I just wanted to address the last couple posts from the previous thread.

Jezzielin,
you definitely have an advantage, especially with the letters you are sending out. Talking with Dr. Wise will also give you an advantage in my opinion. No one knows how the LECOM waitlist is cracked, as they won't tell you where on the waitlist you are. They do put people in high, medium and low waitlists, so if you interviewed early and you are on the high waitlist, then you should get off. I haven't seen stats (since LECOM doesn't release anything) regarding how many people are on the waitlist or how many people get off, but getting your name out there will only help.
About a waitisted class of 2010 thread, it brings comfort to know many others are in the same situation and much information can be shared. I'm all for it! Keep your head up and keep working on clinical experience and extracurriculars this semester!

Thanks for the info, Jschro. I am glad to know that I might have an advantage. I did apply early but as far as being on "high" on the waitlist, I don't know. I wish I knew where I stood.

I did call Dr. Wise and left a message basically saying, "Hi, my name is Jezzielin. I had an early interview in September and I was wondering if I could just have a minute of your time to hopefully get some advice from you."... that kinda thing. GRRRR - now that I think about it, I don't think I mentioned the word "waitlist". 😱 Oy, well I got my name out there and I will probably end up calling again anyway.

Jezzielin,
Do you mind me asking what your stats and extracurriculars are?
thanks, and good luck!! I hope you get off the waitlist soon

Sure, Gobeavers. Here are my ECs:

*I have volunteered for many years in multiple departments at 3 different hospitals (moving from home to school each year caused me to volunteer at multiple places).

*I have shadowed physicians in many fields: IM, ER, OB/GYN, surgery, FP, etc.

*I have been in clubs: pre-medical clubs (MD and DO), medical ethics club where I held a position of the PR Coordinator. I have done others, but many are small and non-medical related otherwise, but there are others.

*I have been part of many organizations: Fanconi Anemia Cancer Camp for kids. I did that for two years (so incredibly life changing), as well as working at my local Head Start organization.

*This past semester I have taken up being a tutor to foreign students in English communication skills.

*I have been a lifeguard for many years, certified in that, CPR, and First Aid and for fun I did a triathlon.

I think that is about it...

Do you have any other current applications still pending?

Yes, BrettBatchelor I do have a few. I applied not knowing my MCAT score so I made a mistake with applying to a few schools, little "reachy". But I am pretty postive this school is my best chance. I was thinking I should send in the secondary for PCOM, but it is probably too late. I left it up at school so I don't know if I should bother doing it when I get back this weekend.

I interviewed at TUCOM-CA on November 22 and was placed on the medium waitlist. Dr. Haight, the Admissions Director was pretty candid about the school and said that most people get off the high waitlist, and last year was the first year everyone didn't. As for the medium waitlist, some have got off of it in the past, but chances are not good percentage-wise. One hopeful key is the TUCOM-CA offers an early acceptance program where anyone placed on the waitlist who was not offered a seat by the time term starts will be reviewed a final time by the Admissions Committee whether or not they should be admitted as an early acceptance for the following year's class. Apparantly, they are pretty generous, offering about 35 seats through early decision last year.

I look forward to interviewing at CCOM on Jan 17 and LECOM-Erie on Feb 23 and hopefully will get an acceptance somewhere! Good luck everyone!

I just had a general waitlist question. If a school does not have a ranked waitlist - how does it work?

Thanks. 🙂

I would think that all schools have some method of sorting out the waitlisted candidates, even if they don't tell you. At the end of the Admissions process, they may tentatively select the top five or ten students who would come off the waitlist first, and then the Admissions Committee would re-review each candidates file to select more as needed. Just a thought

Yeah and Jezzlin- at LECOM they said they would review all of the applications on the waitlist when a spot opened up and look for the strongest one.

See, they told me that they review would review my app at the meetings. So I could know at anytime. 😕 This makes me doubt my chances. I know I am not at the top.

If its not ranked, they may do it randomly at meetings. Read files. Ohhh look at this kid here. Hes fun. Good Scores. LOI. lets call him.

At least what ive heard about umdnj-som.

At this point, they very well may wait until the end of April or May to re-review your file. Spots that open up now will most likely be offered for forthcoming interview candidates. Keep your head up! I have a feeling it will happen for you! 🙂

Well hopefully if they are not looking at my file now, when they do they will have letters, phone calls and whatever else up the hoohaa and be impressed with my persistance...

It could happen :scared:

I am starting to look at theri post-bac program, or something to do in case I do not get in this year. Not sure what I am gonna do quite yet. 😕

Okay, new question. Is it true that LECOM doesn't like to take in minorities? On my application I put White under race and Mexican American under ethnicity.

I have heard from a few people this. Is this true, could this hurt my chances? 😕

Just another punch in the gut 🙁

Well, I hope that is not true about ANY school. On a positive note, I am sending out my letter to refuse my seat at LECOM today, so, theres another open spot!

If something in the file is pending, like LORs or MCAT scores you are put on hold. I was, then when I got complete I was put on the waitlist. I think this is what you are talking about. 🙂

jamers,

When did you interview, and when did you receive your acceptance letter? And to what pathway were you accepted?

Thanks!

Jezzielin,

All schools love URMs. It gives them great bragging rights. I'm curious though- what is your percentage of Mexican American blood? I heard you cannot be considered a minority unless you are at least 25%.

Dr.Trek, I'm am over 25%, so no worries. I guess don't think that this is a factor to worry about, but who knows.

But I just wanted to bump, for those waitlisted anywhere! Good luck everyone! :luck: 🙂

I interviewed in November 4th and was accepted on Christmas Eve. No where on either of my letters does it say what pathway I was accepted into so I guess that means I am in the lecture based. I sent in my letter to refuse my seat a while ago...so another seat open!
