OHSU anyone?

Just wondering if anyone has heard anything from OHSU. I am assuming probably not since they typically start a bit later than some others. Just thought I would try and see who else here is waiting to hear from them.

Good luck you guys. OHSU starts and finishes really late with the whole application cycle so be patient. 🙂

Yes, OHSU is my top choice as well. They are just beginning the review/organization. They're later than most other schools I believe. Their first interviews are in mid-October, but I know many who got in with interview in February or March, so just be real patient. Good luck to all, hopefully we'll be in the same class!

They updated my aadsas about 2 weeks ago saying that they are starting the review process. That's all i've heard.

My classmate was accepted late in the cycle. My interview was super late also...and I had all my other interviews done for 2-3 months before the OHSU interview.

Not to discourage you, but if I were you, I would get to applying to more schools ASAP!!! Your GPA is good, but your DAT scores are actually quite low for OHSU even for an Oregon resident. With those scores you should realistically be applying to 12+ schools. Good luck.

I heard from OHSU about 3 weeks ago. they asked for retaking DAT! because my RC score(14! 😱) TS=20 AA=19

Mine also says recieved/under review! Maybe they are starting the process a bit earlier this year. I talked to Andrea in admissions and she said they were going to try to start sooner this year then they have in previous years.

I just interviewed there and I really liked the place. Everyone was very approachable and the interview itself was really relaxing. nothing to worry about. I also met one of my classmates from my highschool there and he likes it except he said the combined sciences part is tough

I heard from them around the first part of October, but I had called and talked to the Associate Dean, Mark, by pure luck when I called to ask about a secondary application in September. He is really easy to talk to! So I suggest that if you want to set yourself apart. They were good at keeping AADSAS updated, and I have an interview on Friday! Keep checking AADSAS and call just to talk with them!🙄

yah sure it was like why dentistry and things like about the future of dentistry where is it leading. what about when u were working for ur dentist did u like and dislike. It was just a conversation and my interviewers were very nice. i was nervous at first but then when i started talking it was just like talking to a friend. Mark is awesome and very helpful. He should me around and answered all of my questions. I ate lunch at the hospital with a student and that was cool. I got to talk to not only dental students but med students as well. I really liked the clinic atmosphere and the group based learning is neat. Good luck on ur interview it is not stressful and everyone has good things to say about their school.

Thanks for the update. I've heard good things about OHSU interviews; low stress, friendly atmosphere, etc. Did they still require the short essay at the beginning? Could you share what the format of the day was like?

I second this. I admire your confidence, but based on my experience with friends and myself, sometimes you don't get into the program you thought you would. I think you should apply to more schools so you won't be regretting it later if you don't get in to OHSU. I'm a a 1st year student from CA. I met a couple students in my class who are from Oregon, but didn't get into their home state school. Again, congrats on your GPA, scores, and background. I hope this helps. Good luck!

If it's meant to be it will happen. If not, there is always next year. Some other circumstances prohibit me from applying to other schools this year but if I don't get in this year, I will definately be applying to 8+ schools next year. I also know of people with similar stats to mine that got acceptances as late as April last year. I know I'm not a guaranteed exceptence but I know I'm competitive. Hope to meet some of you at an interview sometime sooner than later! 😀

yah there is still a writing sample in the beginning not bad at all. It was like orientation with Mark then interview than like lunch with a student and a tour and then another interview. It was my first interview and I really liked it

Thanks for sharing. Did any of the students mention anything about the new combined biophys courses? They changed their curriculum a bit and haven't updated it online so I was just interested in what the students thought of it. Do you have any more interviews coming up? If so, good luck.

I recently interviewed there. I also interviewed at a couple east coast schools. I must say that they may not have the best facilities that are out there, but you well be an extremely well-prepared general dentist as a graduate from OHSU.

They have more than adequate resources available, and the people there are great. Mark Mitchell, dean of admissions, is a great guy. I've known him for a few years and he's very helpful and knowledgable. I asked him a question during the morning of the interview and he made sure to get back to me later that day.

Interviewing was not stressful at all. Very relaxed and laid back, and they asked practical questions. It's going to be a tough choice, but OHSU is still my top choice I have to say.

Integrative Bioscience (IB) is a 6 credit course that combines Neuroscience, Physiology and Biochemistry. Honestly, I don't mind the course. The idea is good. It is going through it's bumps and bruises but from what I've heard, this year is better than last (last year was the first year they implemented it). The content is difficult, I'm not gonna lie. There's been a few people who have failed both tests we've had so far... but there is always remediation. Bust your butt and you'll be OK!
Honestly, I'm very happy where I'm at. My classmates are awesome and they get you into the clinic first term. Very clinically oriented!

Shadowing/assisting/patient interaction. Not much but it's still good to not be locked in the classrooms all the time.

Oh... Well then I guess Marquette does the same. We have rotations assisting D3/D4s and we had a radiology rotation where we actually got a couple of patients to do a full load of x-rays. Really simply like you guys.

I did check AADSAS compulsively after 4:30 because I hadn't gotten an e-mail yet like they said they would be sending but a couple hours later, I got my e-mail!

I got same letter 2 days ago but dateed Jan 12th. and updated my AAdsas last week. I had to retake my DAT under their cut off. (I retook that dec 16)
