Disclaimer: I’m not in the dental or medical field.

My husband had 8 interviews at OMFS programs and submitted his match ranking list.

That being said, I’ve done as much research as I can (it’s hard to find actual information on what a program is like), and was wondering if anyone had insight on the following programs:

1. University of Cincinnati

2. University of Minnesota

3. Indiana University

4. University of Iowa

Thanks in advance!

To be honest the best person to provide you with this info would be your husband, if he wasn't able to get the information about the programs and the culture while on the interview then he did something seriously wrong.

That being said I've only heard great things about Cincinati

He provided plenty of information from his interviews but thanks for your concern. I was simply asking to see if there are any additional perspectives on these programs out there. Seeing as interviews are usually a 48 hr deal, i think we got a good picture of culture and program, but in this case there’s no such thing as too much information.

Thanks for the small input on Cincinnati!

Being in similar shoes I understand your apprehension, from a spouses point of view I would look at the cities as well, Cincinnati appears to be a great family city, affordable and lots of things to do, (since they all seem to be Midwest located that probably won't differ much tbh).

Even going to the interviews and asking about the "culture" has its limitations. Most of the programs try and sell you and may hide information such as malignancy amongst attendings and/or residents. Best way to find out is honestly through word of mouth and knowing people at certain programs. Reading through the program overview thread actually made me laugh because certain posts completely ignore glaring obvious issues within the program that any extern can see after a couple days.

Good luck to you and your husband!

THANK YOU. Exactly, I couldn’t of said it better myself. Programs are trying to sell you as much as you’re trying to sell yourself. I’ve taken everything with a grain of salt, which is why I posted here.

I am a third year resident here in Cincinnati. I will be a chief next year so your husband would by my intern if he happens to match here. If you have any questions, please let me know and I will be happy to answer them to the best of my abilities. 🙂
