Do anyone feel they did well on their interview essay and that might had helped in getting acceptance? Just curious!

I wrote 2 paragraphs. Didn't even took half a page. The girl next to me from Northwestern wrote a full page in teeny lil words. May not have been the personal essay.

But it was the best dang 2 paragraphs ever written. Like, ever. In the history of man. Before they had teeth.

I wrote mine in 10 minutes and sat there twiddling my thumbs for the next 20 minutes. 🙄

I agree- I actually thought that would be the factor that would keep me out of UCSF. Thankfully, it was not the case!

Should we anticipate on losing you to LA? Maybe our facebook grp'll drop to 19 members?

Definitely not, UCSF is my first choice. Everyone is telling me I should go to the interview, but I feel that it is unfair to take the spot of someone that is genuinely interested in attending the school…😕

Yea, you should go to the interview. You won't take anyone's spot if you don't accept their offer. If anything at all, you'll find out where you want to do your residency. Or maybe how competitive you are in their eyes. I regret not going to mine now, actually.

I went to my Maryland interview and learned how kickass their school is and wouldn't mind doing my residency there!

Hey guys,
Couple of questions,
.1..I know UCSF has a really nice gym…do we need to pay any kind of membership?..
.2. Do I need to save any of my undergraduate books like Human Physiology, Microbiology, Cell Physiology, Anatomy and so on?.

surely gym fees are somewhere in that $8998698723896213982 that we will be paying for dental school. 😀

Somehow, I remember hearing that gym membership IS included. Actually, come to think of it, I asked that question during interview day and James Bebetze wasn't sure, so who knows! 😕 I found the Millberry Rec and Fitness Center website, maybe it says somewhere in there. I would imagine that UCSF wants to give its students an incentive for keeping their bodies healthy and in good shape, after all it IS a health professional school...

No idea about the 2nd question, although I doubt they would teach you something you can't look up in lecture notes or the books they make you buy for that class. I would assume that those are a great deal more relevant to the course material than your old undergrad course books. Then again, it doesn't hurt to keep your old books unless of course you want to sell them to help pay for nice things, possibly a UCSF gym membership 😛.

I hesitated to answer that question, because I figured I'd let someone else field it. My mistake. 🙂

I had the manager at the gym there give me a tour of their facilities. Gym membership's included in our student fees. If you have a family member that wants to join, then it's an additional fee. No clue what that rate is.

For the guys, the weight area's okay. They have all the major equipment, but the only thing lacking is the fly machine. It's completely ineffective, so you may want to bulk up your chest this year before you go to SF. Unless you're a big bencher.

For the girls, they seem to have all the major the ladies love so much. Elliptical, treadmill, cycling (powered thou, I didn't see a manual one for all those spinners out there). I think I saw a rowing machine but am not sure.

There's also an area for classes. Seems somewhat compact but nice regardless. I assume it's for yoga and such.

Happy fitness.

And as far as textbooks go, there's no harm in keeping them for reference. But be warned that the material here on will have a clinical/medical focus and does into much more depth. Undergrad textbooks rarely will cut it.

Is 300 considered "big bencher" ? 😀

Thanks for the info. guys.

Yeah, I don't like being a "provisional admit." I want in already.

Yeah me too.

I got one for NYU. I sent them in my non refundable deposit, so I might as well take their email and join facebook NYU network and check out their girls.

You'll hear from them about 2 months before the move-in date you requested.

When are you all thinking of moving? Orientation isn't until mid Sept. but it is also my understanding that the housing leases go a full year from July-June.

Thanks UCSF2012.

I am thinking about moving between May and June, that's because most of the contracts and leases get expired. Based on what I've heard from other people, May and June is a good time to look for a place.

Is anyone planning to bring his/her car? I know the director of the admission said that you don't need a car in SF. But what if you want to go to the Costco or some other place that you need your car? If I get a free parking, I'll bring my car with me. It's an old junk that runs great. And If you guys needs a right to the Costoc or something I can help you guys out. May be twice a month or every 3 weeks we'll do a Costco run (I have the Costco card) and if anyone needs anything they can hop in with me.

Officially, probably 2-3 weeks before orientation. And I'm not bringing my car. There's street cleaning every Monday on my street from 8-10am and there is no way I'm moving my car every week to park it a zillion miles away from my place, then to have to retrieve it again before it gets towed because of some other street cleaning sign. It's a hassle to have a car in SF and driving in the city stresses me out. Oh, and by the way, gas on last Monday was $3.55 for 87 octane.

Thanks UCSF2012.

Free parking spot in SF? bahahaha. ...jk. It's not gonna work in SF. I think you should buy a scooter or vespa. I saw a pink one on eBay if you're interested.

Is it hot pink ?.. I'll get that with no hesitation, I've been waiting for a hot pink scooter for years.. j/k. I guess my car is gonna be on sale too.

The other day I visited UCSF and you've got to admit that our library is off the hook. I saw some UoP people there studying..lol. If any of you got a picture of it, can you insert it in here?

Stupid UoP people. Post pictures of the UoP students in our library so someone can call security.😀

It looks like no one has their pictures...but that's OK. As soon as my financial aid get approved, I'm gonna hire a private investigar and I'll have him to check out these UoP students and find out what exactly these guys are up to.

Does anyone know where Laundry is at? It's been been a while that he hasn't posted anything. Has he abandoned us?

He told me he was gonna go to UoP to check out their girls. If he hasn't returned, he may have been kidnapped.

I still haven't heard anything from Laundry. Looks like I will be forced to report this kidnapping to FBI. UoP PEOPE..Let Our Laundry Go, Or Yo'll Be Dreaming About Dentistry From Behind Prison Bars.

I do believe it's spring break for the kiddies. Laundry's prolly just chasing some tail. He is after all, a 300lb-lifting machine the ladies call Big Sexy.

i'll try to get some shots of the ucsf library. i have been wanting to take some photos of the school to add to my mini photo collection. plus, i need to scope out the parking situation and how traffic is like in the morning.

who interviewed on November 2nd?

Hey All,

Just want to share some good news with you guys. UCSF decided to spend several millions to modernize & upgrade its preclinical laboratory. The work should be completed by the summer of 2009. Our preclinical lab will be one of the most modern labs in the nation.

Hey Tom, you got a link for that? I'd like to read about it.

Just want to let you guys know, if you're planning to get an ipod make sure you get the video ipod. UCSF decided to podcast (video) their lectures. I don't know what classes are getting podcast for D1, but based my conversation with several students, it seems that most of our classes will be podcasting. Does any one know what classes are exactly getting podcast?

nope, But I'm guessing it will be the basic sciences lectures (biochem, gross, embryo, etc..) I do know that I can finally use that application on my ipod though...

TomTom, can't you be a normal guy and look at pictures of girlies and not the UCSF library? 😉

tekstyle,

Now you have a new project ! Take a picture of the library but make sure you capture some girls in there too. Librarians does not count. By the way people, if it's taking tekstyle over two months just to post some picture of the library, how long do you think its gonna take him for his new project, library and the girls.

What are you guys planning to do this summer? And when are guys gonna move to SF?

You can take pictures of us sexy first years in the library. Then go up to your gf and tell her, "Hey hun, look at these pictures of all these fine dudes I took at the library..." 😀

I have been contact by april 1st saying i am on waiting list #1, what are my chances of getting into? I heard the deadline for deposit is April 15. Also anyone who decide to withdraw from UCSF please do so as early as possible, i am very concerned about my status, thanks so much for the help.🙂

There are rumors flowing around at UCSF that the class 2012 will go to have an accelerated program for next year due to the pre-clinical lab close down for remodeling from May 2009 to Sep 2009. For UCs, tuition will raise one more time in next school year.

Well, since classes now start in OCTOBER, I'm just happy there's even class next year.

Hey Shinji, would a summer shutdown of preclinic lab even affect the D1s or D2s next year?

Class of 2012 would actually have midJun-endSep of 2009 off. D1s get the first summer off at UCSF.

Class of 2011 (D2s next year) would be rotating from preclinic into clinic that summer quarter of 2009.

In other words it would seem the administration has taken into account scheduling for the renovations, and there would NOT be an accelerated program.

i just received an email regarding computer requirements. Are all of your getting new computers or upgrading? I am comtemplating whether I should. I have a dell 710m and a desktop with P4 3.4GHZ 2gb ddr ram
