Hello all -

Curious premed here - but what is the typical path to specializing in oncology and how long does it take? How about subspecialties in the field of oncology? How about oncological surgery?

Any info would be appreciated! Please post or PM me!

Thanks

Medical Oncology = Internal Medicine (3 years) + Hem/Onc Fellowship (2-3 years) [also applies for Pediatric Oncology]

Surgical Oncology = General Surgery (5 years) + Surg Onc Fellowship (2 years)

Radiation Oncology = Prelim/Transitional year (1 year) + Rad Onc (4 years)

Gynecologic Oncology = OB/GYN (4 years) + Gyn Onc Fellowship (2 years)

Neuro-Oncology = Prelim/Transitional year (1) + Neurology (3) + Neuro-Onc Fellowship (1-2 years)
