I am a 3rd year med student in New York and would like to get residency/practice as an attending somewhere in the Northeast.

I was wondering what effect doing one blue book clinical rotation (in my case surgery) would have on getting residency / licensure in the Northeast. I am not planning on going into surgery as a profession, and all my other sites for clinical rotations would be green. I have heard that doing a blue book rotation can prevent you getting a license to practice in the Northeastern states, other than the state where you took that rotation.

Could someone please shed some light on this? Thank you so much.

If you go to a US med school, it dosent matter you are fine. If you are foreign grad (Carrib etc.) you need to pay attention to whether or not rotations are green. If the rotation you are doing has a ACGME or AOA accredited residency program attached to it you should be fine getting licensed. If it has neither and you are not a US med student i would not take that rotation.
