How bad are the allegations? Are you able to maintain malpractice insurance? Any board actions against your license? Any previous suits?

Many physicians end up getting sued and most keep working, so the odds are generally in your favor.

It will depend on details to some extent but typically an employer just wants to know what happened to see if it was egregious or shows a pattern. Like if this was your 4th lawsuit for the same error (assuming there even was an error ) that’s a hurdle. If this is your only lawsuit it’s unlikely to be a problem. Employers understand doctors get sued. They know lawsuits take several years and you can’t just not change jobs because a lawsuit is in process.

Yes I do have malpractice insurance. No board actions. No previous suits. But the allegations are wrongful death, negligence. Med doses in normal range but pt had sudden death. IM team did not find any problems when asked for consult.
