someone said in the other acceptance thread that Louisville does all of their interviewing, accepting, rejecting, waitlisting, by Dec 1st. So no post dec 1st interviews or anything.

anyone else heard of this?

If you READ what I said, I said that they let everyone know their status. I did NOT say that they are done interviewing. I know it's late night and everything but you need to read what's written before panicking. Louisville told us that they will tell everyone who interviewed their status (all three possibilities) on dec 1st.

I am pretty bummed. I got waitlisted. I am hoping that people who don't consider Louisville their first choice tell them No so that spots open up. This is my first choice and I really want to go there. I called and they said their waitlist is not ranked. Anyone have experience being on the waitlist there and then getting in?

Ditto. I remember emailing Old School a bunch of questions last year around this time as well, hahaha.

We should really be studying for finals, but meh, finals are overrated.

Anyways, congrats on the acceptance! I love Louisville and I hope to see all of you next July!
 
Congrats everyone. I'm loving it here so far. As for Jig...get back to studying...you're never going to do as well on this Physio test as you did on the 2nd one!

There were plenty of people in my class that didn't get in on December 1st. (I'm pretty sure I saw some interviewees today, actually.) The roster grows all the way through May I think. Some people double deposit and choose not to go here. We had 85 in our class with a good portion of out of state students. Like Old School, I'm open for any questions.

I have an interview coming up December 5th and want to know what are the chances of getting into the program for an out of state resident like me. I looked at the charts provided on another blog, but I didn't quite comprehend the numeric statistics for each dental school. Thanks.

I'm actually at lunch right now with a student that interviewed at the end of january and was accepted june 1st. she was put on the "next to be contacted list" for a while. Other people that I'm sitting with said that if you interview before the break you have a really good chance. Send me a private message if you have other questions.
Where are you coming from out of state?
Good luck with everything and I guess I'll see you on friday...i'll be the one in blue scrubs......(btw everyone is wearing blue scrubs)

Thank you for letting me know where I stand. I am a California resident and will be flying in Thursday night. I am excited for this interview that I have this Friday and am looking forward to meeting with you.

You'd better show up. we have 3 physio reviews in the morning, an oral radiology review at noon, and my half of the class has an operative competency.

Also...to those accepted:

Make a facebook group so that you can start talking to your classmates, ask questions to each other, find roommates, etc. Our class did and were able to meet up before school starts. Especially good if you're out of state.

Congrats! Hey, don't be too tough on WKU! There really is no shame now for Louisville since we beat Georgia too! Oh, it's good to be a Hilltopper! 😀
 
Hey everyone! Nice hustle to those that got in Dec 1st! Yours is an envious position.

I am on the dreaded "Next to be Contacted" list. Does Louisville have a wait-list at this point or is everyone in the same NTBC group. How likely is it that I will be admitted?? (BTW, I know you can't give any definite answer to that question) Any stories that might build my confidence or bring me down to earth would be great. Especially if someone knows approx. how many of us are on the NTBC list.

Also, is there anything I should be doing to get an acceptance other than be patient? I'm of course going to continue my extracurricular and shadowing.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I have my former roommate's old books, and the entire stack from 4th year is about 1/2 inch tall. Thankfully, I'll be in the clinic in just one more semester!

*disclaimer: I make no promises

During a casual conversation with someone in admissions I was told that UofL holds some positions open until AT LEAST after they have finished interviews, which is still a couple of months away. They do this because they feel it is not productive to continue interviews if there are no spots available.

The NTBC list is not ranked, but instead the committee meets (I think weekly) and goes over the applicants when they find they have new openings (such as when someone declines their Dec 1st invitation). It is probably in your best interest to make a call every couple of weeks to make sure that the admissions office knows that Louisville is a school you want to attend and that you are still interested. Remember that these schools are aware that many people apply to multiple schools, and (of course) the applicants tell every school that "you're my #1 choice". By keeping in touch with the admissions they will be more aware of you when their meetings occur.

That being said, don't be annoying.

Also, if this is your first time applying, don't be shocked if you do not get accepted. With nearly 3000 applicants it has become more difficult to get accepted on your first attempt. There are many in my class who are more-than-once applicants. Good luck!

When I was at the school I forgot to ask this question. On the financial page they gave there was the price of tuition and a 6000 dollar equipment rental. I was wondering if this fee included books, scrubs, and other fees etc. or if all those fees are additional.

The fee does NOT include books. However, so far now (and from what I've heard from other classes) you do not need to buy many books since the course directors often give you a packet of notes to study from or will post notes online for you to print out. I bought an atlas and dissector for gross, DEFINITELY bought the Dental Anatomy book, but thats it so far. A lot of people bought histology books.

Scrubs- you are issued 5 pair of scrubs your first year. every year after they will give you 2 new pair of light blue scrubs. There is no additional fee for this.

There are a few other fees I'd say to factor in when doing your budget. Louisville ASDA dues, other groups, if you're going to buy loupes... etc.

Is it library? Do you have cafeteria?

Can anybody direct me to the site where I can learn more about Louisville, Kentucky? 🙂

that whole area in front of the school is kind of like a quad area. across the street its the medical school and research buildings. the building to the left (across the street if you are coming out of the school) is the library (kornhauser library to be exact.) there are also buildings for the nursing school, and PhD students around the area.

I think curriculum at U of Louisville is really focused on dental stuffs.

They seem to minimize their didactic courses, but maximize clinical training. Do you think my interpretation is correct?

Btw, let me ask a few more questions about curriculum at U of L.

a. What sorts of tests do you have? (Mid-term/Final?)

b. Do you think tests and courses are not staggered? (Do you feel comfortable at your class schedule?)

c. What is your estimated average board exam score & board pass rate?

d. When do you think the new construction of dental building will be completed? Exactly, what is under construction? What are you guys expecting from it?

e. Do you guys have digitalized curriculum? (Class aids, lecture note, blackboard system, web-learning, etc) Or do you have to take every note?

They want to train you to be a good dentist at Louisville. They may hold you to higher standards a little bit more in some of the dental classes, which I think is a good thing. In other words... don't be disappointed to make a C in DA lab.

Btw, let me ask a few more questions about curriculum at U of L.

a. What sorts of tests do you have? (Mid-term/Final?)

Exams vary from class to class. I'm only a first year so I only know what we've done in the summer and the fall. Most of the more intensive classes (Physiology, Histology, Gross Anatomy, Dental Anatomy) have around 3-4 tests. Some have quizzes, especially iClicker quizzes. The written tests have been scantron/ multiple choice and the practicals are writing down and identifying. There are other courses that will only have a final (Correlated Sciences) or will have a mid-term and a final (oral radiology.) Don't be afraid of those classes that ONLY have 1 test. Nobody failed them in our class.


b. Do you think tests and courses are not staggered? (Do you feel comfortable at your class schedule?)

I'm pretty comfortable with the class schedule. Yea you can gripe about how things are...and you may have a particularly "more full" week one week but I'd say you'll get that anywhere. There will be times when you feel overwhelmed but its nothing that you can't handle. BUT *disclaimer* I'm a 1st year...i'm sure there are some 2nd years in Path that would disagree with me.

c. What is your estimated average board exam score & board pass rate?

Can't think of it off the top of my head but I know its better than average. Also, since you'll be in c/o 2013 you will be taking Pass/Fail boards which have not been used yet.
d. When do you think the new construction of dental building will be completed? Exactly, what is under construction? What are you guys expecting from it?

I can say one thing and it'll change by the time I'm asked the question again. I don't know when it'll be done...will you be affected by the changes in your time there? yes. I've heard there will be new clinics before...i've heard a new lecture hall...not exactly sure about anything and thats probably what you'll hear from most students.

Yes to most of that. we do use blackboard and that is where you will download most of your lecture notes. Most people bring the lecture notes to class and then highlight and make their own notes to the side.
