I need to finish that too. I was going to send them an email today about getting it done at their hospital. It will be covered by our Rush insurance, right? we just have to pay the visit fee?

I was confused, because I didn't think the med. insurance would kick in before registration.

The titers for immunization are covered, but make sure you work through Lifetime Medical Associates, they run the primary care clinic at Rush that serves the students. Do not just walk into the Rush ER or make an appointment with another physician. I do not know if you can get it covered.

Make sure you mention you are an incoming Rush student and they will start a file.

Thanks for the replies 🙂 I'll get it done next week.

@ LordoftheFries: I know you probably checked this, but maybe it's in your junk mail folder? If not, send them an email and tell them about the problem, and maybe give a new email. You could also update your AMCAS profile.

Here's what the email said:

RE: Rush Medical College Orientation

Hello Class of 2009,

As September quickly approaches, we realize a number of you may have
questions regarding Orientation. Please visit our just posted web page at:

http://www.rushu.rush.edu/medcol/ori.html

Informational Services, the Registrar's Office, The McCormick Educational
Technology Center (METC) and my office continue to work on setting up your
Rush email accounts. If all goes well, you should be hearing from us soon
regarding your rush email address, log-in, passwords, etc. Stay tuned.

We are also putting the final touches on our White Coat Ceremony which will
be held Friday, September 9th at 2:30 in the afternoon with a reception in
the Armour Academic Center immediately following. Parents and significant
others are invited to attend. Please look for an official invitation
forthcoming requesting an RSVP.

Hope you are enjoying what is left of your summer. Take care and we will
see each of you on September 7th.

**There was a new email sent out today for anyone interested in volunteering:

Welcome to Rush!

We are all thrilled you are joining us as you continue your journey in
becoming a physician. Some of you might be aware that I direct the
community service programs within the Medical College.

It is my pleasure to share with you a golden opportunity. On Saturday,
August 27th the students are planning an interdisciplinary health fair at
Piotrowski Park's fieldhouse (4247 West 31st Street -- across from Home
Run Inn Pizza). The times are from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

If you are available and are willing to volunteer, let me know and I'll
gladly give you the details. We are arranging transportation to pick
people up from the Medical Center at 8:15 and return them to Rush at the
end of the day.

So, if you are anxious to interact with committed healthcare providers and
shadow Rush students, we would love to have you involved. Please let me
know.

yeah, that would be a good guess.

I also got an email from:
[email protected]
Jill M. Porter, M.S.Ed.
Director Special Programs
[email protected] (phone-312.942.2704)

They resent the 10 tips email again and also mentioned that some people didn't get it the first time. So they maybe aware of the email problem. You could call her to fix it too.

Are you getting emails now? They sent a 'white coat ceremony Evite' on Aug 22nd.

Got my lease today 😀

I didn't know they raised the rent of studios to $738/month from $706. Does anyone know what the rent is for a 1 BDRM apt now?

Hello

I too am an incoming student at Rush....I had a question regarding the student health insurance plan. As far as I know it is a mandatory plan for the medical students at Rush. Is the cost of this insurance included in the tuition fees because I have ‘0’ medical insurance allowance in my financial aid letter?

Also, is this PPO? Or do we have an option of choosing HMO or PPO?

Thanks!

Hey there, it is mandatory to have their insurance plan or an "equivelant" plan of your own. Basically you just have to take your insurance card to them and they make a copy for their records to prove you are covered. I think they have a ppo(not 100% sure) but it is not covered as part of your tuition expenses. I would call them to find out about your allowance for this, unless you have already told them you will not need to take out $$ for it.

Thanks opus03 for the info!

Anybody going to the volunteering activity this saturday?

Thanks keeping me in the loop about the emails, hazard. i actually talked to someone in the registrar's office about getting on the list on tuesday, so it should be taken care of. i still haven't gotten any emails though, so am hoping none have been sent out since then. the fact that i got in off the waitlist screwed things up

have you guys gotten your email accounts yet?

Haven't gotten info about Rush email accounts, but I did get an RSVP email about the white coat ceremony. It was a personalized link, so it wouldn't do you any good if I posted it up here. They asked us to reply by Sept 1st, so if you don't get an email soon, you'll have to call them again.

Weee! Just getting moved into center court. I'm knee-deep in cardboard and excited as all hell! Biohazard - when is your lease for?

1 BDR is $856/mo.

Negative on the volunteering. Things are crazy enough as is - I need my personal affects in order first. There's plenty of time to figure out where I'm going to devote my "free time."

😀

Weird that they didn't raise the rent for 1 BDRMS. My lease is from Sept 6-June 15. But I'll move to a 1 bdrm in dec. I can arrange to get my stuff moved before sep 6th, right?

I gotta start packing too! 😀

Absolutely! Call them to set up moving. I came down here a while back to do my titers and popped in to take a look at an apartment. The lady asked me when I was moving in and I said, "well, my lease is for Sept. 1st.... so Sept. 1st?" Come to find out you can move in before that for free! So, I'm already here and grateful to have plenty of time to get adjusted. I'm sure move in slots have greatly filled up, but you should still be able to come in early.

I'll be there, but only to get my apt keys and move in some stuff. Going out probably won't work for me 🙁.
I'll be in Gurnee for most of the weekend to buy some last minute things.

No emails yet. Don't worry I'll post here if I get anything.

Not bad at all. Doesn't have a lot of boring lectures like I've seen in some orientation schedules. Leaves more time for other fun stuff 🙂

New email for those who didn't get it:

Dear M1s,

We are looking forward to seeing you next week when you begin your career
as a Rush medical student, more commonly known as an M1! As we prepare for
your arrival, please remember to:

1. Complete the AAMC Matriculation Questionaire
The Association of American Medical Colleges asks each medical school to
have all entering students complete a survey. The AAMC, in turn, uses this
information to plan the direction of medical education, assess the nation's
future physician supply, and monitor policies on educational costs. It
should take you roughly 30 minutes to complete the survey. To begin the
survey, please go to:

http://services.aamc.org/msq/index.cfm?surveyid=3

You will need your AAMC ID to complete this survey. If you do not know your
ID, you can access it online
https://services.aamc.org/idlookup/dsp_form.cfm?mode=MSQ> with your name,
date of birth and e-mail address. Your actual responses are confidential,
but the AAMC will let us know if you have completed the survey.

2. Orientation Schedule

Next week's orientation schedule is enclosed. Please note there may be
some last minute adjustments in the schedule due to urgent patient care
needs of our presenting faculty.

(See attached file: schedule2005.doc)

See everyone on Wednesday!

I'm leaving right now from my house with a few last things. It was a crazy day today!

WELCOME TO RUSH everyone, hope everyone enjoyed orientation and getting ready to cut up the cadavers tomorrow. Good luck to all!

Thanks.
haha the real fun starts tomorrow 😛.

I think our anatomy lab starts next week, unlike you guys who had the lab the first day!

Good luck everyone.

Nice! Good for you guys though, that was nice of them. Hope you guys are enjoying yourselves..... 🙂

Yeah, things are great so far. Ask us again after the first round of midterms! 😱

Considering I was on call during the Little Sib lunch, i wanted to adopt the SDN Rush M1s as little sibs, so if you guys need advice about books, need some books (i think i have a histo atlas sitting around, anatomy stuff, biochem stuff) just send a PM. I have my internal medicine shelf on friday, where is my motivation to study?! Good luck, GO BEARS!

Just out of curiosity- does anyone know how many Rush M1's live in MD district apts? There like at least 10-15 UIC M1's. We should like introduce ourselves to each other eventually.

Oh, and btw, how does it feel starting school a month after us???! you are so lucky! I've already managed to f- up 2 exams.. and have the first gross on monday.

I know a bunch of D1s (UIC dental) that live both in the MD apts and in the Garibaldi condos across from Rush (myself included).

I know this is kind of invading Rush's thread....but to the UIC M1's...thanks for the good dissections...we took our first practical yesterday and by far the cadavers we used that were in your section were much better than ours were. Cant wait until we are done with that class...we spend way too much time cutting and not nearly enough learning. Where do the Rush students dissect...do you have your own labs? We are sort of lucky because we dont have to dissect anything from the waist down....but obviously because of the nature of dentistry we focus heavily on head and neck.

Its been only 4 weeks and it seems pretty overwhelming....

Good luck Rush students....watch out for the Ashland hooker who looms around the MD apts, Garibaldi and Rush...she's always carrying an umbrella and riding around on a bicycle.

WAHOO! Done with my internal medicine rotation! I cant believe 25% of my 3rd year is over. Test was really tough, but I'm done, and I am going to NYC this weekend 🙂 Ob/gyn starts on monday... Hope everyone is doing well and that you guys are enjoying anatomy lab. Enjoy the weekend!

sga814 - I have no idea who lives in the MD apartments. I haven't met a single M1 that does. It's probably the older students/residents? I know I've seen some of our profs leave there. Starting later than the rest of the world is fine for now, but it's going to suck come June.... And don't worry, we'll f--- up some exams too, it'll just be in October!

bullfan16 - yes we have our own lab in the academic building. we just dove into the thorax this week. yeeaaaahhh!

samyjay - congrats!! enjoy your weekend in NY! anatomy is great, i love it. and dr. beck is awesome. i've read and been told plenty of tips for anatomy lab in general, but any tips specific to rush?

Hey all current M3's. I wanted to get your thoughts on how M1 went.

What did you think of Center Court apartments?

Where were common places to study (library, coffee shops on Taylor St.)?

Any thoughts on Circle Apartments?

How was the safety? Walking home at night (where was home)? Walking alone?

Thanks in advance!
