**Official UOP status/interview thread 2011**

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
yes please tell me those are not just students from their 2+3 programs?

peerless? any insight?

From what I hear from friends, most January interview dates are filled with Pre-Dental students from UOP undergrad only. That isn't to say that they reserve those January spots solely for UOP Pre-Dents, but yeah...just a trend I've noticed.

Don't give up though! 👍

My friend has a "final review" update while mine still says "application complete allow 7-8 weeks for review". Does final review mean that they are about to make a decision on his application soon?

What high school stats do you need to get into UoP's 2+3 program? I'm a junior in high school, I have a 4.0 GPA (unweighted), top 5 in my class, and plenty of extracurriculars that interest me. I have yet to take the ACT, so what score should I aim for? Their website states you need a 31+ to apply to 2+3 and 3.7 GPA. Would a 31 suffice? I'll also consider the 3+3 program, and that's a bit easier to get into (29+ ACT, 3.6 GPA).

There have been at least two other threads about this 🙂

You sound like you should be fine.

Aim for perfect...study hard. I don't really get these kinds of questions. You can't really "aim" for a score. You will get the score you deserve. Would you study differently if you knew a specific score? Would the result really be that different?

all the links you can imagine on the first hit =)

Lol, thanks. That really did help me. Does anyone know what the acceptance rate into Pacific's dental school is for students in the 2+3 program? I heard you have to maintain some sort of GPA, score the average on the DAT, have a decent interview, and you're in. Anyone know the details?

Hey Doc, you should try contacting the school. Let's not hijack threads 😎

sooooo.........has anyone heard anything recently in terms of January interviews?

So my status was updated to review 7-8 week on 10/24. Any idea on how long it will really take for UoP to review my application and send an invite/rejection? Does it really take 2 months?

It depends. My status was updated on 9/9 and I still haven't received an invite or rejection. Some people who were updated the same day as me got a response a few days after the status update. I think it probably has to do with when you submitted your app or when your app was completed. My app was submitted late July and completed mid/late Aug vs others who submitted in early/mid June, so I think that's why it's taking longer for me.

oh UOP how I love thee.... It seems like Ill be getting a January interview now. 🙁

It would have been outstanding to gain admission Dec 1st into this amazing school.

By getting a response, do you mean an invite or a rejection?

I thouht they are done with their Pre-Dec and also most of their post Dec interviews is reserved for the UofP students!!

Not true about the post Dec interviews given only to UOP undergra students. I mean yes...most of the UOP undergrad students will get their interviews post Dec but....still that's only 30-35 spots (34 for my class). According to my classmates, a lot of pre-dec students who got interviewed at UOP end up going somewhere else and a really good number of students here got in AFTER Dec.

If they told you you're interviewing for a waitlist spot FOR SURE, then you're looking at a waitlist. If not than you're definitely still somebody who they want this year. We only interview who we want, if you got an interview and did well on the interview. You are going to get in this year doesn't matter what month it is post Dec....again, unless they told you you're interviewing for a waitlist spot. Hopfully that makes sense and give you guys more hope

Just got a call today for an interview on Jan 10 for an alternate spot :luck:. UOP is by far my top choice!!! It would have been a dream to gete a pre-Dec interview, but I'll take it! Sounds like I'll have to ace the interview, but I'm psyched for the opportunity.

Good luck to everyone!

congrats! when did you get the 6-8week review notice? I've been waiting since 10/8 so just wondering.

Hey danceitout!! congrats!!!

But.... what do you mean by 'alternate spot'? Is it a waiting list or something??

hum weird, my buddy also has an interview that day but they didnt tell him it's for an ALTERNATE spot.

Got a call from the 415 yesterday. Interview on Jan. 24. They didn't say alternate. They had open spots on the 13th and 20th but I wanted a Monday. Stoked.

Congratulation! My application has been under review since August. I almost lose my hope for this school now.

Did anyone's status changed? My status now says "On Hold"

waiting for NEW DAT & Grades. It was updated 10/28. Which is about 7 weeks from the last update everyone saw.

Are they waiting for my fall grades when the academic update period starts?

Hey guys, did some research on the probability of getting into UoP from the 2011 ADEA guide to dental schools. Not to be a downer, just to inject some reality, from the number of applicants vs. the number that get an interview/accepted, it's about a 3.6% chance if I remember correctly from the library yesterday. Don't get me wrong, I love this school, really want to go, this is my 3rd time applying there, but thinking no matter how good your stats, it's veerrryy difficult to get and interview/accepted there. I'm hopeful and continue to follow up with them and send updates, but realistically expecting more attention from my other apps.

I think "alternate" means wait list. I'm not totally sure how this works though. Anyone have any insight?

Just got the call!!! They gave me options for January 20 or January 24. Good luck to everyone else.:soexcited::soexcited::banana:

me too!! I'm so excited!! They didn't tell me that I was an alternate. But someone else earlier in this thread said they got a Jan 10th interview as an alternate? What did they tell you?

I think its an urban myth that UoP looks favorably on high PAT scores. I've lost hope with this school. At least I was interviewed by my 1st choice🙂

Wow, that's not even funny. Disapproving of the curriculum is one thing...generalizing and insulting the actual people is another. Sounds like someone is blaming the system for their own failures. +pity+

Like I said...I just stumbled upon the urbandictionary.com entry and found it humerous🙂. It's a good reputable institution which is why I applied.
I don't consider not receiving an interview a "failure". I've put together a decent dental school application and have interviewed elsewhere. I obviously don't have what UoP looking for in an applicant. Life goes on. Best of luck Dec 1!

Oh, I wasn't referring to you--I was talking about the person who actually wrote that "definition"

Good luck to you, too! And I wouldn't give up hope--there are still interview dates to be given out 🙂

my apologies...misinterpretation on my part:idea:

I've heard from people in past cycles that UoP has strange/unpredictable admissions habits.... so who knows what they're looking for. I have high RC and PAT scores (and high DAT scores in general), fairly high GPA from a strong undergrad institution, etc., and still haven't heard from them.

They didn't say anything about being an alternate, but any interview after Dec. 1 probably makes you an alternate. They'll fill up their seats with Pre-December applicants, and then see what's left for the rest of us.

Pacific just likes high DAT especially with reading comp, PAT, ochem, bio, gen chem....haha well taht's pretty much all of the sections except for the math section. What's most important is your AA and with no sections below a 17. Math is an exception for that, none of the dental schools really even consider QR as an important section. In fact, some schools don't even calculate QR into their DAT calculations.
