Howdy all. So I compiled a google map of all the civilian OMFS programs in the country and figured I'd share it with anyone who may find it useful. I color coded it by red (4 yr), green (6 yr), and purple (4 and 6 year). Circle pins are programs with 2 or less spots per year and pins are 3+ spots per year. If you click on a pin, I've also listed salary by PGY status, website information, and any externship information available. Some areas e.g. NYC need to be zoomed in because there are a million programs in a tiny area. Ignore the routes and blue pin originating from Utah (I placed it for my own use planning out externships).

Cheers!

Quick Edit: Just another random thing, you should be able to export the map and load it onto your own Google setup and customize however you see fit in the event anyone needs to do that.

Edit 2: Here is a better formatted legend for the map colors:
Red: 4 year (single degree)
Green: 6 year (dual degree)
Purple: Both 4 and 6 year (single and dual degree both offered)
Circle pin: 2 or less seats per year
Thumb tack: 3 or more seats per year
** Purple circle pins are the only ones available so haven't figured a good way to convey the # of seats for these programs **

Edit 3: Information for UW has been updated (thanks @Bereno). I have also deleted my personal stuff off the map. If you need to export the data, you can hit the share button (next to the twitter icon) and hit download KML. As far as I know, KML is specific to Google products (i.e. Earth, Maps, and Mobile Maps).

Edit 4: Map has been updated again. All dead URLs have been replaced. Programs that offer non-categorical internships have been denoted with an asterisk in the program title. Details about it, if available, are in the description pop up. I found these spots by visiting each individual page so I doubt it is comprehensive.

That's pretty cool. Thanks buddy.

Wish I had this available this time last year.

Thanks!! did you extern at UIC yet...and what were your thought? Sorry if I botched reading your map

Glad people are finding it useful. It took a couple of hours during a slow sim lab afternoon to compile haha.

I haven't externed at UIC. That particular route is actually for Cook County that is on my tentative list. I have superficially toured UIC and the program looks solid.

If anyone has any suggestions on things to add that may be useful or out of date information, I'd be happy to update it so it remains relevant for applicants.

Nice! Thats pretty cool 🙂

Also, just an FYI - Washington is now a 6 year program

@Bereno, glad you enjoy it bud! I heard about the UW 6 year conversion last weekend which is a long time coming. I'll update that in the map.

this is an excellent map.

I think one great addition for interested applicants would be to add which programs offer non-categorical internships.

I think that's a brilliant idea. I'm assuming ADEA's PASS page probably has the most comprehensive list available for OMFS interships? Does AAOMS have anything?

I just learned Minnesota is right next to Canada. All this time, I thought it was next to Utah. ****ing idiot.

@sgv I thought Wisconsin was next to Nebraska..... the midwest is all weird
@AlbinoPolarBear you are welcome, glad it could help!

I have updated the map with all the non-categorical intern spots I could find by perusing the individual program websites. ADEA's PASS and AAOMS didn't have a comprehensive list. I used an asterisk in the program name to denote a program with internships the number available (if the information was accessible) about how many spots the program has in the description.

Excellent map! I wish I had this about a year ago before applying.

Does anyone know if there's a list of programs w/ non-categorical internships available anywhere?...the original link from this thread doesn't exist/work anymore =(
