A friend of mine at school told me today he knew a girl who just got in off the waitlist. I don't know when exactly she got her letter though.

I'm not calling Dotty...I've already bugged that poor woman enough already 😛

I got an email from Dotty today asking me to get her a copy of my transcript with my 3rd semester english grade. She said they were verifying pre-req's for "interviewed applicants". Any other waitlisters get this?

Not me.

All they emailed me were copies of the books
"2006 Guide to Carribean Med Schools" & "The Joys of Dentistry"

Is that a hint?

I better start doing a buncha praying or slaughter a goat or something.
I received my financial aid letter last week. Now I just need an acceptance letter to go along with it.

i need some closure 2, anyways if i dont get an acceptance by may 30th im thinkin my chances are really slim. I just heard of some1 at my school gettin off the waitlist 2.

Did you get "Podiatry. The other, OTHER "medical school"". If not, there's still a chance.

J/K, we're all rooting for you guys that are hanging by a thread. You're going through the worst of it right now. Med school is hard, but the waiting (MCAT scores, interviews, waitlists, etc.) is torture.

Have I ever told you what my fav color is? RED of course, especially in my mail box!! I can't believe it.......... 😱 😍 🙂 😀 👍
Good luck to everyone still waiting. I think movement this early is a good sign that there will be lots of waitlist acceptances !!!
I'm going to surprise my hubby at work now!
Thanks for all of your support guys!

Wow, way to go, Rachel!! 👍 That's fantastic news.

Hopefully, all our other sdn waitlisters will see some red, too. :luck:

CONGRATS!!! Now, sit back relax, and... No I'm KIDDING! Jump on the couch, call a stranger on the phone and scream in their ear, run naked down the street, or whatever!

(I do think it's funny that you posted on here, before telling your man. )

Me too! I can't stand waiting for the mail everyday. 😴
Anyone want to call dotty to see if there has been any movement? I'm just a big chicken so I'm not volunteering.
Things have to start moving soon.....

It's also comical to note that when you wrote this, your future was already floating around in "mail land".

😛 I would have told my husband first but I wanted to tell him in person 😉 I don't know why but my first thought was to get on SDN. I spend so much time checking this thread it's just not funny. 😳
I will keep checking the board multiple times a day and am excited for more good news for the waitlisters!! :luck: 👍

With 3 Acceptances I'm not surprised.

Jealous, but not surprised. 🙂

Oh, come on now. It's not even May 15th!! Or even CLOSE to May 15th!! The vast majority of waitlist movement doesn't start until after May 15th, because EVERYBODY waits until the last possible moment to withdraw their extra acceptances. It's awesome that Rachel got in early, but that definitely doesn't mean they don't have a spot for you opening up soon! Good luck!

Congratulations, RachelD!!! Welcome to the Class of 2010. Too Cool. Hang in there, JohnnyOU - especially until after the 15th - still plenty of time left, and we've still got our fingers crossed.

It's OVER!!! 49.9% MD! (0.1% for that little tiny insignificant detail called Step 1).

By the way, here's some free, unsolicted advice for the MS1's.
PCM Final - Cakewalk.
Pharm Final - Despite what is said, if you want to feel good walking out of the test, you need to reread the ENTIRE SYLLABUS again. No joke.
They tell you that the final test will be made up of the easiest questions from each block exam. BS. There was a bunch of questions which would never be in ANY review book, but would only be found in the 5" thick syllabus.

It's your choice whether you want to chance it or not. I read review books and first aid, and did great (but in my opinon, I was just D*MN LUCKY). Ad_Sharp read the syllabus on the advice of a 3rd year, and did really well.

IHI as usual is just a beast, but you'll come out of there feeling like you learned a ton.

Congrats to all the incoming MS1's, Congrats to the soon to be MS2's, and here's to our class with a rousing virtual WOOHOO!!!!! (soon to be followed by countless hours of mind-numbing board prep)

Thanks for the advice 🙂 When are you taking step 1? How long have you been prepping?? There are people in my class who are talking about spending all summer studying for it 😱 I just don't know what good it will do to "study" something a year before I take the test... I'm not going to remember it any better from this summer than from the last 6 test blocks!

Studying for it this summer? They're outright lying or completely insane.

No wonder our class has a reputation as being the gunner class.

At least I do my part to break the stereotype. 😛

I don't know about you guys, but I'm going out Monday afternoon to buy my books for next year so that I can start studying in between prepping for the boards and writing 3 research papers and drawing up a rough draft of my personal statement for my residency applications and curing cancer and... oh wait... I forgot. I'm not doing that. I decided to go with the "golf and video games" plan instead. My bad.

Question for the MSII's (gonna be MSIII's-yeah!). Anyway, could you please give us some feedback about the phys final's comprehensive part. Like what you thought of it, how detailed/in depth was it compared to the earlier exams, who stuck it to ya, what you did to prepare, etc. You know what I mean. Basically, I'm scared, and I want to know if it is even worth being worried about.

While you are at it, how was the new material's questions?

Please, please, please help a girl out. I'm tired...long week...even longer weekend...and I'm tired....almost to the point of being diagnosed with abulia...

To be quite honest with you, I don't remember. I don't even remember if our physiology final had a comprehensive portion. I remember the neuro final did, but I don't remember any specifics about either one.

I'm taking step 1 on June 15th. I pretty much started studying last month by studying for the comprehensive IHI and Pharm finals.

As for study strategies, I'm not going to say that one way is necessarily better than another, but it does seem a bit gunnerish to start worrying about Step 1 a year early. Give yourself a break. Some people did research (not really a break, IMO, but helpful for getting some of the more competitive residencies I guess. Other people took trips, some vegged hard, and I went to flight school. Point is, you need the break between MS1/MS2 to recharge, and trying to study for step 1 during that time will likely result in major burnout during MS2, and even potentially doing WORSE on the boards as a result.

IMO, your best bet is to do as well as you can for the first two years, and then spend the month before boards in heavy review. Remember, it's much easier to review than to relearn.

Have fun over the summer, and congrats on making it over a monster hurdle!

Well, it looks like the scholarship committee has met and mailed decisions -- I just got a smallish educational grant (not at all complaining about the amount, though because all non-loan money is good money). Maybe including my sob story about dh having to find a new job and my parents' retirement last year was a good idea. 🙂

Anyway, check your mail box! I remember that my brother got grants for being from a rural area because he was from Stillwater. Admittedly, we used to always complain about not having a mall, but I don't think Stillwater's exactly rural. 😛

Heh, amazing.

Looks like little has changed. I remember the exact same thing from our Pharm final.

Is Holloman still teaching IHI?

Dr. Holliman is still teaching IHI and Leon is still the biochem guru. I guess each year has its icons.

Hope everything is still on track for your new job! Has to be a great feeling finishing up residency. Most likely see you in the next couple of years on rotations.

 I know how you feel... I also have the waitlist blues. I hadn't thought about it for a while, then a friend was asking me about the whole getting into med school thing... so since then I have been down again. It is so frustrating to be so close you can taste it, only to be kicked back to the curb and have to go through the whole thing again with a new (and younger) group of people. Plus, the whole not being able to really plan your life. The financial aspect is the worst; I'm afraid I won't get a loan at all for next year because I cannot complete all the info for the FAFSA since I don't know if I'll be in med school or continued undergrad. Blah. I've mostly quit reading SDN because it is depressing to read about everyone who is trying to get their loans & scholarships & prep for 1st year squared away... when we are sitting here thinking, "Will I even get to do that?" 🙁 I think I've managed to depress myself again. Back to studying for Animal Development. At least I get to graduate next week... 😳

Sorry for 3 posts in a row... but like I said, I've been too down to read SDN so I am making up for it all at once. Maybe I should have kept with it more since there is apparently early waitlist movement.

One more test... one more test...

Well, one more real test anyway. The comprehensive doesn't count this year, thank God.

By noon I'll be a free man, munching on pizza and cheesecake and making reservations for a (at least in my mind) well-deserved night out.

Are you guys sure you want to put up with this kind of stress? 😛

If any state residents have their financial aid award letter handy, what is the estimated tuition down at the bottom?

For some reason my letter has me as a non-resident...gotta get that straightened out.

Freeze-
That happened to me too. I called OU and got everything straightened out over the phone. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I hadn't sent in the verification form pertaining to residency; mainly because it didn't have a deadline. I mailed it and the other stuff they required right after I saw what non-residents get to pay. And after a lecture from the wife.

I'm going to call or go by there Wed. to follow up...

Well, mine is $ 18,370.00. But I don't know if that changes from MSI to MSII or not.

I'm probably rehashing stuff that has been discussed previously, so I apologize in advance...

Awhile back we were talking about returning funds. When I return my financial aid award letter to OU accepting 30K and 8.5K in loans, I don't need to decide then how much to accept, right? Or was that more like giving back excess (pfft...) after disbursement?

I spoke with a lender today that said a good way to approach all of this was to spread out who we borrow from, and not to only use one lender. Her rationale was that when it comes time to consolidate, you have more to choose from as far as benefits go, i.e. repayment points, auto-debit, that sort of deal...something about you can't consolidate with lenders you don't have loans with. Are the benefits between different lenders not set in stone when you first sign the note? Like, if a lender has 2% off principal upon 36 on-time payments this summer, would it matter what the benefit is in 7-8 years when I go to pay it back? It seems like it would lock in, but that isn't what she seemed to be describing.

And holy crap, I was under the impression that med loans were going to be around 4-5% tops!?!?! Ignorance is bliss...

...MS2..that seems wierd...east lecture hall.....

amx: i really wanted to kick S.S. today, but i was worried i would miss the pads and kick him in an "unprotected" area..

They were until this upcoming school year. 🙁 That actually is a good idea about getting loans from different lenders. I borrowed all my law school loans through the same lender and consequently had to consolidate with them. It's worked out okay, but it's probably good to give yourself some flexibility.

Yeah, I bet you did freak when you saw the $41k oos tuition. 🙂

How can I forget about Leon?

Looks like everything is on track. Should be starting sometime in the month of July. Yes it does feel good to be finishing up. As is the case with most things, I absolutely can't believe how quickly it has all gone by. These seven years have flown by.

I'm more than willing to help out the students in anyway I can, especially in matters pertaining to EM. There aren't alot of resources there right now for students interested in EM as many of you may or may not have already noticed.
