old IMG with Step1 83/204 🙁 interested in PM&R 😍
Is it possible for me to get into PM&R Residency program?
How competitive are these PM&R Residency programs now? Any minimum score requirement?
thank you,
Web

As with most residencies, the top and/or most desirable programs are competitive. However, if you apply broadly you will most likely get a spot. It has been discussed in this forum before that while good StepI scores are helpful, most program directors look for a demonstrated interest and aptitude in the field. PM&R is a small field and while it may not seem as competitive numbers-wise, programs are well within their right to be 'picky'. It would be easier to find a spot in a field with many more spots available.

Just out of curiousity: What makes you an 'old' IMG? Is it simply that you entered medicine late in life or have you already started a residency in a different field?

graduated in 1990, practiced for about 7 years in native country, and 6 yrs research in US.

anything is possible but probably difficult to get into high or mid tier programs. Other factors do matter - is your research in PM&R? do you have letters of recommendatio from physiatrists? do you understand the field of PM&R and know how to communicate your understanding well during interviews? Are you bound to certain geographic locations in the US? There are still some PM&R programs with IMGs but they have become rare - try some of the lesser known programs in less popular locations.:luck:
