Hello doctors,
writing this post to ask for an advice, Im currently an advanced standing student at an accredited american dental school. our program finish and we receive our degree by mid September 2021. The problem by this time its too late to apply to any OMFS program that i know of. my other option is to get my degree in September 2021 and wait to apply in jan 2022 to hopefully get into an OMFS internships to start in july 2021 and apply to OMFS programs. SO im going to have a gap around 9 months between (september 2021- july 2022) , so what do u recommend doing in this gap as i heard a lot of OMFS programs dont like candidates to practice general dentistry or work as a dentist ( not sure how accurate is that ). any advice will be appreciated thank you so much

Nothing wrong with working as a GP for a short period, then jumping into an internship in July. OMFS programs don’t frown on people that have ever worked as a GP, they frown on people that think working as a GP is equivalent experience to an internship. Given the timing of your graduation, it’s completely reasonable and understandable. Don’t lose any sleep over it

If I were you, find a research gig and try to get published. MUCH better than just being a general dentist, but also helpful if you want to work as a dentist part time.
