Hi this is my first thread so I'm not quite sure if I put this in the right section.

I was looking through application requirements and most schools require just one semester of Biochemistry (which I'm currently taking)

Will taking Biochemistry 2 be unnecessary or a good investment for dental school?
Will one semester of Biochem be sufficient for the DAT?
What is biochemistry like during dental school?

Thanks in advance👍

Taking Biochemistry 2 would probably be a good investment for dental school and may be viewed favorably by adcoms who look through your coursework. I don't think my undergrad even had a second biochem semester, so it is a matter of preference.

Will one semester of Biochem be sufficient for the DAT?

The subject material required for the bio section is so expansive that biochem will only be a small portion, so if I were you, I wouldn't take a second semester of biochem just for the DAT prep.

What is biochemistry like during dental school?

I have no idea. Maybe a current dental student can answer this for you : )

Unless Howard is on your Dental schools list ( they now require 6 credits? Of Biochem), 1 semester of Biochem shoud be more than enough for Both the DAT and the dental schools you'll be applying to.
If taking Biochem 2 woud help fufill your degree requirements at the same time , then I guess why not, it's worth taking it and it's def. a good investment for dental school, and it's a plus on your application (assuming you do well on it). Otherwise, it think it's uncessary, and I would save myself the energy and the $$$$.

This is just based on my opinion since I'm not in dental school yet.
Biochem 2 might be unnecessary if you are not going to end up getting an A. On the other hand, from two different institutions that I've seen, the second part covers more about metabolism and regulation. Guessing that USMLE have similar biochem content to NBDE part 1, many topics covered had to do with Biochem 2 (metabolism and regulation). Having an early exposure might be a good idea.
Biochem is overkill for the DAT. I would invest more time on physiology, cell and molecular biology.
-I have no idea to the last question obviously, better ask at dental forum.
