most EMT-B require field training. I didn't think you could take them online.
EMB would be great for me but I'm not a U.S citizen so I am trying to get in a cource.
Theres pharmacy tech classes online, but you usually have to pay for them. I'm taking an EMT-Basic class right now, and i cant see there being an online class for it. Most of the stuff is hands on, and you cant do that over the internet. Call up your local ambulance company, and ask them where to take an EMT-B class. I'm taking a pharmacy tech class next semester, bu thats mostly for the money through college. EMT-B dont earn very much, pharmacy techs make more then double then an EMT-B. Gl in your searching.
Can you give me some numbers on the comparision between a EMT-B and a Pharmacy Tech

Emt Basics usually make between 7-9$ an hour. It depends what company you work for and if you do mostly transfers or not.
Pharmacy Tech is anywhere from 15-25$ an hour. My local walmart is hiring for 15, walgreens for 18, and at the hospital i intern at 20-22 depending on your interview.
Both count as clinic hours for applying to med school, but you get totally different experiences out of them. Alot of EMT-B is transporting patients from nursing homes to the hospital and vise versa. It mostly depends on your area, but through the week EMT's here dont see very much trauma through the week.
Another thing you have to consider is job hours. Emt Shifts are 12 hours long. Arcadian ambulance is the major company in Louisiana, and they have 2 shifts. 7am-7pm and 7pm-7am. Having 12 hour long work shifts will probably interfere with your schedule. On the other hand you can study on the ambulance when there's down time, and that amount will differ any day. You have more options with your shifts as a pharmacy tech.
Oh btw Emt class is extremely easy lol.

This is kind of a half-truth. You can make that kind of money as a tech, but it requires experience and national certification (which either requires experience - pharm school or on-the-job - or a hell of a lot of studying). Most hospitals won't hire you if you aren't nationally certified, and I don't believe Walgreens will, either. I don't know about Target or Wal-Mart or the others. CVS will hire you without certification or any prior experience as long as you have the appropriate licensure from your board of pharmacy.
If you're nationally certified, you can count on making at least $15 an hour somewhere. If not, you'll probably start around $9 or so. If you work crappy shifts and are willing to "float," you can jack that up into the $20 range.

That sounds about right. They only offer certification twice a year, too.
Not true. I work on the 911 BLS trucks and make 19$/hr. Again, it depends where you work. As far as an EMT-B course online: it does not exsist, at least not at accredited academy's in the USA. EMT-B would be a good step in the healthcare feild if your interested.

Working an overnight shift didn't interfere with my schedule - you just have to suck it up the next day. I also worked a lot of 18-24 hour shifts, usually on Saturday or Sunday. I hated the idea of working from 4-10pm, four days a week, when I could just bang it all out at once. Besides, how many cool stories will you get from being a pharmacy tech?
Eh...I actually knew about half of the pharm on our M2's last test just from experience. I was the weird kid that sat and read product information while we were slow, though. Still, I maintain that it helps a lot.

Wouldn't have helped me. Our pharm exams were horrific. 10-20 pages of short answer/notshort essays.
edit - besides, most pharmacies aren't prescribing chemo drugs or all the obscure antibiotics that PhDs love to test you on, but aren't ever actually used. An outpatient pharmacy isn't going to use anything that's an IV med either.

True, but you could work in a hospital if chemo and IV's are your bag. I did say half the pharm, you know. 😛
I made $9 an hour the whole time because my trainer was useless and kept "forgetting" to sign me up for the test which is only offered twice a year. I would've been up to $15 with frequent raises with certification.
$19/hr?! I worked at a 911 company and we worked 12 hours a day 3-4 shifts a week and make $8.25 an hour. We also could not leave the ambulance, so we slept in the rig and we had no pagers so we had to rotate who went to sleep. If you can, I would highly recommend seeing if your local hospital permit EMTs as ER-techs without prior experience. Usually, they require 6-12months in field experience, however, I've heard of many states that hire emts off the bat since they are short staffed. ER techs make between $14-20 an hour and work about the same hours as any emt and you get the most amount of exposure you can get as a high school or undergraduate student.

Work in a bad part of town. I guarantee you'll have more craziness than you know what to do with. I'm sure it's not as intense as being an EMT, but you'll still get more than your share of weirdness.

For better or worse, I have no formal training. As I understand it (have a few friends who do the job), a company will train you on the job. The certification just helps you get in the door.
For the test, I memorized the 200 Most Common Generic Drugs (and brand name equivalents), reviewed common unit conversions, and learned pharm tech match.
It's all pretty simple. I passed the test first try.
I studied from the book "Certification Review for Pharmacy Technicians" by Noah Reifman. That was it. No course or school!
I got my certification as a PharmTech because I thought it would be an easy certification to land me a decent-paying part time job.

I did my first EMT-Basic shift last night from 7pm to 7am. It was pretty cool if not tiring. It was crazyness, but it was interesting at the same time. It seems like it will be a cool job to have, and it definitely gives you a feel for a career in medicine.
