Hi,
Could you tell me of what type(s) of person a psychiatrist would ask a patient (in A & E/E.R. because of difficult, including suicidal, thoughts) the question 'Do you ever feel like you are on a mission?'?
Thanks.

psychotic (eg schizophrenic) or manic patient. eg, the person may feel like he is on a mission from God, or that he alone can save the world, his family, etc.
These can be psychotic (eg I am on a mission from God to save earth from Satan, who is coming here next week) or manic/grandiose (eg, I am so good with people that I am on a mission to become an amazing psychiatrist that can cure many patients.)
I like that question so much that I'm going to start including it as part of my psychiatric Review of Systems - esp with patients who DON'T seem to have a psychotic disorder . It could pick up a number of things that are otherwise hidden/controlled.
