are actively pursued (I think I read that 85% participate in SOMETHING). In fact, they have one night of the week where they do volunteer work at a clinic for the uninsured that I worked at during undergrad, so it'll be nice to continue there as a med student. In general, students are really happy there. Very non-competitive, lots of support from the students, faculty, and administration, etc etc. I've not really heard a bad thing except for something one of my interviewers mentioned: she felt that Rush babies their students to much because they give you a syllabus at the beginning of the semester detailing everything that you will need to know for the exams. Apparently, this makes it so that you pretty much know what to expect, what to study - in other words, she felt that the material was too spoon-fed to students. Although I'm not sure I agree with her that it's a bad thing, necessarily, I can see where she's coming from on this point.

Of the 15 or so Rush students I've met and the one I know personally, I've not heard a complaint. And they're pretty convincing - I pulled all my apps/waitlists after I got accepted. For me, it's a perfect situation - I'm right near downtown Chicago, have a good friend there, was really impressed by everything, etc. And I got a pretty nice financial aid package, which truly sealed the deal.

If I didn't fully answer your question, let me know - I'm happy to give more info.

Has there been any movement?
Anyone know how long their waitlist is active?

Thanks rxfudd...definitely helped. I have to get in before any decisions are made (minor detail right?), but more to come on that. One last questions...do they send you a financial aid package with your acceptance letter or after?

-p•••••Actually, you initiate the financial aid process. If you haven't done it already, you should submit your FAFSA application. Put Rush down (as well as any other school you're waitlisted at) as a recipient of your FAFSA application and the school's fin aid office will get your info. At Rush, once you get accepted, you send in an institutional application for financial aid (available on their web site) - very similar to FAFSA, but it includes parent info so that you're eligible for grants. Also, you have the opportunity to list any grants that you think you're eligible for. Once you send this information in, they get back to you within a few weeks with your fin aid package.

One person tells me... UIC for sure, and another person tells me Rush for sure. they are so similar and different at the same time!!

Hey vdawg, well at least for now you have something solid in your pocket! Maybe I could put you in touch with my friend if you want...keep us posted if you hear anything from RUSH...

Hey Rxfudd, how ar eyou man...well if you don't mind sharing...what were your stats...the reason i ask is b/c i feel that all my ECs, Recs, GPA's, etc..is fine its just the MCAT....thanks..

Hey traumamd, are you in top 25%?

Thanks

I called the office at Rush the other day and they said they hope to giving some offers by Friday. Good luck to all!!!
