Maybe I'm just doing something wrong, but it feels like I don't get very much out of the re-read days of SN2ed schedule. Would it be a terrible idea to use that day for reviewing notes/flashcards, doing the EK1001 questions, and getting a head start on the second 1/3 of TBR passages? I just feel like that would be time much better spent, but does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Maybe a better question would be, what has everyone else done to get the most out of the re-reading of the chapters?

Do whatever works for you. People get a bit too hung up on following some exact steps without considering if that's the best way for them to study.

I used TBR for bio and o-chem and I never re-read chapters. I took very short notes, about a page per chapter, and read those a couple of times.

What's your feel about the material when you read chapters for the second time? Are there still new things coming up that you don't know or is it mostly stuff that you already know anyway? The more you lean towards to later the less useful these re-reads are.

Same here. It only takes around 10-20 minutes to read my notes and that constitutes my review.

I'm still pretty early in my studies but I think it's great! The combination definitely helps me to fill gaps because EK has some nifty tricks that arent in BR and vice versa. Also EK reads like a summary which is better for reviewing since you previously read the more dense chapter.

To answer your question yes it was a lot of content previously covered but that's the point of re read days - to see the material again. Seeing it in condensed form works out well. Goodluck!

I didn't do them, I think it would be good to watch Chad's Videos on the corresponding subjects on re-read days. Or what I did was basically just skip that day, finish with content review faster and then when I went back and did the second 2/3 of passages I watched Chad's videos beforehand.

I think I've decided to ditch the reread, review my notes instead, and try to spend a lot more time reviewing my 2/3 passages. That is one flaw in the 3 month SN2ed schedule, correcting those passages takes a huge chunk of time that is hard to find in such a busy schedule.

Thats why he recommends not having a busy schedule when doing this study schedule. Its pretty hard to do while taking classes, work, etc.

For reread days, I only reread the sections I was not confident in and spent a lot of my time reviewing the stuff I missed and doing a bunch of EK 1001 questions.

I would suggest review using AAMC content outline during re-read day and reviewing practice passages.

Agreed. Specifically, I like to go to http://mcat-review.org/. Some of you are aware of this site. It's basically like the AAMC outline but filled in concisely.

To address the OP's original question, I personally like re-read (review) days. It depends on how good your memory is. Everybody says concepts and formulas will be drilled in naturally after doing a lot of practice problems and passages. For me, despite doing the HW I will sometimes forget certain equations and concepts a few weeks later. Which is why I like to review my material. Good thing I took good notes on TBR -- that way I don't have to re-read dense chapters.

What I did on re-read days was re-read my notes, usually. I also took about a page of notes per chapter, except for orgo and EK bio,for which I took about 2 pages and 4 pages per chapter respectively. Only for orgo I'd go back to the TBR books for some reference of the reaction mechanisms. I sometimes skimmed the books for PS just to redo a few of the practice problems in the chapters. I'd also play catch-up on those days and finish some passages/chapters.

Do you guys think it would be a good idea to do passages of out tprh science workbook instead of ek1001 discretes on the reread day?

I dont understand the anger over the re-read days.
If you take very concise notes on each chapter when you read for the first time, it is very easy to re-read..

Thats my complaint, its easy to re-read and I feel like I'm not getting very much out of that time.

I like the EK reading idea, I think I'll try that this week.

On reread days I read the corresponding chapter in EK.

This. ^ I bought all of the EK content books to read those on re-read days. Great minds think alike, assuming it works out haha

to those of you who currently re-read EK instead of TBR on re-read days, how is this working out for you? Are you finding that it is faster ? Can you finish everything in one day with EK re-read days? right now there is no way I can finish the TBR re-read days+all the questions and it is putting me behind schedule every week. I need a new strategy, either it is going to be re-read EK subject books or simply try to take good notes and just re-read my own notes.

On my re-read days, I skim through the corresponding chapters and type up the key points from those chapters...that's my way of reviewing without completely re-reading every single word of every chapter.

So I made a list of topics that I'm still week on (my test is in 5 days). Do you think buying individual videos for those individuals topics on Chad's website is a good idea?

I use to only re-read 4 chapter because I felt 5 chapter was too much(slow reader) for one day. Instead I used the downtime to review my notes for the week. Find what works for you and do it. It took my two weeks to work out the kinks of studying for the MCAT
