    hmmm...maybe I'll got optometry school if I don't land on OPH residency. I can work in OK, and be an MD OD. An even newer breed.

    Seriously though...this is pretty scary stuff. I wonder how people would react if PA's started lobbying to be given the ability to do relatively minor surgical procedures, maybe lap choles, node biopsies, etc. I think people would lose their minds. I don't know why certain people can understand that laser surgery is....well, surgery. Also...what happens to patients that OD's screw up with surgery? I would think many OMD's would be quite gun-shy about taking these patients under their care.

    Anyways...this is like world war of the eye care providers. I'm glad opticians don't frequent this board too.
