How do you find out if you matched or not on March 13?

I have heard that you need to log into NRMP but where on the web site will it tell you if you matched or did not match?

TIA

You will get an email at noon EST from the NRMP that says "Congratulations! You matched into a PGY-1 spot....." or an email that say the opposite.

Does it also tell you if you've matched a PGY-2?

Thanks

Yes, if you are applying for an advanced match you will hear about matching to both (but not the location until Thursday).

But if you match into your pgy-2 spot, but not your pgy-1, they will tell you exactly where you matched for your pgy-2 spot on the 13th to allow you to scramble to a pgy-1 spot that would be conveniently loctaed near your pgy-2. I dont know for certain if they tell you your pgy-1 spot if you match pgy-1 but not pgy-2, but I imagine they would do this as well. If you match into both, you dont find out where until the 16th as Kimberli indicated above.

If you match into a pgy1 but not 2, they do not give you any information about where you matched. (I know someone in this exact situation last year... the match was not revealed until official match day)

wow - so there's an advantage to not matching for the pgy-1 year. you find out 3 days earlier! too bad i'm not applying for a specialty with a transitional year 🙂

The NRMP emails you the Monday before Match Day. The email basically says whether you matched or not. That's why some people call this day Black Monday.

I was told by an older and wiser student that if you match into an advanced spot and not a pgy1 they don't tell you where you matched, but you contact your dean and he is allowed to tell you the city you matched in not the program you matched into. Hopefully I won't find out first hand if this is true or not!
