I'm out here. I don't know much about the schools....got a friend at VCU and he absolutely loves it.

If it was me I would go to the least expensive.......I'm sure that this is a concept that you have already considered though.

depends, if you're a cool kid then OSU for sure! if you're gay go to VCU! OSU is a nice school, sure there pre-clinic is a little old but all you need is a flame and wax anyways, so that's not really that big of a factor. other than that OSU has a nice program. The ohio project your senior year allows you to do 4 handed dentistry for 60 consecutive days!! When it comes down to which school to attend......every school will provide you the oppertunity to be a great dentist, the difference between any school is all up to you. how prepared you are depends on how hard you work in dental school. Therefore, go to the school that will be the cheapest for you. This is OSU for me and it also has the most uplifting (FUN) atmosphere of all the dental schools i've seen!

So, does this make you a homophobe?
For what it matters, I didn't notice any flamers at VCU.

It's actually just 60 days during your fourth year...not consecutive days. It can be for a week or two at a time if your out of Columbus. The closer sites are a day or two here and there. But still, 60 days is quite a bit of time. I've talked to some 4th years who have done 40-45 fillings in a week at some sites. You won't get that many done in a week at the school's clinic!

As for OSU vs VCU -- I thought both programs were very similar when I applied. I would rather live in Columbus than Richmond. Also, I don't know if you know this, but if you are married and your spouse works full time, you get residency the first year. 👍

I go to VCU, and I'm not a homo. For what it's worth, I love it here.

But then if you go to temple you'll do more clinical work than the other two schools combined. But then again you have to do your own lab work.

I have never heard the phrase "Four handed dentistry" what does this mean and why does Ohio State do it for 60 days?

4 handed dentsitry is you working with an assistant (2 hands plus 2 hands) = 4 handed dentsitry! It is very beneficial because this is how it will be done in your practice. To respond to my earlier post...i'm not a homophobe i was just messing around. But, if you do feel like getting shot, raped, and stabbed you would probably be better off going to Temple than OSU!

You mean shot, raped, stabbed, killed, raped again, and then shot again?! All three schools have their pros and cons, at least OSU has a good football team.

not just a good football team....a national championship caliber football team!

HAHAHA, what a weird argument. It blows my mind that people still think this about Temple. The med school, pharm school and dental school are basically on the same block...it's interesting, have you guys noticed on the news that at least one Temple student (undergrad, post bacc, etc.) dies EVERYDAY!?!?!
I haven't noticed either. 🙄 You have better odds going to NYU and getting booted after a year!

Ohio State Pros: Football (NOT the browns...)
Cons: Ohio (the state), Columbus...hmmmmm

Temple pros: clinical work up the wazoo (50 implants a day wazoo), 76ers (frankly I am more worried about getting shot by AI than I am a street thug), Temple Basketball, Eagles (Seahawks always #1 though), location (NYU 1.5 hours away, D.C. the same, gettysburg, cheese steak, etc.), the mascot (OWWLSSSS!)
Temple cons: football team....

Does anyone else have any thoughts? I am close to making a decision, but I want to make that decision with all the info possible. Thank you all for your help.

Hey,

How are you? I'm starting at VCU this year too, and am having a tough time looking for housing or anyone to contact about how to go about doing it. The website is not very helpful. I'm trying to find something on-campus or close by, though not necessarilly one that I would have to room with someone. Can you help out? THANKS.

Every dental school has its pros and cons. However, if you've been accepted to Ohio State, the answer is clear. I was fortunate to be accepted to all these schools as well, and Ohio State, in my eyes stood head and shoulders above the rest. It simply was the best school and has the most to offer. congrats and good luck with your decision
