Greetings. I'm new to SDN. I'd like some general information.

I'm interested in going to med school. Right now, I have a bachelors and a masters in IT, both of which came from a regionally accredited online school.

The first med school I talked to said you must have your prereqs and 90 college credits. They accept CLEP and AP and brick & mortar... but NO online credit at all.

I don't understand this. I certainly understand not being able to do the prereqs as they're lab type work and that doesn't make much sense to do online. However, I don't understand why my IT work doesn't count. This is a field perfect for online schooling in most cases. Is this issue normal among med schools.

I somewhat question the person telling me this too as their communications via email seem slightly uneducated and crude. Should I contact someone else? Will this person I contacted (generically assigned to me as I contacted admissions in general) have influence on preventing my admission if I go around their back to confirm this information?

Thank you for any information you can provide.

There is no uniformity in how med schools view distance learning classes. Some are more open to it. Others are not at all. A contact via calling or email is the only way to find out an individual school's policy, unless there is a relevant statement on their website. I would not hesitate to recontact the mentioned school and ask to speak to someone on the issue. Call all the schools on your most-desirable list and ask.

Look into contacting other schools. This is going to vary widely between schools and as long as your school was accredited and gave you a real degree, I think you'll be able to find somewhere who will accept your credits.

Look at smaller, state schools first. They are typically, but not always, slightly less picky (in my experiences).

I think getting an online degree will bring up red flags, considering many online universities have questionable standards. How are you examined? How do you conduct labs or assignments? Regional accreditation doesn't mean much.
