old blue kaplan book vs new one

Hey there,

I'm compiling a list of books I should get in preparation to study for my DAT (taking it end of May 2012)- so far, I've been using my textbooks..

Here's my question:

A friend of mine gave my his kaplan book awhile ago, but it's the 2007-2008 version. Is there a difference in the newer ones, so is it suffice to just use the older one? Whats the difference?

When should I apply for the date I want to take the DAT? Would you say it's still too early? Whens the best time?

Also, if there's books you would like to recommend, please feel free to let me know. Thanks!

Like any book, the publisher makes minor changes(not major ones) to sell the book but change it enough to charge a full price. Ex: Kaplan 2005 Vs 2010, color drawings and thinner pages. I had the Kaplan 2005 white book, 2010 white book, 2009-2010 blue book and 2005 blue book and wasn't much different. Same product just repacked and priced.

Best time to take the DAT is when your ready but its best to take it in August. It gives you time to study and you can still apply early. Like apply in July, which gives you 6 weeks grace period then take the DAT (scores turn over in 24hrs). So Study May-August, send application in July. Take DAT early August, like first week.
