Who would you give the respirator to??

I think it would have to depend on how many months the pregnant woman is.....and who's in the most critical condition.

Any thoughts?

These are lame questions. Sorry to say.

But I see this in pre-allo all the time.

Normally one patient will get the respirator.... sure the pregnant women, and the old man will have to get hand pump respirator for the time it takes to get another mechanical one. If you don't have a hand pump thingy... I would assume you don't have a mechanical ventilator. Then you will have to do CPR!!!

i agree, totally hard to tell without knowing who's in a more critical condition.

but i think i would say the pregnant woman. the old man has lived his life, while the younger pregnant woman has a lot more time left, plus the life of her unborn child.

of course, having not been in the situation, you can never really tell what you would do.

As long as you have good reasoning for picking one over the other, the answer maybe correct. Whether that is correct in the eyes of interviewer will be different story.

Whoever has the better prognosis according to his or her condition.

Give it to the non-smoker. 😉

Whoever has the better prognosis??? Can you expand on that because i feel like i'm misinterprettin you.

i think he means whoever is more likely to live/have better quality of life. whose more likely to have the resp save their life in a quality condition.

How about if you had a large amount of funds and you could either donate it to help a little girl needing some complicated heart surgery, or spread it around to help many people?

Hmmm well in that case RAVEN. who would you give the respirator to, the man who is 32 with lung cancer (because he's been smokin all his life) and has a child or the old man who is a non-smoker with a devouted wife??

In your answer, would you take into the account of how their quality of life was before they got themselves in this situation??

Perhaps after recievin the respirator, the man with lung cancer can change and increase his quality of life and probably live longer than the old man. Are you sayin that you would still give it to the one with the better prognosis?

The old man, based on prognosis only and having nothing to do with being a smoker or non-smoker. I am no judge to someone else's quality of life, that has always been my philosohy. Quality of life to me, is only relative to the patient's view point but I would have to be the judge of one's quality of condition. That is what would be my answer.
