Excellent! Thanks! He was super nice! I guess I was even more stressed and nervous than I realized, given how little I remember from the whole affair!

I don't think that's who you had. Dr. Hoet is the Program Coordinator for my Master of Public Health in Veterinary Public Health program. He is in the Veterinary Preventive Medicine Department and does research on MRSA and other zoonotic diseases. If public health veterinary medicine is an area of interest for anyone, I highly suggest talking to him. His program is wonderful and it is possible to graduate with your DVM/MPH in 5 years.

That's what I meant DVM/MPH not PhD. Duh, EllieG. lol I don't know if he does interviews anymore, but I know he's done them in the past which is why I thought it might be him.

I'm trying not to have a meltdown. Heh. I just keep finding out about more IS people who have gotten in already and just continue to think about those IS seats dwindling away. I really need to stop "studying" my application and the Merck Veterinary Manual and go to bed.

I'm so glad you got in, G2D!

Now I'm off to bed so I can get up early and head to the airport in the am. Really looking forward to seeing the school.

I really can't believe that this is all coming true for me! I really, really, loved OSU, so depending on how the next few weeks play out, I could definitely see myself as a Buckeye!

Thanks for all your good thoughts and encouragement! This has been a wonderful point of light in an otherwise crappy week.

Fingers crossed for all those still interviewing and waiting!

👍👍👍 SO HAPPY for you!! 😍

Sorry for the delay! I ended up playing lots of phone tag today (since I can't get calls during the day) so I didn't know for sure that I was ACCEPTED until around lunch. And I can't (or at least shouldn't so I don't) get on SDN from work, and my cell phone doesn't work in my building, and blah, blah, blah. Sorry to keep you all in suspense!

YAY G2D!!!!

:highfive::clap::highfive:

And everyone else - I know you'll kick some keister at those interviews!

OK then, back to sx....

In just a little more than 3 hours it will be over. Oh dear lord I hope I can stop shaking. I didn't know it was possible to be this scared.

Don't be scared Ellie.... you will rock this interview.

Congrats G2D!

Fly safe Livestock!

I woke up giddy. One more day! Driving to Columbus tonight..... good luck everyone!

Driving out to Columbus starting now! I'm so excited!!!

Just an FYI... all those coming to Columbus and driving... there is a ban on texting while driving. It's dangerous to do while driving.... but in Columbus if you get caught, it'll cost you (to the tune of $150).....

Didn't know if many OOS (or non Columbus dwellers) knew that... but thought it might be good to pass along.

All done. I don't feel good at all. I guess if I think about it I had some decent answers but my mouth was dry and I think I said um a lot. It's a total toss up.

I'm sure you did great! Got my fingers crossed for you!

I'm with penny. I'm certain they saw thru your nervousness to the bright 'n' shiny person who belongs at their school. 😀
Best of luck (not that you need it, eh?)

I can't speak for the other acceptees (is that a word?) but I was FREAKING out before I went upstairs. Gone2dogs was sitting in her chair with her hands in her lap, looking very calm, and I was so fidgety it must have looked kinda weird. Don't overanalyze it. I felt really good coming out of my interview but as I was sitting in the lobby with all the other people talking about their interviews and their experiences I started to feel less and less starry eyed. Take a deep breath and pat yourself on the back because you're done!

EllieG - I'm sure you did SUPER!! EVERYONE is bound to be a little :scared: going into something like that; and I'm sure that the interviewers know it. I'm also sure that your passion for vet med shined through, and that should be all that matters.

To be honest, I've almost concluded that vet schools interview people just to be sure that they're who the say they are and that they don't have two heads. I'm feeling pretty certain that you cleared both of those without issue. 🙂

Will wait patiently to congratulate you in the coming days... 😉

Thanks guys. I have calmed down a little and realized that my answers were pretty good even if my delivery was a bit shaky. Overall the day was pretty good if not exhausting. I met squibby who is just lovely. We made a trip to the book store where she bought her first OSU shirt and Buckeye candy! So now I guess....I wait.

EllieG,
Did you get asked about prop 2 or that new committee that Ohio put together? It seems like that was popular last year, but no one has mentioned it this year.

Nope I was told to list 5 current events that related to vet med and expand on one. I mentioned issue 2 but chose to extrapolate on a dofferent issue. The questions were all very general andi had anticipated the vast majority of them.

Haha! If it is any consolation, I didn't notice you squirming! I was only calm on the outside myself... inside I was freaking out!

And EllieG - I experienced the most dry mouth I have ever had during my interview. I had no idea my body even reacted that way to nerves! I have convinced myself that there is no way for the interviewers to know your mouth is dry 😀.

Fingers crossed for everyone. Let us know how your day goes tomorrow LSD!

LOL except for the fact that with no saliva in my mouth I got tongue tied a bit and when I spoke my tongue made these horrible clicky noises as it stuck and unstuck to all the surfaces of my mouth.

I am having the oddest mix of emotions right now. I'm relieved that it's done, pissed that I feel like I might have blown it, and I keep thinking about my answers and how nervous I was and I feel kind of stupid. I wish that my interviewers had been a little more friendly, but I guess that's not what they're there for. I wish that they would have given me SOMETHING, told me to relax or been a little more personable. Honestly, the interview felt very disconnected and mechanical for me. It wasn't like a conversation at all. They read the questions off a piece of paper, listened to my answer, waited a few seconds in awkward silence to make sure I was finished, and then said "okay" and moved along to the next question.

I guess we'll find out in the next few weeks. Dr. Sanders said that the adcomm is meeting on Tuesday and the majority of acceptances will be sent out before Christmas, although they will continue to send them out into January. No rejections will be sent out before the New Year.

Good luck to everyone else who still has to interview.

Finally made it to OSU.... the drive took almost 10 hours (much more that I thought it would be, or else I would've flown), I have a horrible migraine, and I can't remember any of the preparation that I've done the last few weeks. I'm starting to get really worried :/

I missed you to say goodbye! Good luck EllieG, thanks for the company.

So sorry about that!! My dad was so ready to get out of there and he started walking away but I didn't want to interrupt your conversation with our tour guide. Thank YOU for the company too!

Finally in Columbus! This all still seems so surreal to me. I did a mock interview with myself for the car ride down here.... time to get a good night's sleep and kick some arse in the am.

Hey Guys! I just wanted to share my experience for those who still have interviews left to attend. Overall I thought the interview was very casual. It almost felt like we were just having a conversation. They said they have specific questions they are required to ask all the applicants, which are pretty common interview questions. Then they asked me some specific questions regarding my application. So, if you listed something that you said you were able to do make sure you can talk about it. I felt pretty good about my interview afterwards, it definitely was not as hard as I expected. However, now I just keep thinking about some of the things I said and i'm thinking "ugh, why did I say that?". Oh well, all I can do now is wait. Hope this helps some of the people who have yet to interview!
Good Luck everyone! :luck:

EllieG,

I was asked about this.. and had to talk further about animal welfare vs. animal rights

She told our group that the majority of invites would be sent out in mid Jan.. and that only the very high end exceptional students would be accepted before christmas. And that there would be no rejections until the "early" rejections right after christmas.. Maybe I miss understood.. it sure would be nice to no before mid jan

I wasn't asked about it.

Seriously EllieG's list of Q's saved my butt, because I got almost half of them.

Good luck to those of you interviewing tomorrow. The worst part is really what we do to ourselves mentally afterward.

See, I didn't get these at all....I got zoonoses out the whazoo!! Freakin' cholera epidemic in Haiti!

Haha aww what a nugget Impanbutr is...

Oh, and my fly was down my entire interview. I discovered it about 15 minutes afterward.
Because dreaming about that kind of thing happening just wasn't enough.

I wasn't asked about ANY zoonoses!!! But I did mention the cholera epicemic in Haiti as one of my current events. I think I was only asked about that b/c I also used it as my current events, then we went into stuff about HSUS and how they are crazy!! and we talked about Dr. Tony Forshey and the board members

HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAH!!!! Good thing there was a table blocking it from the interviewers!:laugh::laugh:

well at least they didn't totally call you out on your sweaty hands or blotchy red neck

Oh and I must say THANKS ELLIE G!! B/c you totally helped me (and everyone else on here) with your notes!!👍

Haha aww what a nugget Impanbutr is...

When she asked what was the epidemic of significant concern in Haiti right now, I went blank!😱 Then I started going through everything I could think of and cholera popped into my head!! I said "Cholera! It's Cholera, right?!" She said yes, I raised both arms in triumph....and then she followed with "And what is it that makes this particular strain of such concern to the World Health Org?":smack: Awww, man!

This is interesting...maybe squibby can weigh in. She was at the same presentation as I was.

Ok.... 45 min till my interview.....

.....perhaps two cups of coffee was a BAD thing...

Dang man, I want an interview where I can talk about Cholera. *pout*

You and me both! I would LOVE an interview where I could talk about Cholera, Malaria, Leptospirosis, Piron diseases, etc... It would be a dream come true.

I pout with you...

I heard what EllieG wrote, and would add that no rejections would be sent out before the holidays, only most of the acceptances. She def. said they are meeting Tuesday to make the decisions.

Because it's not the El Tor strain like they expected!

I think what actually caused concern though is that this particular strain actually expresses a more virulent cholera toxin than the Latin American strain they were assuming to be the cause...not just that it's a different strain in general.

This was totally epic.

*squibby and EllieG pull into the parking garage by the bookstore*

Squibby: OMG I think my fly was down my ENTIRE interview.

EllieG: :lame:.........😆

Well EllieG I'm just glad that you (and your dad) were very nice, and I felt super comfortable with you guys, otherwise I the whole "fly" issue might have been more upsetting. 🙂

Sent good thoughts in your general direction earlier (including that your bladder held out!! 😉).

I'm sure you did GREAT!! But, still looking forward to hearing the 411!
