My friends and I seem to be spending a lot of time talking about how drunk we'll be next Thursday (and virtually every opportunity after that).

Just wondering about everyone's drink of choice....

Mine: Double Johnny Walker Black on the rocks

I too am a Scotch man and used to be a Johnny Walker Black man. If you haven't yet, try a single malt. I recommend most highly Glenfiddich (12 year). I find they have a much smoother taste and better flavor b/c they are not mixed with other types of scotch.

you're right, the Glens (in particular fiddich) are all very good. Just bought a bottle of McCallans 15 which is delish, as is the bottle of Johnny Blue I sip on for VERY special occasions (Match Day?) - blended, but it's smooth as a baby's butt.

My drink of choice is an extremely dirty gin martini, extra olives. I want to see a suspension of salty olive-y goodness

or, since I plan on drinking through the St Pat's holiday, perhaps a black beauty/irish snakebite (1/2 guiness 1/2 hard cider with a shot of raspberry liquor on top) or a few car bombs to celebrate the holiday?

grey goose onda rocks widda lime wedge

on special occasions, i hit this nearby russian owned liquor store who stocks a kick ass polish vodka called zobrovska. soooo smooth. drink it straight and just put the glass on ice so as not to water down the vodka.

Sapphire and tonic, Jameson and ginger, redbull and jager.
More often then not though it's beer. Usually miller lite for mass quanities and the microbrew of my choice for flavor/with meals.

Diet caffeine free mountain dew.

If I'm feeling crazy maybe some red wine (one glass) or a pina colada.

i like to live on the edge.

later

Microbrewed Pale Ale of any kind excluding the botulinum toxin preferably.

My dad bought me a 1.75 L bottle of JW Black Label for my birthday. I still have 1/2 of it left for match day.

i will come clean and admit that in general mojitos do it for me...but i have a giant bottle of fancy champagne to share if i am happy on match day (and to drink all by myself if i am not happy!) 😀

Went to one of the marketing focus groups from a drug company (got paid $250 for my opinion), and ordered grey goose vodka martinis, very dirty, with olives stuffed with blue cheese.

the only way to go!

Bourbon on the rocks- Maker's or Knobb is good, but I still really prefer Jack.

I might lose a man card for this 🙁 , but diet root beer and rum is actually pretty tasty.
CM

Remy Martin or Maker's Mark, neat. A Romeo and Juliet/Churchill adds the perfect touch for those special occasions. 😉

Definitely a beer guy... killian's, blue moon, budweiser select... yummy! 😀

When it's drink time, I like the Redbull and Goose, or the Cherry bomb. 🙂

Oooh, now I'm thirsty 😱

OK, what classic movie is this dialogue from:

Golfer: "Can you make a blue moon?"

Bartender: "Can you make a shoe smell?"

I just realized that this is an ETOH soaked ten days for me.
Here's the Excuse to Drink Schedule I'm in the middle of...
March 6th Friends birthday festivus
March 8th Mine AND my college roomie/best friends bday festivus (I'm still recovering!)
March 10-11th Friend coming in from out of town for the weekend. Great band doing a 2 night stint at the bar 2 blocks away.
March 13th- Celebrate or drown sorrows related to Match day 1 results
March 14th-15 - Potential need to to celebrate if scrambling (Please God NO!)
March 16th- All the cool kids are doing it/ MATCH DAY
March 17th- St Pat's day/ Crappy green dyed beer and car bombs day.

I hope my liver makes it!

Also to add to the discussion. For those of you who have not outgrown shots, what's your poison? Mine are in no particular order:
Jager, SoCo and lime, Mandarin and Cranberry, GM, Tuaca, and ice 101

Ooohh that takes me back...

As for the shots- not many anymore but back in college one of the shot bars next to campus sold a 'mule stomper'- tequila,151, tabasco, and worcestershire sauce (IIRC). It was usually the last shot of the night, no matter how late it was. They also served one called liquid cocaine- don't remember the ingredients, but you took the shot through a straw and inhaled the fumes. I'm pretty sure they stopped serving it.
Otherwise less obnoxious shots were 3wisemen and the water mocasin. Now days any shot seems to ruin my night. :barf:

Now here is a subject I will gladly now discuss

Beer: Newcastle, or black and tan if I long for the mother land

Wine: I love yellowtail shiraz, not that expensive but good

Hard: cant go wrong with a crown and coke

Shot: dirty ashtray (if you have not had it, dont ask)

I use to drink a little
I was not always a med student

Johnny Blue? Now that's some expensive liquor. Isn't that stuff about $175 for a 5th?

I too am partial to single malts (Macallan 18yr and Glenrothes '92 are both excellent), but I learned something interesting a couple years ago about the blended scotch whiskeys. In Scotland the custom when drinking a blend is to add some distilled water before drinking (at room temperature). The idea is that by diluting the scotch your palate can better appreciate the character of the various whiskeys that were blended together.

Macallan 25 yr, 100 yr old Grand Marnier (my boy bought rounds for my Bachelor party), a nice port also does it as does some dessert wine. Also Grey goose and tonic or soda.

Beer.. hmm beer... Anything thats not similar to bud or miller lite.. but my favorite is flying fish, abita turbodog and a few others.

Arthur

Oh yeah I had some Jack Daniels Single barrel once which was delicious.

Here's to page 2 of the booze thread. Salud a todos.

generalveers--have you tried ponzi vino gelato? it is one of my fave ice wines and is only about $20 a pop...i too am a huge fan of the ice wine 😀 also one to try is the king estate vin glace but it is hard to find!!!

Help !! Please rank my top 5

1. Bourbon and Coke
2. Gin and Tonic
3. Jack and Ginger
4. 7&7
5. Meyers and Coke

Or maybe I should start a poll.
JK I think I'll have some of each.
For Graduation I'll go with MD2020.

Mad dog's ok but if ya wanna do it right go for the Sysco. That stuff is embalming fluid!

Nope won't go near it ever since the Sysco Disco party back in college. Bad things happened. Also don't mention Night Train or Thunderbird. Now Wild Irish Rose on the other hand is a delicacy.

wow, night train and thunderbird.... now that is some old school shiznit. My dad still talks about his days with those two.

You've just opened an entire new spin: malt liquor!

I was a Magnum aficianado BITD, once jumped off a two story building into a large bush following three 40s of the kind. Still have the scars to prove it. I think drinking the same now would put me in the HICU (hangover ICU)

Ice wine. For those who haven't had it, you have my sympathies.

Veers, Innskillin? Also I had this dessert wine from Australia which was one of the best I ever had.. Ill have to look up the name..

For MD2020 you just couldnt go wrong with the Orange Jubilee flavor. I have to confess...

*sits down for confessional* Growing up in miami in a rough part of town $$ was always tight.. So pretty much every weekend me and my friends would get MD 2020, and Cisco. We would also pick up the occasional quart (they dont sell 40 oz in Miami or anywhere else in FL). Great times, crazy stories.. When I went to college people looked at me like I was crazy (most of the homies didnt go to college if you get my drift). Anyways I converted them before converting away myself..

*confession over*

Some solid malt liquors.... Schlitz Bulls Ice.. Yumm.. Then my personal favorite.. Colt 45.. but if you were real low on $$$ King Cobra.. Lastly when I moved to NYC (after college) I would occasionally score up some Steel Reserve with college buddies..

Hmm maybe ill pick up some Orange Jubilee for match day!

Celis Pale Bock, back when they made it. Sniff, sniff. I still haven't forgiven Christine Celis from selling out.

I'm a big IPA fan for those kick back times. Black and tan is my pub drink of choice. Shiner Bock for the football games and Miller Lite for those ski-your-ass-off days at the lake when you really just want mildly flavored water.

Take care,
Jeff

A nice IPA if you like big IPAs is the Goose Island IPA.. When I bartended we had ONLY their stuff on tap.. it was a little much for me but other people loved it.

Caddyshack. It was on the other day, and I was thinking how I need to introduce my wife's "little" (230 lb 17yo and 295 lb 16yo) brothers to it.

I like a nice stout.

A fine IPA indeed. I may have to go out and pick up a six-pack just 'cause you mentioned it. Fortunately for me, I have a great liquor store just around the corner from me that stocks a wide selection of wines and beers.

Take care,
Jeff

Up here in the Hinterland you can get an 18 yr Highland Park for $60 / fifth. Nothing compares! 👍

But, for scotch newbies, the Deanston 12 yr is inexpensive and REALLY under-rated. It is a fine spirit!

Now, who else out there actually has the proper glasses for single malt? (Saying a "rocks" glass earns you a smack upside the head). Ridel makes a great one!

A drop of distilled water in a single malt old enough to be legal, a seat in the easy chair, baby in arms and Mozart over vacuum tubes. Could life be any sweeter?

I too am a big IPA fan. Love me some Shiner Bock as well but not the easiest to find in MD and impossible in PA. If were talking 40's I once liked to alternated between OE and Mickey's depending on my mood, ahhh college.
Incidentally if anyone travels the caribbean, the local brew of Dominica, called Kubuli was excellent. I miss it. Sadly they said they can't afford to redo the bottleing and meet the requirments that would allow for US shipping so I must do without.

Inniskillin is good, but it's pretty much the only Niagara ice wine that gets exported to the United States. There are better varieties which cost much less. My family is from that area, so I routinely import 10-20 bottles for myself of varying varieties.

I also have a chocolate-infused ice wine that I'm saving for now.

* recovers from smack on the head...ouch*

Luckily my "rocks" glasses are perfect for the occasional Absinthe...I always spill it when I put it in a martini glass.

Give the man a cigar. 👍 🙂

Cigars.. I have a couple of cubans that will be getting sparked up on Match day!!!

Another perk to the local of my first 2 years of med school. Don't tell anyone but I brought back about 30 cuban CIGARS.

Dude.. dont they usually just come alone on rafts? (sorry i couldnt resist)... Being from miami this is a huge topic..

anyone who puts even a mildly decent scotch in ice should be force-fed rotten, moldy haggis. its a crime people.

scotch - bowmore 15. so good, it'll knock the eyeballs out of a moose

beer - mirror pond or black butte porter (descuttes brewery, oregon)

wine - light, crisp pinot noir. Airlie 1997 is a great bottle
