I took the MCAT in August 2001, and am applying right now for 2005 admission. About half of the schools require 2002 scores are sooner, and others will take 2001 scores. Do you think it is worth retaking the MCAT just to apply to certain schools? I had a strong MCAT score, it's just too old. Do you think some schools will make an exception? Thanks in advance for the advice!

I would look at which schools you are interested in applying to, how many will take the old score, and how many require the new one. It is quite an undertaking to restudy and regear for the MCAT, and if for some reason you don't perform as well on this new one...I am not quite sure how favorably this will be viewed by the ADCOMS.

Which schools are willing to still accept the old MCAT? Just out of curiosity...I would have thought that the scores would have been too old period.

NYU, NYMC, Wayne State, Tulane, UMich, Albany, Einstein, MCV, Loyola, Uconn... There's a decent number, actually. It's all semantics, some want scores that are from 3 years prior to applying, some want scores that are from 3 years prior to matriculating.

I share your opinion, though. It's definitely not worth studying for the MCAT again, with the risk of going down, just for a couple schools. It's their loss, right? ... right? ;-)

Hey, can you please tell me where you got the info? I have the copy of MSAR, but it just says that scores from 2001 are ok? Did you contact each school you're applying for?

Are you sure they take MCAT scores from August 2001? If you feel like you can study enough to do decently, you should probably take it again so you have such a much more diverse group of schools to choose from. that way, you won't end up with a case of, "I wish I had taken the MCAT so I could have applied to this school."

Again, that's only IF you can do decently and know that you have the motivation to take it again.
