I got a Chinese fortune cookie today:

"You will receive good news in the mail very soon."

1) I haven't opened a fortune cookie in over 2 years before this.
2) It's been 4 years since I've been awaiting possible good news in the mail.

if you don't get in, do not blame the Chinese

but good luck!👍

Possible flaw in this idea: don't schools normally notify you by phone?

it depends...did you eat the cookie? cause if you don't eat the cookie it doesn't come true

i sent my current school (i transferred) 2 fortunes from fortune cookies that said "your hard work will soon pay off" and "good news will be on its way to you soon" and gave them a short story of where i was when i opened it and made some corny joke about hoping it brought me good fortune and voila... in 🙂!

Good luck! Interestingly enough I had a fortune cookie with a fortune which read "You could make a name for yourself in the field of medicine"

Did your really?

Many notify by phone and then follow up with mail but evidently, one is notifying applicants by way of a fortune cookie.
adcoms getting creative these days?

Let us know when you get the mail. It would pretty awesome if your fortune cookie was right. 🙂

I got the same fortune cookie. A few days later, I got a rejection letter... 🙁

Were you eating at Pei Wei by any chance? There's where I got mine...

haha it would be funny if the chinese word of the day on the back of the slip is "FAIL"

I actually got a fortune cookie that said something like "you will celebrate good news soon" the night before I got my first acceptance. I've been more inclined to believe in fortune cookies these days...

I had one notify me by mail only, another by email, and another by phone. I assumed there was not really a standard, but maybe I was mistaken.

I got a fourtune cookie saying
"don't give up"

Is that good news (you are about to get accepted) or bad news (apply again next year)?

Have you received notification by hand-delivered fortune cookie? I've gotta say, I love this idea! :meanie:

your school should do that next year! at least if you get rejected, you get a cookie to eat

All med schools should use fortune cookie notification systems. For example, invite all finalists to a fortune-cookie party wherein each participant could only choose one. 50% of the cookies have acceptances, and the rest have rejections/waitlists.

Hey, at least it can't be any worse than the interview process.

I got a fortune cookie a week or so before getting accepted that said "Your goal will be reached very soon"...

Additionally, I realized I'd had a UTMB keychain flashlight on my keychain for years a couple days before getting accepted there (without knowing/remembering that I'd put it on years before)...

Although all of that is true, and I did get accepted to UTMB, this process is so crazy / chaotic, it makes even the most rational among us resort to small coincidences and superstitions ... ah well, I hope you get in :luck:

I don't think that fortune cookie was doing it right. Isn't it suppose to tell you your fortune, and not some cliche inspiring quotation? 😛

i live in the chicago-ish area and Rush is off a major highway, so I drive by it every now and then.

At one point I was driving on that highway, and right as I was approaching it, the song "Rush" by Big Audio Dynamite came on the radio. I mean, you don't hear that song every day. I was sure it was a sign . . . then like 2 days later I got my interview invite 🙂

then like a month post-interview, I was tutoring someone in Chicago and drove past Rush again on my way home. They are building this big new hospital. and I looked at this one window on the top floor corner, facing the highway, and thought to myself that if I got in, I'd make it a point to go into that room when the hospital was done being built. and i'd look out at the highway and remember the night i was driving by and thinking about how badly i wanted to go there. Well, when I got home, I checked my email and there was my acceptance 😀 so now when i am there i have to go find that room . . . hopefully it will be one i'm allowed to go into

Congratulations, i too live in the Chicago-ish area and drive by there frequently when going to blackhawks/bulls games. That new construction sure does look nice. Hope you enjoy it!

are you applying this cycle? or later? be sure to apply to Rush. and mentally make promises to the new hospital when you drive by it, like a crazy person.

How would this be any different than what they already do?
