Any opinion from pre-dental and current dental students would be great! I am accepted to both OSU and Case, and they are tied for my #1 spot. OSU b/c it's much cheaper, Case b/c I'm from Cleveland and their Clinics are amazing.. Please let me know what you think of the two and why. If anyone goes to Case/OSU and have anything to say about why it's better- I would greatly appreciate any advice. Thanks sooo much!!

I worked in the Dental School @ OSU for the past three years in undergrad. Now I will be attending there next fall. Case is a great school, and so is OSU but it comes down to what you like better. don't be discouraged by money if that is what you are worried about, you will repay it. But OSU is much cheaper. Also, the staff @ OSU are very approachable, eventhough the class sizes are huge. OSU has all the specialties there are to offer, and going there could help get a foot in the door, if you want to specialize. There are many places to stay near and around campus that are very safe. I can also say there is much more recreational room down here in C-bus, West campus, the turf field, and i think 5 rec centers with the newest being huge! and like I said in a previous post, you have OSU football, and tickets to the home games are a highlight every season. Hope this helps. Good luck with you choice.

thanks.. do you find the clinics and lack of dentsims a negative or a non-issue?

Congrats!!! 😎
u r sooo lucky u get to make this "hard choice" 😀

I recommend OSU for sure. I was there with a friend during the fall who went to go check it out and I interviewed at Case. I thought OSU actually had better faculty and a better mix of students. Both have the great reputation, but go with the cheaper OSU...and I'm at Michigan and telling someone to go to OSU...my oh my, what has this world come to lol

if you're a single female who likes to party and do keg stands, go to case. if you're a married mormon male with 3 kids, go to osu. we need some diversity at case

Now that's funny. All four people I talked to at CASE during my interview were married males with at least two kids. I am sure there is some diversity though.

I am not sure if it is a negative, it would be nice to have the simlabs at OSU, but for me personally it is not an issue. The clinics are pretty nice from my viewpoint, and there is alot of new clinic chair space being built as we speak. We won't see the chairs till second year, or maybe first, and they should be done then.

I was flat out rejected at Case (no interview) and accepted to OSU.....I am currently a grad student at Case right now.....Case is great school but to be honest I don't like the atmosphere.....I understand dental school will be competitive but Case is so much more competitive.....Don't get me wrong....Case is a great school and a great dental school but Ohio State seems to have a warmer environment....I have two friends who graduated or at OSU. THe one who graduated is in ortho school and my other friend is a D2. They are always enthusiastic about the school. My friend in ortho school said that in all the places he has been it seems OSU produces some of the best clinicians.....go to OSU....cheaper.....great football....I have not heard my friends talk anything negative about the school.....good luck with the choice and when you make it let us all know which one you choose

really? every student ive talked to at case didnt think the school was competitive at all. not with the curriculum they have. they said the academic portion of the dental curriculum is pretty laid back. clinical, though, is whole different story; they put you through a ringer

Dentsims in my opinion are an absolute non-issue. I've said it before on this forum, whether or not you are learning on a $10,000 dentsim or a rubber head on a post, you still suck at cutting teeth. The only plus, in my opionion, would be purely objective feedback. As for the clinics, I think Ohio State's actual clinics are nicer, but Case runs them far better.

Good luck with your decision. To answer your original question, you can't beat the whole experience here; Big Ten football, dotting the "i", great city, good people, etc...there's more to life than dental school. I'll look back on my years here with great fondness...and only part of it will be because of the dental school. Work hard anywhere and you'll be a great dentist.

The reason you should go to Ohio State is to go to their football games!!! Have you ever been to a game in the Horse-shoe?? Its amazing!! The campus life their is wicked fun. Ohh and they have an amazingly friendly staff and somewhere between the shrine to football ( the stadium) and the school you'll find the dental school.

I agree with everybody that says OSU. Columbus is so much cleaner than Cleveland. You've got football, all of the specialties, and great staff. And then you have the price difference. Case has the amazing clinics and good technology, you have to admit. I still think Ohio is a great school and has experience and respect in the dental community. Dental Research is very strong. I'm convinced that any technology that Ohio State lacks can be learned or picked up later in practice. Learning to be a good dentist is about the basics, and I am led to believe that Ohio State provides an excellent foundation. That almost sounds like an advertisement. 😎

Columbus CLEANER than Cleveland? Ha... I don't know about that one (coming from someone who lived in Columbus & Cleveland)
