at my university, we have 1 day community service days. do dental schools like to see those on app or not? i'm not sure if it's any good because it doesnt show commitment.

or should i look for a semester long program?

in addition, do dental schools care about what you do during winter break? reason i ask is because i usually hang out with family and play with new presents.

one day? bad
one semester? marginally good
several years in the same organization gaining more and more responsibility each year? priceless

find something you enjoy doing and won't seem like work. i taught baltimore city kids how to read and it was a great stress reliever after a long day of orgo, biochem, etc.

I think any kind of community service looks good. A one day service project will still look good just as long as that's not the only service you do. Like Synapse said, you should also find something you can become passionate about to go with all the random service projects you are doing.

All my volunteer time were one day deals but I had a lot of them.

And it worked in a school that really emphasizes that stuff!

You do not need to show that you are commited but you need to be committed at what you are doing. Don't just do something becasue it will look good on apps but do something that you enjoy/want to do and is also good for apps. If you did somthing you liked admission committee will like it. I did very few things in my undergrad but the things I did I truely enjoyed and I wanted to do. I am still involved in them even after my accptance.

I know many undergrads who just do something becasue it will look good on their apps and don't really care about what they are doing or somethimes just are clueless why they are doing. I think this is bad. Do something becasue you want to do not becasue it will look good on your app. Just my thought on this issue.

How many extra-curricular/ volunteer work events can you list on the application?
