Hi,
In looking at various prelim year websites, some programs want you to wait until you have an ophtho interview to apply to their prelim spots, some have a different code for regular prelim and ophtho-associated prelim, and most others are just open for application whenever.

My question- when is the best time to submit the ERAS application for the prelim year spots? I was going to submit it in the next week or so but maybe it is better to wait longer? What if i get prelim interviews before I even get ophth interviews?

When is a reasonable time to submit ERAS.....?? I appreciate your help.

I second these questions! I whole prelim process is something of a mystery to me too. Any info is much appreciated!

For the programs that want you to get an interview first from an ophthalmology department, these programs usually favor applicants who will match there for residency. You can apply after you get an invite to interview for ophthalmology. For all others, submit at any time. The match for prelim positions is much later, and you have plenty of time for ERAS submission. I wouldn't worry about the prelim application because if you'll match for ophthalmology, then you'll get a prelim position without a problem.

I would guess this has been addressed before, but if so I am unable to find the thread... If it has been posted, maybe someone can just point me in the right direction.

What are the thoughts on personal statements for the ERAS application for prelim year? Should I write a new statement, edit my ophtho PS, or just submit the ophtho PS as is?

Thanks much.
