So I am a chem. E major with Spanish minor, and this is my 3rd semester, and I took only 13 credits because the other classes I wanted to take were in time conflicts. And...I screwed up.

Thermodynamics: Not posted yet, but B maybe
Spanish Conversation(SP 353): A-
Spanish Literature/composition: B+
Cell Biology: C-
Semester GPA: 2.92
Cumulative: 3.49(it was 3.702 before 3rd semester(

Yes, I bummed Cell Biology really bad because this semester I had some severe family issues, and I had motivation problems. Fortunately other classes didn't suffer as much since they were fairly easy to me.

What frustrates me a lot is that Cell Bio is science elective to me, and I actually regret taking it. I am now trying to get it change to Pass/Fail. If I manage to change it to pass/fail(I will get Pass), I will get 3.3 for this semester and 3.59 for cumulative.

Will med school adcoms ask me why I have such bad grade in a light course load? Is it going to be "forgiven" if I do better for next years?

of course it is salvageable... You got one bad grade... I would recommend retaking Cell Biology and continue doing well in your other classes.

Don't sweat one bad grade. As long as you can perform well in the future it won't hold you back.

I appreciate your consoling words, guys. My mom is acting like I can't go to med school anymore(sheesh calm down mom). I feel like I am in high school all over again when it comes to med schools.

For a bit of digression, this is what I don't like about large state schools; at least in our school, 1 professor teaches 200 students in 300 level in each semester, so the quality drops significantly.

Tell your mom that you're an adult and you'll be ok

But she's Asian!!
Anyway, I gotta get my acts together. I m taking Microbiology, Spanish in healthcare, Flow operation, heat operation and metallurgy.

Don't wanna retake Cell Bio becasue our school doesn't allow grade replacement

Update: I got C+ in thermo. Well crap. My cumulative GPA is now down my 3 points , which is 3.4 now

Based on your picture, I can safely say that we went to the same college. If med school is the end goal, I would not suggest having engineering as your major. Unfortunately getting into med school is partially a numbers game, and the engineering department here is notorious for grade deflation (especially for thermo/fluid dynamics). I would switch either to chemistry or biology so that it's a little easier to get your pre-reqs and the grades needed.

Also keep in mind that there is more to the process than your grades. Have you been volunteering around Tuscaloosa? (There's plenty of opportunities through the honors college, like UH 333). Have you gotten involved in any research? (A lot of the biology professors just got their grants, so spots will be open). They are definitely looking for a well rounded applicant, so I wouldn't worry about the "light" course load as long as you are being productive with your time.

I enjoy Chem engineering, so I think I should keep going. Also the partial reason I chose engineering is that the extra scholarship really helps me with paying other school stuff(I have full tuition fortunately). Yes I know it is not the best reason, but hey I m actually doing fine.

Corrected Thermo grade:B-(Professor made a mistake in grading)

I have been focusing on school for now, but for next semester I will try getting volunteer stuff. How did you do it with out wthout Honors college help? I am also currently doing a research with Prof. that I have known since my 1st semester-very interesitng project! It's ok to work on two projects at the same time, right?

You can do two projects if you want, although it's unnecessary, I would focus on other things like volunteering. I know Al's pals is a good one, also working for health hut can work.

You're okay. There are people who have failed a class or two and gotten into med school. Just make sure you bounce back and don't have another semester like that and you should be fine. Also, you're mom (like most parents), has no idea what she's talking about. Nothing wrong with her wanting you to do well, but at this point she should stay out of your career path.

This is an n=1. I had a bad semester mental health wise during my sophomore year. Refused to get help, yada yada. My grades were:
General Physics 2-C (by .18 points)
Honors Orgo 2-C
Orgo 2 Lab-A
Intro to Neuroscience 1-A (prof gave me an A. Did not deserve it)
Cell Bio-B.

The following semester I proceeded to get a C in biochem (MCAT take 1 and best friend diagnosed with brain tumor). My mental health was in order but you know life. Got into a accelerated program for a Masters. Took extra science classes and actually did my accelerated program in 5 years instead of 4 so I could take other "easier" biology electives. During my 4th year, worked 3 part-time jobs, studied for the MCAT and took it halfway through that semester, got 4.0 while taking full graduate course load with undergrad courses, worked 15 hours a week in a research lab, oh and my best friend died from her brain tumor the first week of the semester. Applied this cycle during my 5th year of my program with a 3.6 cGPA and 3.4sGPA with a 3.8 graduate GPA. Still got into two schools. C's won't kill your app but they want a comeback story.

Yes.
