I got an interview with them on the 12th. I wanted the Feb 13th date but by the time I decided to attend, the date was filled. I am flying out from FL. Good luck to all!

AMP - where else have you applied/ what are your stats? I'm just trying to match myself up with other students that have been selected for interview

I interviewed 1/29 and was accepted today! I'd be happy to answer any questions.

The interview process and the school really impressed me! but the weather......I'm a southern kid, I'm not afraid of leaving home, but I am a little scared of the winter. so I'm really debating what I should do.......
but yea, besides the weather, OSU is definitely my # 1 choice 😀

Thats awesome - congrats to all of you that got in. My interview is next weekend - and if I get accepted :xf: I will be going there in the fall.

Do any of you know the odds of getting in after being interviewed? I've heard that they are conservative about offering interview invites - but they offer invites of acceptance to 85% of those that interviewed at the school. Anyone have any info about that?

Im friends with someone from ATL in our class. While Ohio weather does suck (our saying is usually, "if you dont like the weather just wait 10 minutes") its really not that bad. Winters can be cold, snowy, and sometimes very much a pain in the butt because no one knows how to drive here (especially in the snow). If that is you, i.e. you cant drive in snow, I would recommend you find someplace on south campus to live. Its a very short walk to campus, generally affordable, and a nice neighborhood.

Anyone going to Ohio State for an interview this weekend? I have mine on Saturday 2/13

I applied to 8 schools - LECOM, PBA, Mercer, Shenandoah, OSU, UF, South and Nova. I didn't bother filling out the supplementals to Mercer and PBA. Got interview invites for 5 of them and I am still waiting on UF invite.

Stats are 3.35 GPA, 79 PCAT (my RC was ridiculously low and bought down my overall)

Good Luck to everyone for the interview and hopefully see you on the 12th.

OSU sent me an interview recently, but I still need quant and microbiology lab, if I am accepted, will my admission depend on the completion of these prereqs?? Thanks

One thing I have noticed across the boards - is the strict adherence to pre-req courses. I even received an acceptance letter recenlty that contained the courses I have to complete to guarentee my seat. I would take the pre-req's for sure if OSU is your top choice.

I was also surprised when I saw that Ohio State required Quant Chem - that's a pretty hard course and I only took it because of my Biochem major. I would imagine that most bio majors would stay clear of applying to Ohio State just to avoid that class. In the same respect - I think that the candidates applying to OSU have stronger science backgrounds (in chemistry and biochem) which says a lot about the school itself and a lot about the caliber of students applying/accepted.

I just got back from my OSU interview and fell in love with the campus. Never saw snow before so it hit me pretty hard when I got outta the airport. But I wouldn't mind one bit living in the snow if I decide to attend.

What did everyone think about the interview? I thought it was pretty laid back and very short.

I am missing three courses from the prerequisite (Calc 2, A&P2 and Analytical Chem). I am surprised they required Calc 2 and A Chem. Unfortunately, USF doesn't offer Achem in summer so I may have to move to OSU in summer before matriculation (if I get accepted that is)

I was at OSU for my interview this past weekend as well and I definitely loved the school and campus. I'm glad to hear that you liked it to because I've been having regrets not applying to some of the other top schools in Cali (with campuses in warm locations) How would you compare OSU with some of the other reputable pharm schools you've seen around the country?

I applied and was accepted at the University of Minnesota. To be honest OSU is similar in size and set up as Minnesota, since both are Big 10 schools, obviously in the midwest. The academics, extracurriculars, and clinical opportunities are all practically even.
I used to live in California, then Minnesota, now Ohio, so I've experienced the difference in "culture". Its nice to have different seasons and experience the snow sports.

I keep refreshing my email hoping for an invite 🙁🙁🙁

Accepted!! got my confirmation this afternoon 😀

Accepted!! got my confirmation this afternoon 😀

Congratulations! I also interviewed on 2/13 and just got my acceptance today! Is OSU your top choice cuz I'm for sure going here!

Ok, guys. I'm a graduating P4 at OSU. Congrats to those who got accepted. It's a top 5 school and is a nice feather in your cap, so don't blow it by partying too hard once school starts! 🙂

Few answers:

(1) pre-reqs. OSU is one of the first to require 4 years undergrad before admission. You have to finish those pre-reqs before classes starts. You can do pre-reqs locally or come to OSU early in the summer to finish it off here. It's probably cheaper to do it in your own state, just make sure the school you are doing it is ok (run it past Heather).

(2) yes, the campus is nice, but don't expect to spend too much doting around it. 90% of your time will in Parks hall in room 103, 105. By your P3 year, you'll know how many rolls of seats and how many ceiling tiles in those rooms. Sorry fellas, that's a pharmacy student's life.

One of piece of info for those not from Columbus. The best place to live is south campus (south of 12th, west of high). Be sure to stay couple of blocks west of High street to steer clear of the ghetto. Living around 8-9th and neil means less than 15 minutes walking to Parks hall, and saves you from buying the expensive parking permit. Rent runs around $500/mo for 1 bedroom. $650 for 2 bedrooms.

For your P1 year, don't bother buying books. Everything your need will be in the notes online or from CopEZs.

Good luck.

Congrats!! I got mine also! Happy that a Top 5 accepted me. I haven't really research any other top school except UNC. I couldn't make the deadline for UNC so thats that.

I'm from CA also. So then what are the strengths and weaknesses about the programs at OSU and MN that you've witnessed? What's up with the paper at the end of the year at MN?

To me both OSU and MN have very similar programs. Both are very large Midwestern universities, therefore have unlimited resources and access to different opportunities, from research, to jobs, and pharmacy experiences.
Both have very strong experiential components, at some of the best medical centers in the nation, from the get go.
Since both are on very thriving undergraduate campuses, there are a lot of perks, from great college sports to organizations to dabble in.

In terms of weaknesses, it really comes to personal preference. Some may see a huge campus as a distraction and overwhelming when starting a pharmd program.
Twin Cities is a very bustling city, so one has to contend with traffic and congestion, and Columbus has a lot of people on one campus as well.
let me know if you have any more questions!

I have a little bit of a dilemma...what would you guys do?

Ohio and UB are my top 2 choices. I have an interview with Ohio scheduled for March 12th. I just got accepted to UB yesterday and they want me to decide by March 8th. I'm in-state for UB, so tuition would be infinitely cheaper. But...Ohio!!...great school too! Going to interview will cost me about $1000. Any thoughts?

Congratulations on UB! I don't think money should be the primary issue for you here. I was in kind of in a similar situation where I was accepted to one of my top choices before interviewing at OSU. I'm really glad that I followed through with my interview at OSU though because they have such a great program, better living conditions for me personally, and is better financially for me too. If you went to OSU, you would only have to pay out of state tuition for one year (it only takes a year to get residency) so the financial sit shouldn't be TOO bad for you. Honestly, I would put the deposit down for UB and go to your interview at OSU so you can compare the program. Don't you think it's better to explore your options instead of limiting yourself? It would suck to look back and wonder "what if.." So yeah it sucks that you'll have to front the UB deposit, pay for your flight to OH, and possibly pay for one year of out of state tuition, but once at least you'll know for sure what you liked best and you'll make enough money with your degree after that the money you spend now is so trivial. 🙂

Good luck with everything. Hope that helped!

i just received an interview invite for next month, but i dont know if its worth going, its late in the admissions cycle, im out state, its far, and imo there just isnt that many seats left to bother at this point, and im already accepted at another school so im not desperate for acceptance right now, obviously they didnt ask me to go sooner because my app wasnt that great lol... any advice? what would you do in this situation?

I went for my interview this past saturday even though I do not have high expectations and I was also accepted at another school like yourself (I am also out of state). It's pretty much guaranteed that if you go, you will really like the school. It just depends on your confidence level on getting accepted really because I personally loved the school. Whether I get in or not, I am glad i went.

Yes, I remember you talking about the seven hour flight or something like that to one of the students

Does OSU tape their lectures so I can watch them later to review?

The students that gave my group the tour said they are audio recorded and the powerpoints are put up online.

A majority of the lectures are "captured". This is done using software that records whatever is on the computer screen (generally the powerpoint, along with pointing done with the mouse) along with recording the audio using a microphone. I found this incredibly useful, especially if you miss a lecture and need to go back and watch it. Not all of the teachers use this, although a majority of them do. Sadly, your 7:30am Physio class won't capture the lectures :-(

Any other questions, just ask!

I completed the supplemental application around early november and I got an invitation to interview today for April 23! Since so much time had passed I thought they didn't want me. I am so surprised
How many spots are still open? Do you think I still have a chance this late?

The one negative about OSU for me is that I still have to complete one pre-req (analytical chemistry lab)
Does nayone know generally how long it takes to get an acceptance/wait list denial once you interview? It seems people in this thread have heard fast but does everyone? I would like to plan if I would have to take the class during the summer (it is not required for anywhere else I am applying). I checked and the course is not offered in the summer at my school or at most schools in the area (I checked a couple and they only offer general chemistry in the summer). So the only way I would be able to take the class would be if I went to OSU in the summer - which isn't that far away.

They make the decision on the weekend of interviews that following week and notify you through e-mail. I interviewed on a saturday and found out by wednesday 👍

I have a quick question. I know that Cincinnati is making the switch from the quarter system to the semester system. Is OSU going to do that too or are they saying on the quarter system?

OSU will also make the switch to the semester system

OSU's pharmcas page said interviews are from november to march. That's why I was really surprised to gt an invite. Anyone else have an invite for the 23rd? It seems like a lot of people have been accepted since it is so late in the application cycle. I wonder how many spots are still available

Hey- I just got the email for the interview too! I am absolutely floored- in a good way! I just hope that they are really still considering applicants so late in the game. My stats are GPA 3.42, PCAT 87 pharm tech at kroger for 3 years...I want to go to OSU more than anything! I am so nervous though, I mean I don't know what to do to prepare. Any suggestions or info from those who already interviewed and were accepted?

If you check out the interview feedback, you can see what types of questions they ask you. I wasn't asked anything different from what other students said they were asked. Also, they only asked me about 3 questions, so that part of my interview was short, but I came prepared with a lot of questions to ask them and I recommend you do the same. Good luck!

Can any students tell me about the typical class schedule for the first year? How long do classes run? Do you have labs in the first year? What electives can you take? What are the unique rotations sites the school offers? What are your opinions about the curriculum and the school so far? How has your experience been so far?

miza17- thanks for the advice! At the risk of sounding stupid- what do you mean by interview feedback? Is it on this site? I already go to OSU for undergrad and I'm in the BSPS program so I'm not sure how many questions I will have but I will definitely try to think of some.

At the very top of the page, there is a bar that has 'Home', 'Bookstore', 'Interview Feedback', etc. Click interview feedback and you should be able to locate the school and thus the questions. Hope that helps.

Ok I found it. It looks really helpful. Definitely going to make my friends and family ask me those questions this weekend. Thanks!

No problem. Good luck with your interview. I put down a deposit for OSU but then got into my school of choice so there will be an open seat 🙂!
