Hello has anyone applied to the OSU-COM Bridge Program? If so, have you heard anything? Are there any former or current students from the program? How is it? Can you PM me with the typical stats that would make a good applicant for the program? How many, if any, are out-of staters?

What is the program?

The program is the BRIDGE program. Do you mean what is the program about or the requirements?

^^I think he means.. what is the program about..

Essentially, the program divides the 2 pre-clinical years into 3 years.
Year 1, students take all classes other 1st year students take except OMM, Gross, and Neuro.
Year 2, they take OMM, Gross, and Neuro only. They also retake all courses they did not make an 85% or better in first year. They do not have to reattempt the courses a 3rd time as long as they make a passing grade (70%).
Year 3, they take a full load, what all 2nd year students take.

They have additional tutoring and study materials throughout the first 2 years. The summer before their first year they take a pre-histo course to help ensure they get off to a good start. The bridge program is primarily used for minority outreach.

I applied. According to Sarah Quinten Sr. Administrative Assistant They should start calling people very dsoon.I've got my fingers crossed. Who else applied?

How/why did you choose to apply to that program?

I qualify for every aspect of the program. Minority, low income non-trad etc.The slower curriculum and the opportunity to stay here in Oklahoma are perfect for me and my family.

Similar situation, low MCAT, but out-of-state

I'd like to know if anyone else applied to the bridge program. According to the open house last year I think these are some rough stats:

Applications: around 52
Interviews: around 21
Accepted: 9-11

Maybe..
I would say probably not. Pretty sure they didn't expand class size as was planned.
They were going to increase the regular program class size, from the current 80 to some unknown number. The bridge program is 10% of the class size so as the regular class got bigger, so would the bridge program.

Not sure whether they are going to expand or not expand...but I was also told by someone who had spoken to someone in the OSU office about the program that they are accepting 9 (2 or 3 OOS). They will send invites out around the 2nd week of April and that they had received about 65 applications for the program.

Cool thanks for the info.

Anyone else are here applied or know someone who has applied????

I also applied, while I meet the qualifications "and was interviewed" for the traditional program. I also meet all the additional requirements for the Bridge program. It gives me two shots at an acceptance, so I applied. The likelihood of an acceptance isn't so clear as their recommendation was I take some more upper division courses and reapply.

I had already applied to the bridge program before I had any feedback from the interview committie.

Might be hearing from them earlier than we think🙂🙄👍:hardy:

They held interviews for the Bridge Program last Wed, Thurs, and Fri. Everyone will know something by the end of this week.

Im am curious what upper division classes did everyone take (they recommended 3-5). And also if you don't mind or feel offended what was your gpa/mcat? I don't mean to get so personal but i just would like to get a feeling of what applicants look like .

Thanks

I got denied an interview(and I'm a little bitter about it)so here ya go...
Mcat taken January 25th 23O
GPA non science 2.90
science 2.55
Upper level science Genetics, Cell and Molecular Biology,
Wildlife Managment(senior level),Ecology,
Immunology,Pathology of Fungi
Experimental Molecular Biology, Medical Entomology

Volunteered with abused children and at a local hospice service for over a year.
Letters of rec from science prof, DO surgeon and Mayor of my small town.
Oh by the way did I mention I qualified economiclly disadvantaged, Oklahoma resident and a MINORITY!!!!
But not even an interview......
Untill I hear people that show stats I'm very disappointed with OSU.
I was under the impression the bridge program was made to give disadvantaged studnts a chance to prove themselves over 5 years, not to be 8 more spots for people that didn't get in the regular program.
Please..someone else that applied to the program show your stats. Reaffirm my faith in OSU. I really don't want to beleive my assumptions but I have been given nothing else to go on. I want to beleive that there were 12 applicants before me with GPA's of 2.8 or something and better stories volunteering and life experiance than mine.

Interviews were held April 16, 17, and 18, and everyone was supposed to hear something by yesterday, April 25th. Has anyone had any response yet?

Yeah they supposedly going to be sent out this coming week

I also thought they were going to call last week. I have not see a letter or received any calls yet.

Sarah said that the letters were mailed out today.

I called today and they said the letters should be mailed out tomorrow. Please keep us updated if you get any letters tomorrow, positive or negative and I will do the same.

Good luck to all.

Do anyone know how many people interviewed?

Please, current applicants, post your acceptances/ rejections and your stats. OSU-COM is my absolute first choice - I've been shadowing at the hospital and every week is more fantastic - but I'm worried about my chances of getting in b/c I'm OOS and don't have the best stats. I want to apply to the BRIDGE program but I want to see how you guys play out first... so I guess I can learn from your mistakes maybe? ^_^

Thanks to all posters!

Anyone want to post there stats?

No letter today. Did anyone get a letter?

Blaze,

I know I am a pre-med too like yourself. But it seems like to me your time and money would be better spent trying to take more classes instead of applying to med school.

Ucfmop, His Stats Meet The Criteria For The Bridge Program Did You Even Apply?

Well it seems they have sent out all the letters< does anybody know of anybody that has been accepted already, since acceptance letters were supposed to be recieved today

I received a letter yesterday regular mail. Got wait listed.

I am not trying to bash OSU but I think its somehow a waste of time for ppl to apply to this program to be honest, because its just another way of ppl who got regular interview to get in and under a 5 yr program instead of a 4. I think its unfair if ppl who are only economically but grades are stellar enough to get an interview to take ppl who fit the whole criteria for bridge spots to be honest. I mean whats the use the are a lot of ppl who are economically disadvantaged but still got into med school with thier grades. I love OSU but that admissions committee needs to really evaulate why they made the program so ppl wont waste their time & money applying and going to interviews. Thats my two cents

Acceptance letter received this morning!

My understanding is that the bridge program is designed to find the most qualified canadiate that meets the criteria "economically or otherwise".

If you throw out the canidates that have proven theirself with good grades, but still meet the criteria set up then the program isn't working. It shouldn't matter if the canidate was good enough for a regular interview "but not good enough for acceptance."

Congrats ortho

Some people were wondering about applicants to bridge program stats so here are mine. Didn't get interview to bridge program this year
My stats were:
3.09 overall gpa
3.1 sci gpa
23 mcat
197 hrs college credit with good ec's and lor's, hs science/math teacher 5 years in Oklahoma.
Qualify for bridge as economic, and small town
Was interviewed for regular admissions however didn't have enough upper division credit "zero in chem or biology only physics". Am taking two ud courses this summer and reapplying in the fall to both regular and bridge program. Was denied this year since I didn't have enough ud courses and marginal mcat. Will take either acceptance as both routes finish at same place
