Ohio State University pushed their pharmcas deadline to January 5th, 2010. I didn't apply to the school, but now I'm thinking I might. Does anyone have any information on the average PCAT score for acceptance?
Also, out of curiosity🙂, any ideas on why the deadline changed?

Average PCAT score was around an 80 I believe for the the entering class this year. They told us that the average GPA was "well above a 3.5". You should definitely consider the school!

I'm sorry to say this to whoever told you that, but if that is indeed true (and there is not reason for them to lie) but when you say well above 3.5, to me that implies 3.9 or 4.0.

Otherwise, its not *well* above, its slightly higher than.

If they had said well above 3.0, then that would have been different, possibly implying a 3.7 or 3.8.

Yeah I saw the e-mail as well. You think they pushed it back a month because they didn't receive as many qualified applicants they would have liked? 🙁

We were told that during orientation by a member of the admissions committee IIRC. I have met people that had gpa's around 3.3 (didnt really ask for people's stats lol) so I doubt it's anywhere near 4.0. I remember the averages that were posted on the PharmCAS website last year being a 3.55 GPA and an 85 PCAT. I don't think they would have done it because of a lack of qualified applicants, but it may be the case. I think generally about half of the class did their undergrad here, so I would hope they have received at least 200 "qualified" apps by now. If you are really interested you could try calling Joe, can't hurt 🙂

I'm the OSU College of Pharmacy Senator, so I can gloat while also shedding light on the subject!

Here's info about the class 2013:

Average PCAT: 83
Average GPA: 3.56

Amount of applicants last year: ~800
Amount of interview invitations: ~200 (25%)
Amount of interviewees accepted: ~ 170 (85%)
Amount matriculated: ~130

There aren't any weird course requirements outside the norm, but i'm 99% sure that you have to have a bachelor's before you can attend.

Bachelor's degree is required. Analytical Chem I is a required course that I did not see any other schools requiring.

Yeah, it isn't the most fun. For any potential applicants: don't worry if you haven't completed achem or anatomy yet. You are allowed to take courses the summer before matriculation, and OSU offered both of these courses during the summer (I think microbiology too). I would guess that they are going to do the same next summer, but you may want to check with the school just to be on the safe side. Other than that there aren't too many prereqs besides the bachelor's requirement.

Hey - thanks for the figures - it definitely helps. But question - how are you a pharmacy school senator if you just got accepted?

Also do you know why they pushed back their deadline? My understanding is that many schools plan to push their deadlines back - with the interest of getting a majority of students to apply early and to ensure that well-qualified students don't miss the plan deadline for random problems (late transcripts, LORS, etc)
