Hello everyone I have a question about online classes that is concerning me. I tried searching other threads but I couldnt get a definitive answer for DO apps.

I took cal 1 last semester online and im taking cal 2 over the summer at my local university with proctored exams because I also work full-time in the hospital and I couldnt find a class that fit my schedule. The classes are actually harder because you basically teach yourself without lectures.

The transcripts do not say online classes. They look like all the previous classes with the grade. Will this hurt my chances and limit the schools I apply to? Is there even a way for them to find out? Thank you in advance

If they're from a local community college, then you should be fine. If it doesn't say anywhere its online then adcom will never find out.

I took them at a 4-year university. I have heard some ppl talk about having some code or number on the transcript that identifies it as such. Or maybe I'm just paranoid.

I just read some schools say no online classes so I'm a bit concerned.

Paranoia buddy, it happens to all of us so don't worry.

Only time this is an issue if you're applying to your institution's medical school or the school you're applying to somehow knows about it (which in all likelihood it won't since no adcom has enough time to nit-pick through each transcript and Google whether the class number is online or not).

And even then, as said before, no DO school requires Calc and math isn't included in AACOMAs sciGPA.

from what i have read on this forum, you should stay away from taking science classes online. i dont think they would hassle you over calculus classes.

This applies to online colleges or when it shows up on the transcript that you took the class online. My state school has a few online science programs and you can't tell its done online. Students just need to be sure that it doesn't state on their transcript that the classes were done online

Yeah unfortunately my school requires 2 semesters of cal for bio majors so I don't have much of a choice..lol but yeah I'll double check that it doesn't say anything on my transcript about it

If you took stats also that doesn't count toward sci gpa also. Aacomas has a PDF that tells you all courses that count for sci gpa including engineering, it is deep inside the PDF.

Interesting. Do u have a link? Thanks

As long as they're from accredited school, your online classes are OK at my school.
