sorry dont mean to be melodramatic and all but i just finished a kaplan FL and my score was horrible!!! a 20, **** am freaking out rite now, and this is after i have done my content review so am not sure what is going on here, i think my main problem is analyzing the passage..i guess critical thinking esp under timed conditions... i am so distraught wit this cos i am tired of doing content review and not translatingit over to the pracice test...granted i have only taken one.. i planned on taking the test in sept but apparently i may have to psotpone till next year damn!!!. N e how n e one wit some input /advice on what i could do to bring it up..**** at this stage i would be happy wit a 30, has n e one had the same issue, if so what did u do different??? thanks in advance

if that was your very first practice test, then don't worry too much. go over that practice test completely and see why you got questions wrong, AND see why you got questions right.

how pressed for time were you? most people who aren't used to the mcat format spend way too much time trying to "figure out" the passage. the thing you always need to have in mind is that the mcat tests basic concepts. you will eventually become skilled at extracting relevant info from the passage relating to the basic concept at hand.

bottom line is: take practice test, and always self-evaluate. focusing on your weaknesses is going to be higher yield in terms of raising your score.

I got a 25 on my first one--lower than my diagnostic! 30 on the second, 35 on the third and it consistently stayed in that range (both Kaplan and AAMC) by the time I took my MCAT. (Hopefully it did on the real thing too--maybe the scores will be out tomorrow.) So don't despair.

For a morale booster, take some AAMC practice tests after a couple of the Kaplans--you may get a much higher score. (Access these from the Kaplan menu, which takes you to the AAMC website to take the test without needing a password.) After my 25 and 30 on Kaplan, I took AAMC 3 and 4 and got 36's, which made me feel MUCH better. After that, even the Kaplan scores shot up.

Just remember, Kaplan is good practice, but it's HARDER than the AAMCs (which are actual past MCATs). The real MCAT seems like it's getting somewhat harder than the practice tests, but it's still easier than Kaplan.

Good luck, and don't lose your self-confidence.

Ok so first and foremost, RELAX! 🙂 Put things in perspective: this is your first practice test, and for the majority of us, a low score is somewhat expected. Look at it this way: it's not the real one, and you just got your first freaking out moment out of the way...congratulations; it's all uphill from here! 🙂

So, what to do from now on: PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE!! Reviewing information is useless on the MCATs unless you can put that information to use...and you'll see, the more practice problems you do, the more you'll catch yourself reviewing key concepts anyways, while picking up question patterns and working on timing. So drop the review books and pick up as many practice problems as you can! I recommend any Kaplan material you can get your hands on (preferably the stuff any of your buddies that took the kaplan review course can get you) sprinkled with AAMC practice tests. Make sure that every exam you take however you take your time reviewing it afterwards and going over all the problems you missed, understanding why miss them and making notes if necessary. Only go back to your review notes to confirm a problem or to go over those concepts that you lack, but don't waste time re-reading your whole book becuase believe it or not, you know way more than you'll ever give yourself credit for...studying for this thing is a stressful, and emotionally and physically draining process, so know that you will have your bad days, but don't give up! In the end, you'll be fine, and you'll rock it!

GOOD LUCK! 🙂

thanks guys!! i took the day doing fun mcat unrelated things...i definately will be reviewing the practice test tomorrow.... hopefully things will start looking up real soon
