How many of y'all (either this year's app cycle or previously) got an on-the-spot acceptance while you were still at the school for the interview?

If you can remember, plz post the DATE (at least the month) and the SCHOOL at which it happened.

Plz reply with anything you can remember from any school to this effect, AND/OR stories you've heard from your friends about their experiences as well.

Thanks!

That really never happens even though I was given strong indication of "acceptance" during interview. All the best friend!

Thanks Vishal! In that case, I think it would be valuable to ask:

Did anyone get a strong indication of "acceptance" at their interview only to find out later that you were in fact rejected?

I think that if they can't say outright whether you're accepted, then "false positive" indicators would be a very important issue.

Well, this is what happened to one of my interviews:
after the interview, I performed badly and the interviewer said he doesnt have any problem with me. Later I found that I was placed on waitlist. O well. I dont get that faculty memeber anyway.

Perfect3435 can tell you all about this. He didn't get rejected, and still in fact has a good chance of gaining admission, but they've really put him through the wringer after initially indicating that he was an almost no-brainer admissions decision.

Not on the spot, but i had a same day acceptance via email to a school last year. it was waiting for me by the time i got home from the interview.

Back in 95 when I was interviewing, the interviewers at NYU and BU both accepted me on the spot. This was in October of 95 as I recall. I wonder if policies have changed.

One of the three interviewers told me that i have all the qualities of a perfect applicant. Called the school next day...

One of my interviewers told me that I was "Just the sort of person that they were looking for". I got in soon afterward.

At the end of one of my interviews (my interviews were before dec 1st), my interviewer told me that as far as he is concerned, I got in and that he is going to do everything that he can to make sure that I get in. I thought it was kinda weired because I was under the impression that the interview was critical for admission. I guess he saw that I was puzzled cuz he started to expalin to me that there is a committee and everything and that it's not only his decision. anyway, on nov 28th I got a thick envelope from that school 😎

D was that from Penn? BEcuase I interviewed a week before Dec 1st and my interviewer told me he would do everything possible to get me in and it was just up to the gods. Indiana, also before Dec 1st, told me to expect something on Dec 1st.

One of my interviewers told me exactly the same thing. But I didn't get in that school.

Yikes! :wow: It looks like the informal indicators really can't be trusted after all. Thanks for your input, ppl, and keep it coming!

LIKE APHISTIS SAID, I COULD PROBABLY SAY A LOT HERE.,

to make it short,

all the indications (i had impressed them all, and that my interview score was the highest possible) suggested that i was def in. i am glad i didn't cancel any interviews. haven't gotten in there, but i feel that i will soon. hope i am right.

the other interview: was told that he hasn't had someone do such a good interview for the past 10 yrs. he said he was really amazed by me and that he'd right some very good things to the adcom about me so that i get accepted. still waiting to hear from them. should hear any day now.

the other interview: he told me that if it was up to him alone, that i am accepted. he said he'd make sure he does everything he could to get me in. we'll see what happens by the end of this month.

if my experiences, ups and downs, and all the good anticipation doesn't bring out stress then i don't know what does.

bottom line?
you really don't know what to expect. nothing is guaranteed or over until the fat lady has sang. i wanna see things in writing before i feel good.

good luck to everyone who is still waitiing.

my interview went overtime (because we had such a nice conversation) and at the end, my interview told me i was 100% in and that there's no reason why their dental school wouldn't take me.

I received the acceptance a week later in the mail.

hello everyone...

My interview (at buffalo) also went longer than almost everyone else who was there. We had a good conversation but from the very beginning of the interview my interviewers told me that they could in no way give me any hints as to whether or not I had been accepted. At the end of the interview I really had no idea at all what to expect. But then, on December 1st I received my acceptance. Hey...it was a REALLY nice surprise!

I got accepted to UCSF a few hours after I interviewed. I was pretty shocked. Drop dead, couldn't say anything. Hmmm, it was one of the strangest moment in life. I remember at the interview, I was told that they will get back to me within one month. No hint what soever.

Good surprise, though. Much better than waiting for a month, I guess.

Baylor, interviewer says lets just pretend we are having an interview because you are already in so tell me about yourself. UT houston, a big name gives me his card and simply says if I am seriously considering the school that I should email him, first thing the next day, sadly I emailed a no (so why did I go to the interview in the first place, I was probably practicing interpersonal skills for other schools)

Yes, I remember that, Tink!

I was accepted the same day I was interviewed. Crazy and shocking but true. A very happy day.:hardy:

My experiences with Case:

First interviewer: I do really hope you will choose our school next August.

Second interviewer: Did other interviewer tell your anything about your acceptance? 😕 I know it will cost you lots of money to travel for your interview. Be frank, I will give you a chance here at this school. I will give you a high mark on your application. :wow:

Found out about 24 hours later at Arizona.

To the peeps that attained "on-the-spot acceptances":

What were your stats?

Told on the spot at NYU, but I had to keep quiet until the letter arrived.

thats great. how long did it take them to send you that letter?

hey, sxr71
where do you want to be?
USC or NYU?

Back in 2002 application cycle, I was accepted on the spot during my interview at NYUCD by Dr. Weiselberg in March.

About 12 days, but they were waiting on a document they needed from me for about 7 of those days.

I haven't received an acceptance from USC yet, so I don't really know yet.

One thing I realized when comparing NY and LA, that LA may have gotten an unfair representation because the weather was unusually cold during the night those 2 nights I was there.

So I am thinking more and more about LA, where before I was fixated on NY.

Congratulations - so this means you will at-least attend somewhere this Fall.

I heard the words "you'll definitely be hearing from me" at BU last Tuesday, and today I have the letter.

However, I don't think I could have looked at that as more than an indication.

 - Nice!

So will it be NYC or Boston? - either way, you will be in the north-east.

Wanted to bump this one up so it could include interviewees from later in the application cycle. It would be interesting if the trend shifted as time marches on. Just a thought.

Well, I had three interviews; one at NYU, one at BU, and the other at Detroit. I scheduled them so they'd be within a day or two of each other, and drove from Los Angeles to Detroit to NYU to BU. By the time I got back to L.A., I had three acceptance letters waiting, each dated and postmarked on the day the interview took place.

The interview at NYU was particularly amusing. Some excerpts (that I'm surprised I remember pretty much verbatim after repeating them so often):

Int: "So why do you want to be a dentist?"
Me: "Well, I've always been interested in healthcare and medicine. Honestly, I'd previously set my sights on becoming an MD, but not making it into medical school, I thought about alternatives. I went to my dentist to see what it was all about, and I was fascinated. I think I have an aptitude for dentistry, you know, I've a side business where I restore antique musical instruments and clocks and resell them. So I'm very much into the old-world craftsman mentality, and I'm reasonably business-oriented. You know, I can sit here and give you the song-and-dance about how much I want to change the world and help people, but one man can't change the world and if I didn't want to help people, I wouldn't be sitting here now. Bottom line, I guess, it's about lifestyle. I want to raise a family comfortably, and when you get right down to it, it's all about bringing home the bacon.
Int: "So I see you did your undergrad in the NY area. Are you excited about coming back here again? (now what does that tell you, huh?)
Me: "Well, I'm definitely familiar with the area having spent four years here. And it does have a lot to offer, there are so many interesting things here. But I really have my heart set on continuing my studies back in California. So I'm not all that thrilled about having to come back here."
Int: "Well, if you couldn't go to school back there, what would be your first choice?"
Me: "NYU."

if anyone that got an "on the spot acceptance" doesn't mind, could you tell us some of your stats, so we 2005 applicants can get a feel for if we might be able to look forward to it??
Thanks 😀

hehe...

DAT: 21AA, 22PAT
3.0 GPA (science was something like a 2.7!). Brought up to that level by taking a semester of postbac bio courses (neuroanatomy, endocrinology, epithelial phys). The funny thing is that I rushed through undergrad in 3 yrs, only to spend another year doing nothing, scrambling to take the grad courses the next year in a frenzied attempt to undo the damage I'd done to my GPA. When I applied to med school the previous two years, my stats were something like 2.8 GPA and 31 MCAT, for comparison. Why did I even bother, right?

Of the 15-17 schools I applied to, I interviewed at three and was accepted to them.

Moral of the story. Work hard, don't be lazy or complacent. Haste makes waste.

>>>Kicking myself for complaining so much about NYU. How ungrateful! Shame!<<<

My buddy ImpMail got accepted to NYU on-the-spot! I believe she had a 3.2 and 18 DAT 😎. Congrats to her .

Just curious...how about On-the-Spot Rejections, anyone?

haha, i doubt if any admissions officers were just immediately like "yeah how about you go somewhere else buddy... c ya"
interesting proposition though...
any takers?

A classmate of mine from Massachusetts applied to the University of Colorado back in 2000...

One week later, they sent his application materials back to him along with the uncashed check. "Sorry, we only consider applicants from the western regions." There's an instant rejection if I've ever seen one. 😀

at least they didn't string him along, cash the check and then reject him later. I'd be glad they were honest about it up front. :luck:

Yea, no kidding....I lost my $45 to Howard University. It's like this huge hole that sucks money from you...you never see your money again, nor do you get a rejection letter from the school.

🙁

I know this thread is old but for you guys going to interview at NYUCD look for this guy or hope he is your interviewer b/c the same thing happened to me when i interviewed in DEC 2003. I was accepted on the spot and I was so impressed by him and the fact that he took a huge weight of my chest that i decided to go to NYU.

I think I got a rejection letter from Howard a couple of months ago. However, I got an empty envelope from them today! What could they say more, I wonder... I was tempted to call them up and see what I was missing, but decided not to. I know where I'm going this fall, and it ain't Howard.

Were those post-december 1?

They must be because of AADSAS rules, and mine was at AZ.

I know of someone who got a definitive indication (a letter, it might have been) well in advance of 12/1, but of course it can't be official (and I guess it doesn't count until you're holding that magical, fat envelope in your hand).

Thanks! I assumed it must be after Dec. 1 because of AADSAS, but I assumed Gavin had done all of his interviewing prior to Dec. 1, which was made me wonder.
