I just wanted to address the last couple posts from the previous thread.
Jezzielin,
you definitely have an advantage, especially with the letters you are sending out. Talking with Dr. Wise will also give you an advantage in my opinion. No one knows how the LECOM waitlist is cracked, as they won't tell you where on the waitlist you are. They do put people in high, medium and low waitlists, so if you interviewed early and you are on the high waitlist, then you should get off. I haven't seen stats (since LECOM doesn't release anything) regarding how many people are on the waitlist or how many people get off, but getting your name out there will only help.
About a waitisted class of 2010 thread, it brings comfort to know many others are in the same situation and much information can be shared. I'm all for it! Keep your head up and keep working on clinical experience and extracurriculars this semester!
Thanks for the info, Jschro. I am glad to know that I might have an advantage. I did apply early but as far as being on "high" on the waitlist, I don't know. I wish I knew where I stood.
I did call Dr. Wise and left a message basically saying, "Hi, my name is Jezzielin. I had an early interview in September and I was wondering if I could just have a minute of your time to hopefully get some advice from you."... that kinda thing. GRRRR - now that I think about it, I don't think I mentioned the word "waitlist".
😱 Oy, well I got my name out there and I will probably end up calling again anyway.
Jezzielin,
Do you mind me asking what your stats and extracurriculars are?
thanks, and good luck!! I hope you get off the waitlist soon
Sure, Gobeavers. Here are my ECs:
*I have volunteered for many years in multiple departments at 3 different hospitals (moving from home to school each year caused me to volunteer at multiple places).
*I have shadowed physicians in many fields: IM, ER, OB/GYN, surgery, FP, etc.
*I have been in clubs: pre-medical clubs (MD and DO), medical ethics club where I held a position of the PR Coordinator. I have done others, but many are small and non-medical related otherwise, but there are others.
*I have been part of many organizations: Fanconi Anemia Cancer Camp for kids. I did that for two years (so incredibly life changing), as well as working at my local Head Start organization.
*This past semester I have taken up being a tutor to foreign students in English communication skills.
*I have been a lifeguard for many years, certified in that, CPR, and First Aid and for fun I did a triathlon.
I think that is about it...
Do you have any other current applications still pending?
Yes, BrettBatchelor I do have a few. I applied not knowing my MCAT score so I made a mistake with applying to a few schools, little "reachy". But I am pretty postive this school is my best chance. I was thinking I should send in the secondary for PCOM, but it is probably too late. I left it up at school so I don't know if I should bother doing it when I get back this weekend.
