Would individuals who just went through the cycle post some of the most common interview questions they had, as well as what questions they weren't expecting? In addition, how different are OMFS interviews from dental school interviews? In my experience dental interviews were all fairly laid back. Did you find this to be the case with OFMS interviews as well?

I believe this will help upcoming applicants. Thank you for any information.

Every program has a different style of interview.

I had a few 2 panels of 6 people each.

one that was 10 consecutive 30 min interviews with individuals

Another was one 15 minute interview with like a 12+ person panel.

most were like 5ish interviews with individuals.

The questions were mostly “tell us about yourself, why OMFS?” But there was a fair share of situational questions “What would you do if you caught someone cheating” type stuff. Lots of “Whats your greatest accomplishment? A time you failed?” Questions too.

Ultimately, no wrong answers, just be yourself. The best way to practice is literally just talking to people, you are in dental school and meet new people every day.

Questions:
  1. Give an example of a situation in which you helped resolve conflict.
  2. What was the last book that you read?
  3. Give an example of a mistake that you made, and what did you do about it.
My advice:
  1. Go the day or night before and find the exact location where you are supposed to be.
  2. Be 20 minutes early. Make sure you know which time zone you are in.
  3. Look like a banker.
  4. Stand up, shake hands, and say, “How do you do?”
  5. Be sure to know everything you can about the attendings.
  6. Always have 3 questions prepared for the interviewer. You don’t have to use them all. Make them pertinent.
  7. Send a written thank you note to the program director.
