I just got an email that said the committee wants verification of observation hours. They also said they'd "like to see a minimum of 50 observation hours, at least 25 of those in a general practice setting, from all applicants." What if I haven't observed that much. I can do a little more but with working part time and school full time I dont have many free hours that coincide with when dentists work. What do I do?

Not sure. I just got an email from them...they want money. So maybe once I send the money, they'll send me that email also.

How many hours have you shadowed? I personally HATE shadowing but I really enjoy assisting. Make the best of what you have.

my aadsas updated yesterday to say they are reviewing my file and it says in the official guide to D schools what the shadowing requierements are prior to application

I have heard shadowing is one of the first things OHSU looks at in an applicant's file. The 50 hours is part of their requirement to apply to their school, and you need them. you should put in as many hours as you possibly can, I'm sure there are hours in the week you can shadow a dentist who works 9-5 M-F.

I'm in a similar situation - I work in a corporate setting with the same hours as most dentists (well, mine are longer). Call around to see if any dentists in your area work on Saturdays, especially those offices that take walk-ins. Some dentists work Saturdays because many of their patients can't come in during the week. You could also try to find a dentist working at a hospital, maybe one doing a residency.

On second thought, does anyone know if GPRs typically allow pre-dents to shadow them?
